I love MeatEater and have since I discovered it way back in 2015 or so. I have always felt like it gave a voice to the type of hunting I have dedicated my life to. MeatEater used to be a spot to get intellectual perspectives on the great outdoors and pushed to develop a more complex relationship with nature. The podcast guests delving into history, biology, and theory were so thought provoking and inspiring in a sea of commercialized “bro hunting” media. PLEASE GET BACK TO THE ROOTS OF MEATEATER. The past year of MeatEater has leaned towards the type of media that MeatEater strives so hard to stand out against. A lot of today’s hunting media is geared towards a demographic who treats it more like a golf game than a way of life. A culture of putting more effort into selecting your gear than hunting. A culture of cutting every corner to make hunting not much more than shooting pen raised animals. I beg of you, please retreat to the way you started the MeatEater universe so many years ago. An outlet to showcase the beauty of our wild places, the versatility of the bounty of protein provided when successful, and the respect given to a carefully managed wildlife program that makes the US so unique.

It’s disappointing that our first real introduction to Katie was with these random nobodies. I understand a podcast to fill a niche or for a special host like Clay Newcomb. But, I’m serious, what niche does this new podcast fill? Is there some kind of educational value? These guys just seem like some random music guys that hunt sometimes. So great, we get to hear stories about how this guy likes to buy land over trucks? This has to be a joke.

I'm so glad Steve mentioned the buy out happening in the Great Bear Rainforest! The company involved is obligated to allocate tags each year and responded to inquiry that; the hunters buying the tags simply weren't very good and hadn't killed anything in the area". This company recently bought aditional rights and now holds exclusive hunting access to over 56'000 square kilometers in BC.

To be fair it looks like they have also done good work in supporting the rehabilitation of habitat and fisheries, this is one of those where they clearly misunderstand the way hunters think and act

57:52 if you feel bad, next time you are planning on doing work on your property, invite him to help out and afterward tell him "hey if you want to take *insert family member* out hunting, let me know as soon as you have an idea and we'll work something out". My parents have a neighbor who owns about 50 acres in town and several hundred more a few hours away. He takes underprivileged kids hunting and his family hunts it. He also let's me and my dad hunt whenever we want because we'll help out with projects around the property. The only other thing he asks is that we ask, and he'll usually say something like "Sure thing, but don't hunt this area because I'm letting it rest for a kid I'm taking hunting next week".

Just couldn't get into this one. Missed the mark. There are so many epic legendary hunters up here in Canada and around the world that are so much more interesting than these folks. Not sure why Meateater is so American-centric. Guests like this are nothing out of the ordinary, just average hunters having average hunting conversations, which to me is plain dull and boring compared to some of the amazing storytellers out there. Gonna skip the rest, gave this one two attempts but just flat out a dud.

I live out on 150 acres, and I do the same things year around no matter what time it is. And I have had big bucks walk within feet of my house. For a long time, I would wear camo and put on cover scents and do everything that hunters will do to hunt, and the deer would disappear. Since I changed my habits, the deer are always around.

Sad to listen to these ppl’s perspective on letting others hunt their land. A deer is more valuable than a friendship? Life and our blessings in it are better when shared. I don’t understand the big dude’s “Christian” perspective of “mine mine mine.” There’s no way that Jesus owns land and then prohibits his friends from hunting it…!

Haters always miss the exact same things, because they’re inherently selfish. The reason Steve is doing this, is the same reason he’s getting guys their own hunting gigs on film, he’s creating opportunity for people, because of his success. It’s selfless spreading of the wealth and just because you don’t like every single opportunity he creates for someone else doesn’t mean you’re right about this, not “being it.” Grow a little.

Glad I listened/watched the podcast anyway after reading so much negativity. There is some good stuff in here if you take the time to listen for it. How myopic would you like this product to be? After all, Steve Rinella is a man of many talents and interests. Why shouldn't his guests be the same? Based on some of the comments, I was expected to hear a fire and brimstone, old fashioned, revival meeting style sermon about religion. Have you never heard the expression "God's Country" used to refer to a place of remarkable beauty or idyllic setting? No one was trying to cram religion down anyone's throat. Lighten the hell up and open your perspective.
