I had to wait ALL Day yesterday for the kiln to cool enough and then it was game time on Super Bowl Sunday, so I thought I should wait until Monday...So here I am, ready and eagerly waiting to open this Glaze Kiln load! But 'm waiting for YOU!! I hope you will join me and if you do, please say ‘Hello’ in the chat!! It's a PARTY in the CHAT...I just LOVE this Pottery Community that is growing so don't be shy!
If you are new to my channel, I do a variety of POTTERY VIDEOS; Glaze With Me, How To…Throw, Organize, Trim, add Details and other around the studio essentials. I love sharing what I’m doing in my HOME POTTERY STUDIO. Yep, I work out of my basement pottery studio and my CERAMIC KILN aka Seraphina, are in my garage. So Kiln Opening Videos, depending on the weather, I can be found bundled up in a tuque, scarf and parka…or tank top and shorts. Haha, weather in Canada, eh?
I’ve got some new CERAMIC GLAZE COMBOS and some new GLAZE LAYERING TECHNIQUES that I haven’t even tested yet so I’m a bit anxious to get inside and see how they worked out. Cross your fingers for me please!!

What a great idea giving your kiln a name.

Hi Fiona! I can't take credit for it, I leaned from YT that a fair number of people do it....so when I upgraded from my older manual kiln sitter kiln to Seraphina, I asked my YT community for suggestions...and Seraphina was the winner! I'm hoping that naming her will guarantee that I have good firings 🤞🏼🤭

Hey hunni! Oh darn I missed your live!! Supernova little tips I’m no expert yet but it’s better with no texture and no liner glaze and cooler is better. My last unload and short the vase was cone 5.5. Can’t wait to test it w underglaze under it for colour! Good luck can’t wait to see your results! Beautiful unload as always. Nat xx

I saw you were very busy with your own videos!! I just watched your bubble glaze tutorial! Great job! I think I have to make some ornamental pieces so that I can use the Supernova as most of my work needs a liner, but you have given me some ideas! Thanks! xo

I'm so glad I managed to tune in about half way through into your live video. I said slump and up molds spell check changed it from hump as I must have had a typo. Embarrassing plus Grammer was missing too. It's super hot here today a storm is rolling in. Top temp is 32 °Celsius. Sweating from doing absolutely nothing except sitting and typing, it's too hot and winter is so cold. No snow unlike in Canada. But we will get the odd snowfall every so often and frost. Take care. PS I laugh when you say things like I do. EG: Gorg instead of gorgeous there are a few others lol.😅

I’m loving all the blue and green glazes but of course the pinks and purples are my favorite!! I absolutely love your “finger bowl”!!! What an awesome idea for texture!! I will be ordering from pottery supply house as soon as it’s warm enough that they don’t freeze! So a little tip for fitting the oil and soap toppers inside is to have one by your wheel, put the piece into the top so it goes in to the largest part of the stopper. Then once it’s fired and you put glaze on it will fit into the middle of the stopper!! Soo much easier than measuring. I soo enjoy your videos. You’re always so chipper and just all around fun gal!! And omg I love your hanging chair!! And how awesome of Great White Pottery to send you such amazing goodies!!!!

Thank you for the shoutout Sarah! Working on more combos to be revealed tomorrow😊 I am going to have to get some of that delicious purple haze. Will have to order from Pottery Supplies and have it sent to my son in London Ont. Not sure when I will be in Canada next visit. Love your kiln openings🩷 I only fire to cone 5-5.5, so maybe your Kiln is too hot for the RHC? Love to you sweetie🩷🩷

Thanks for the heads up about the temp...I may try using less of the HRC, as I was thinking about it and I got the effect that I was looking for on the handle of the oil bottle and I was cautious bcuz it was the handle and I didn't use as much. I have some mugs that need glaze so I will experiment with it...I really appreciate you sharing your technique with me...now with everyone! 🤭 Love this sharing community! xo

Great kiln load Sarah! I'm glad your measurements worked out, however, with larger pieces your formula may run into issues. When measuring shrink rates, you have to measure from the larger number. Example, 100 mm wet with a 12% shrink rate will end up as 88 mm. If you take 12% of 88 and add back the results you get 98.56 mm, as 12% of 88 mm is 10.56. On small pieces the difference is minuscule but on larger things, like casserole lids, etc., it will cause issues. Love those bowls on the bottom shelf! The whole load is beautiful, but I think the bowls are the star of the load. Sorry I missed the live. It's a hectic time of year for me! Hopefully I'll catch the next one! p.s. I love the haircut!

Hi Lori! I can feel your excitement!! I'm soooo pleased that they came to you quickly too!! let me know how you do with them! You can DM me on IG and send pics if you like! I find that the PSH glazes do best on white or light clay to really achieve the max colour payoff. Sometimes on darker clay the glaze doesn't show as richly. Your are going to love all those Spectrum glazes too! I've been having soo much fun with them...I just bought some new ones too!

You owe it to yourself to try alumina bead rods, they are fantastic, don't bend!. Also, I've seen people wax their stilts, by some weird science they don't appear to sink into the glaze as deeply as unwaxed.
@SarahWaltonPottery
@SarahWaltonPottery 5 ай бұрын
Yesss I tried the wax on the stilts and it does work! Someone sent me a link to Shelby's video and someone had sent her the suggestion and she had success, so I tried it too...and surprise, surprise...it worked...I did find if the glaze is really thick, it doesn't work, but it really is 'weird science' ...must confuse the kiln gods...🤣

Love your artwork and videos. Do you know of a good hot pink glaze or bright pink? I wish there were brighter colors in pottery
@SarahWaltonPottery
@SarahWaltonPottery 5 ай бұрын
Thank you!! I know it can be hard to find glazes sometimes. Fairy Rose is a bright pink on white clay...it's not neon but it's a bright pink. Check out my IG (link in my bio) as I have some pieces where it is used as a base glaze, I've added some flux glaze on top which gives some softer pink shade, but look at the bottom of the piece for an example of the pink. Also, I've recently purchased Hot Pink Underglaze from Spectrum, which is a pretty bright pink, warm base, not violet based. Hope this makes sense.
