Take a look at the, "Duet," two reed Vargan by Glazyrin. Look and listen to this unique and peculiar harp with dual reeds. Get weird with your harping. Harp can be found at link www.theharpery.com/glazyrin/

Your playing on the second harp, with the two reeds a tone apart, reminds me a lot of aphex twin -fenix funk ! The track is made using purely analog electronic instruments, so it's really interesting to hear that RDJ (aphex) is (intentionally or not) approximating a sound so ancient and unique. Anyway, I found it an exciting musical moment, so thanks and great playing as always.

Traditional lubu, bamboo jew harps made by the Tayal tribe in Taiwan, come in 1, 2, and 4 tongues.

Very cool. Good to know. Have you played one?

Lubuw is made by the Atayal tribe in Taiwan. Lubu is made by the Sediq tribe in Taiwan. These are aboriginal native tribes of Taiwan. Both are made of bamboo and very similar. The sound is lovely, woodsy and softer, not strident like the metal harps. Thanks for bringing this up. I looked them up and added these names to my growing list of mouth harps from around the world.

I just got my duet today, a two toned with different reed length, it's really a getting used to. lol My favorite is my little Sail from Glazyrin also. I do have some Khou Xian and Dan Moi (and a Potkin but meh) that are quite easy to play.
@bebbcorpharpery73316 жыл бұрын
It does require some adjustment to be able to play. The sail is very melodious.

If you can get good on a bad harp when you play a good the world is yors

the intervals of the reeds would be best with perfect fifth apart ( could potentially produce major third harmonic above the fifth when the two played together ) other interesting intervals would be in "JUST INTONATION" major and major thirds and should play louder without "beating", that may be what you describe as weird. Equal tempered intervals probably do not do justice to having more reeds on the harp. great video, thanks.

Would there be anything to trying to play them alternatingly with pointer and middle fingers for a fast tempo?
@bebbcorpharpery73316 жыл бұрын
Yes you could.

Wait a second, is that a new board? Not bad, but also not enough harps.

Does it prohibit fast playing or any special techniques?
@bebbcorpharpery73314 жыл бұрын
This style of harp may not be well suited to fast double play.
@M620sound4 жыл бұрын
Since it makes you open your mouth taller, does that make it less sensitive to breath or limit its range? I also wonder about fast single play, maybe by muting the unused reed for safety (like a guitarist might mute unused strings for clean playing).

It’s wide mouth is preventative to many things.

so tell me... I have a couple. one is a toy. one is a decent one. cant remember the name of it but it comes with wood case. and you have it ! I can make some interesting sounds with it. and loud. I want to know, is a glazyrin about the best harp one can get ? I want a really good quality instrument .
@bebbcorpharpery73316 жыл бұрын
There are a ton of great harps out there. Glazyrin are popular because they are of great quality, come in a variety of sounds and price ranges, and are widely available and are very decently priced for the harp you get. Message me on my store and a have a variety of harps for you to choose from and I can make comparison videos for you as well over messenger. My store is, “The Harpery,” on FB.

I have a Glazyrin Rainbow. It's very interesting. It's got a very particular sound. If you want a harp that is going to last a long time, go for a Glazyrin. It's not that they're the best--it's just that they have a wide variety of sounds, and designs, and each one of crafted with top notch quality. My Glazyrin Rainbow is my everyday harp. Keep in mind some people don't like the sound of the Rainbow, so choose wisely my friend. Also keep in mind if you have never played this sort of long, very very thin harp before, they are a bit different. You can't hit them as hard, and they will be extremely loud. The main difference for me, is that I had to relearn mouth and tongue positions to hit certain overtone notes. Turns out they're completely different positions than the traditional morchang looking harps. Choose what you like, and hit up Harpery. :)

Also the Cnc wood cases that you can get for them are perfect for throwing in a pocket. I just got a bunch in and now I bring my alpha to work with me everyday.

Hmm. it seems it is not comfy to play.. I think the double-tongue dan moi is a good alternative?
@bebbcorpharpery73316 жыл бұрын
It is definitely an adjustment. I like it quite a bit, but it is not an everyday player. With the sheer amount of harps that I have no harp is an everyday player anymore. I have a few go to harps that change ever couple days.
@HexDiesis6 жыл бұрын
Harps advertised as double-tongue dan moi generally have one reed that forks into two points, rather than two separate functional reeds. Compared with a regualr dan moi they tend to be a little more durable and have a very slightly nicer tone, but they are played exactly the same, and I couldn't tell the difference without looking. A better alternative would be to get a few Chinese Kou Xians, which are similar to Dan mois, but flatter and rounder. You often find them being sold in sets of three, designed to be played simultaioniusly. :)

I have had the khou xian and I just never liked playing them.
@HexDiesis6 жыл бұрын
Agreed, they are a fun novelty, but not great for serious harpin. You can get them ridiculously cheap though, so worth a try in my opinion.
@bebbcorpharpery73316 жыл бұрын
Agreed but nadishana can absolutely slay on the khou xian. I think the duet is a serious harp, and I have seen people play them who are very skilled at it and they sound awesome. For me right now I just don’t play it enough and I don’t have the skill on one yet.
