The fitting triangle, it's far too often ignored and overlooked, but it's a VERY complex topic. We can use it here though, and find a way to shift the balance and remove the weight from the ears or the nose! Let's talk about it and move some things around!

I don't get it...I have brand new titanium frames that are made in Japan with 1.74 high index lenses (prescription is -5.0) and it feels like the weight is mostly on my nosepads--almost like my face is working against the frame instead of the frame resting on my face. Are my lenses making my glasses front loaded? 1. Frames aren't touching my face and they don't cover my eyebrows 2. Vision wise there are no problems

This is actually extremely common with high index and average titanium frames. They aren’t designed for ergonomic balance and inc heavier rx lenses are mounted all of the weight of the entire frame is resting hard on the nose.

I got a new pair last week that’s heavy on my nose, also snug behind the ears, they’re plastic frame, I’m guessing I need to go back to the optometrist to adjust it hopefully they can. At first I was thinking maybe cuz I got Asian fit and the nose part is taller and more pointy?? But I think it’s more so to do with the snugness behind the ears

Tough to say without seeing it, but yes if it’s bent too soon behind the ears it will absolutely throw off the balance and wear heavy on the nose, also typically will cause the frame to slip as well.

Hi. I have a strong prescription. They hurt at the top of the ears. If I adjust so they don't hurt at the ears they slide down my nose.

The steps in this video will help, but also getting the bend placed perfectly behind the ears and following the curve of the skull inward is exceptionally important on higher prescription powers (especially plus power).

If your glasses are putting a lot of pressure on your nose but they're plastic with no adjustable nose pads, do you want to bend behind the ears more or release it a bit to take pressure off?
@ThatGlassesGuy03
@ThatGlassesGuy03 Жыл бұрын
Lots of variables but the bare bones “this might work” is by adding retroscopic tilt to move the balance of the frame backwards. (Temple tips need to go up for this). Could also be several other things or underlying problems with the fit.

I have another question..before I got my new glasses I tried the frame at the optometrist office and it looked great: but once they added the my prescribed lenses, my glasses felt heavier and look uhhh uglier lol is that normal??? I am comparing photos of when I tried frame with plain lenses and vs my prescribed lenses and glasses look much bigger now…
@ThatGlassesGuy03

The power of the lenses if not properly accounted for and managed can absolutely do that. Especially for moderate and above power. Of course it can also be the angle and how close you’re holding the camera. Of course, you can see the glasses more clearly too, so there’s that. 😅

I have a ray bans frame that's metal with rubbery temple ends with a wire/rod inside so it's fairly easy to adjust. But I don't know if I should be adjusting the nose pads or the back to balance it out a bit? I've been to the store I got them at 5 times and they never get it right... One worker even snapped the ends and I had to have the whole arm replaced. Any tips on how I can balance this? It's quite heavy on my nose.
@ThatGlassesGuy03
@ThatGlassesGuy03 Жыл бұрын
That should be done at the tips. Essentially you raise the ends up which shifts the balance to the back of the frame more. Don’t overdo it, and of course this should be done along with properly adjusted nose pads as well. If there’s no room left to raise the rear you can also drop the front by spreading the nose pads for the same effect.

Do you generally recommend metal glasses with nose piece or plastic frames without nose piece for high prescriptions?
@ThatGlassesGuy03
@ThatGlassesGuy03 Ай бұрын
Really depends on overall facial structure and fit. Centration and small lens size are key but can easily be done in either metal or plastic. Add to that plastics can have adjustable nose pads added if needed and it’s a whole other ball game.
@Tyler-Wiley
@Tyler-Wiley Ай бұрын
It all depends on the person, some people don't have nose bridges and need metal nosepads to conform to their face. If you have a high prescription, just remember that the bigger the frame, the thicker the lense. I would suggest a small frame and high index 1.67 or 1.74 depending on which is available.

my glasses leave red spots on my nose i wear good ones and cheap ones for work safety glasses with a hard hat on in the winter with a warm hat worn underneath yea they kinda put extra un needed pressure on it too which only makes things worse and annoying but what can i do about it? I don't know. Open it up just a hair. speaking of hair my mother cut hair since she was in the 3rd grade and she did it all or most of her life. I shoulda learned how ta do that then i woodn't be wearin' this here dagg on Hard Hat.
@ThatGlassesGuy03
@ThatGlassesGuy03 Жыл бұрын
opening them up won't really help and can actually make it worse *UNLESS it's the hate creating the issue, by riding heavy on the glasses and creating more pressure on the nose. Effectively all widening the nose pads apart does is lowers the frame, so if that keeps the hate from riding heavy on it and adding pressure to the nose, bingo. If not, it's more of an overall fit and balance problem, that's where this video comes into play. It's a lot to absorb but can be a very simple adjustment once you understand :)

Hi I have another q…I been wearing my new glasses for a month and I thought they were uncomfortable but also I don’t see clear with them. However I got my prescription done at one place then got frame and lenses at a second place. I went back to the place where I got the prescription and apparently they made a mistake in my prescription. I was wondering for this type of scenario, is it possible to demand the 1st place to replace my lenses for free? The 2nd place who actually made my lenses said they can’t do anything since they didn’t make any mistake in making the lenses with the prescription I gave them

It’s rather unusual except for the most extreme budget places to not offer an rx change lens remake, personally I’ve never been fond of being responsible for someone else’s errors, but that’s the name of the game on this industry. It’s a bad middle spot to be in, because I feel for the shop that made and produced eyewear correctly to a wrong rx, and feel the original shop should be responsible. But when I’m the one on the tail end, I make it right on the lenses one time. If a doctor butchers it twice………. And it has happened. Somebody is paying something. I actually have one doctor in town I won’t take an rx from without verifying it myself first. 🥶😂

Wait these were bought with insurance too? Almost all vision policies have a remake clause…. Unless this was an out of network benefit (different ball game). Good luck though, it’s not a good spot to be in :(

How To Make Glasses Fit! No More Glasses Problems. Loose, Slipping, Crooked, We're Gonna Talk! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pdR7i9Vhzb-WlKM.html Good catch all video for that. The canned version is, the bend for the ears is in the wrong place (too far forward) if it’s heavy on the top of the ear. If it’s just “tight” or “pressure” in that area is when it’s a balance issue, usually balance issues present on the frame front at the nose though and certainly wouldn’t be my first check in that case :)

@@ThatGlassesGuy03 my glasses where the ears go are bent pretty inwards already. Are you saying it needs to be bent back like it was before?
@ThatGlassesGuy03
@ThatGlassesGuy03 8 ай бұрын
The downward bend placement is what I’m speaking of. Inward too far would hurt more behind the ears and feel like pressure and pain.
