#pottery #amaco #review
hello you Potters how are you today, as requested we are reviewing the amaco glaze c-10 from the Celadon line.
a few of you have left a comment asking me to review this glaze so we got ourselves a bottle and tested it on a couple different clay bodies.
I will say that this seems more of an additive glaze and that you can add it to other stuff but by itself it's just a white glaze that gives off no hints of a traditional Celadon.
sooner or later we will be doing a video on mixing glazes from amaco.

Question, do you pour glaze back to original bottle if you have left over? Or does that contaminate? Still trying to figure out pouring on a small scale.edit: and c-10= fugly
@EarthNationCeramics
@EarthNationCeramics 3 жыл бұрын
Yes I do and no it does not contaminate it. In fact many times I will add a little bit of water to the glaze to get the rest back in the bottle but I only do this after recording so that it doesn't change the results of the review

The magic of snow is when it's used over other glazes... there are several awesome combos I've done with snow. I would have loved to see the combo with your green!

So a little extra info. Amaco's Celadon series is all made with the same base, so you can mix them like paint to change the color. I wish your textured test pot was red clay, because I bet you would have been able to see the white glaze break over the texture on a darker clay. I mean of course you can't see white celadon's transparency over a white surface.

yeah going to say in the close up it looks like there is 2 different whites fading in and out of each other. idk nothing about glazes but that's just what I'm seeing with my eyes on the vid. but seeing through a vid over looking at it irl is always different though. but would be nice to see that same cup but brown clay then throw that glaze on it. I mean the brown bowls didn't really show that at the edges but its also might just be a stop and could of dried thick at the edges to hid it idk. always best to test out everything because science. lol

Thinned out Snow on speckled clay has been my go-to ... I am in a rut and I love my rut. My rut is like home, a hug, and a mug of hot chocolate. Thin with distilled water. Sometimes after the glaze has dried I brush off a very small amount of powder from the raised surfaces to bring out a small amount of raw-ware (exterior only). Go SNOW ON SPECKLED CLAY! (shhhh, Snow combines great with Cosmic Tea Dust at cone 6)

I would love to see a video exploring the layering. Specifically I would like to see some glaze combinations that make runny/drippy lines at Cone 6.

Nice and thanks for these tests. May be interesting to see this over dark underglaze or oxide to see actual opacity. I think you’ll also see some darks come through with a completely textured and glazed dark body and vary the thickness of the glaze. Your dark tests were interesting but they only show a thick application.

I would also love to know more about Cone 6 glazes that create non-uniform interest - like crystal glazes, lava glazes, etc. I specifically like Cone 6 because it is more than Low Fire but not as hard to reach as High Fire.

I use snow a lot and it mixes very well with other glazes, Celedon and not, but you are correct that ii is far more opaque than the rest of the Celedon line. It’s great on a pepper clay.

It's a great additive , but call call this glaze a celadon all on its own would be..... False to an extent. It seems to work well with other glazes tho.

Try putting snow on top of other glazes. I use it over Palladium and over Ancient Copper. It looks great over Red Firebrick. I’ve never put it on as first layer. Always as a top layer. It make beautiful runs and spotting effects with 2-3 coats of it.

I think the textured mug does show a difference in color along the edges of the carving. I think i see more translucency there. Also, my take is that this is definitely super white….but it is more opaque than the other celadons and i believe that is part if it’s job - to mix with other (amaco) celadons to make them opaque-ish or pastel. Mixing clear is part of the line for similar reasons. Just my 2 cents. Love the videos as always!

@Earth Nation Ceramics If you wanted to retain the white of a white clay (say...B Mix 5 ) would you prefer a clear glaze, or C-10 Snow?
@EarthNationCeramics
@EarthNationCeramics 3 жыл бұрын
Retain is a strong word. Alot of "white " clays end up being off white or high grey. If the clay body is truly white, probably a clear glaze. Is I wanted to make a clay super white with a glaze, snow probably.

Yeah Snow is not a Celadon. Lovely white glaze though. I’d like to see you try one of those new ones….the Copper Red and Flambé. They’ve been a huge disappointment between what Amaco’s tests look like and my results.

We use a lot of Amaco glazes where I work. Most of what I work in is flat though so I feel like. You're missing something for me and not doing a flat piece. I do kind of a 2d tile work I'm currently starting to work on my own and beadwork. And the one thing that I have found is all the rules that they tell you most of them you can break.

It may not show it's celadon tendencies on a white clay body. Like a white rabbit on a snow field. Maybe test what happens if you put a solid coat of the Snow over a highly textured brown or black clay body? I bet you a wink and a smile that it will break over the high spots and show off it's sexy clay body.🤭
