i actually HATE this episode, not because it was bad but because in my 5th grade there was a variety show and i chose to do this song which i ended up singing horribly like Rachel this is just too painful for me.

There's something about the way that this scene shatters the self-contained reality of the show where all of these untrained high school students have stellar voices (I mean, if we ignore the fact that most were heavily manipulated during the show's run). They lampshade this in the later seasons where everyone in New York is like, "Wait, all of you were in the same Show Choir and you ALL THE SOUND LIKE THIS WTF?" but this scene just clinches it for me. It's kind of like that scene in Pleasantville where the basketball team suddenly sucks and everyone is like, "wtf our universe is burning down."

I feel bad for her, yes I may not like Rachel very much in fact I slightly hate her. But having this happen to you when you've get a powerful voice, it can make your self esteem go down. Plus sometimes getting tonsillitis can damage your voice and you won't be able to sing again. But this was funny and I actually don't feel bad for laughing, Rachel has a very nice voice though. But that's the only thing I actually like about her.

What’s funny is as a singer this is NOT what it would sound like to have your voice lost 💀 she’s singing in a different key and using notes outside of the song. This is signs of an inexperienced musician not someone with their voice lost. If her voice was lost it would be pitchy and flat especially on hard notes and probably cracky
