This is when Mr Shue handed solo or role to Rachel. Knowing she would do this if she didn’t get what she wanted, he couldn’t lose his “best singer” (which in my eyes she wasn’t) Rachel needs to understand that she’s going to go an audition and not get picked someday

Her talent was not the point. She's had every solo in the club and someone else needed a turn and she just didn't want to allow it. Rachel is talented, but why does she have to hurt them to make HER feel good? That's what was really unfair

I have mixed feelings about Rachel because I'll admit I sometimes see qualities in her that I have myself. I can be selfish too but I dont agree with her always getting solos regardless of how much talent she has. They do baby her and let her get away with a lot and it makes you feel bad for the other members of New Directions because they're always swaying in the background. And she's not always a good girlfriend/friend in general. But what you gotta realize is that she's still human. Insecurity is a hard thing to get past because sometimes it can make you do terrible things. I'm not saying it's an excuse but it is a very human thing and whether people choose to admit it everyone goes through it. It also makes people crave attention. I admire Rachel's talent and I understand her struggle sometimes but I dont agree with her methods.

When Jesse St James returned to Glee in season 2, I thought it would go something like this from 'All About Eve' (1950): "That I should want you at all suddenly strikes me as the height of improbability, but that, in itself, is probably the reason. You're an improbable person, Eve, and so am I. We have that in common. Also a contempt for humanity, an inability to love and be loved, insatiable ambition - and talent. We deserve each other...and you realize and you agree how completely you belong to me?" That or something like the this from 'Laura' (1994): "He's no good, but he's what I want. I'm not a nice person, Laura, and neither is he. He knows I know he's just what he is. He also knows that I don't care. We belong together because we're both weak and can't seem to help it. That's why I know he's capable of murder. He's like me."

I went to a school like this where one person got all of the solos and all of the leads roles in every performance from the time she was a freshman till her senior year. And I went to a public performing arts school. The school was bursting at the seams with talent, but it didn't matter. It almost didn't even make sense to audition for anything. But she was so incredibly talented, she was going to make it so far, she needed all that cred on her resume. She graduated, made one commercial (one of those blurbs where she's the operator standing by), and no one ever heard from her again. Everyone's high school years were screwed over to help this chic get one commercial. Nah. Totally worth it xD

Rachel is the most selfish character on the show. She claims to acknowledge that and appears to admit it, but she doesn't. Here she says "I know I can be a little abrasive and conceited" but she uses it as an excuse, she uses it to make people feel sorry for her, she doesn't really feel bad for it, and she doesn't use it as a full 'this is who I am' confession. She doesn't admit that half the things she does are just as bad as the bullying she goes through. She acts like she's the only one who's bullied, and she never lets anyone else feel good about themselves or have a moment to shine. The only time she does something for someone else where there isn't something in it for her is when she gets the Glee girls to get their boyfriends to tell Karofsky to back off from Kurt. She did everything she could to get the glee club up and running but then threatened to quit if they didn't get a better male lead, and she does similar things again and again throughout the series. Look, she's a great singer, but she is not a nice person, and the worst part is that she acts like she is. And for the record, I think the same as Finn - he acts like a nice guy but he's just as selfish as Puck is (I'm talking about the checking Santana in the hallway after she told Rachel that they'd slept together and his setting up the kissing booth because he decided he wanted Quinn back even though she was with Sam because "I know I can get her away from Sam if I can get her to kiss me" even though he knew what it felt like to be cheated on). I just keep on coming back to what Spanish dancer Antonio Gades said about Pilar Lopez, the dancer and dance teacher who discovered him when he was dancing in a cabaret club age 15 in one of his many part-time jobs he had to take after having to drop out of school to help his family. He said that she taught him about humility, about how to dance with his head as well as with his feet, and to not try to be better than everyone else, but just to try to be better than himself. And Pilar Lopez herself, she managed to create a legacy of her own, out of the shadow of her sister, another famous Flamenco dancer. She said that she wanted to be surrounded by people who were "are younger, more beautiful and better than me."
