City of Glendale
Glendale is a city in the Verdugo Mountains region of Los Angeles County, California, and the fourth-largest city in Los Angeles County. It is located about 10 miles north of downtown Los Angeles. Glendale has one of the largest communities of Armenian descent in the United States. As for climate, this Glendale has a Mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild to warm winters with occasional rainfall.
MONA Glendale:
The museum was founded in 1981. Its location in downtown LA closed in 2011 and reopened in Glendale, California in 2016. The collection includes neon signs from the Brown Derby and Grauman's Chinese Theatre. The Museum of Neon Art (MONA) is an institution that exists to encourage learning and curiosity through the preservation, collection, and interpretation of neon art. The first museum devoted to art that incorporates neon lighting, it exclusively exhibits art in electric media, including kinetic art and outstanding examples of historic neon signs. In addition to exhibitions and tours, the museum offers introductory classes in glass bending held in the museum's state-of-the-art studio.
Beyond the Box:
The art on the various utility boxes around the city is actually part of a program supported by the City of Glendale called “Beyond The Box”. Now in its sixth year, this program’s aim is to beautify the city’s streetscape with colorful and interesting murals installed by selected artists on city-owned utility boxes. To date murals over 100 boxes have been completed by the program, which has been very well received by residents and visitors to Glendale.
The Americana at Brand:
Just next to the Glendale center theatre there’s probably the biggest shopping
The Americana at Brand is a large shopping, dining, entertainment and residential complex in Glendale, California. Comprised of 82 retail shops and various restaruants. This shopping area is organized upon the idea of a city center-with a mix of architectural styles, building heights and materials used, as well as vast open spaces at each project's center.
The architectural style of the Americana reflects the brick factory facades of the industrial era, with its massive elevator shaft with exposed steel beams, while The Grove is reminiscent of 1930s Los Angeles, California.
Americana Fountain:
In addition to The Americana at Brand's upscale shops, restaurants, a movie theater, and the outdoor mall, it features a fountain called Waters of Americana, designed by a water feature design firm call WET. The musical fountain, located in the central landscaped park, performs every hour on the hour, though a non-musical program runs between shows. A gold-leaf statue, rises from the center of the fountain's smaller pool. The statue is a replica of Donald De Lue's 1949 Spirit of American Youth sculpture in France, a memorial to Americans who fought at Normandy in World War II.
Glendale Galleria:
The Glendale Galleria is a large three-story regional shopping center and office complex which opened in 1976, with 1.6 million square feet of retail space, it is the fourth largest mall in Los Angeles County.
Alex Theatre:
The Alex Theatre originally opened in 1925 as the Alexander Theatre. The unique interior has distinct neo-classic Greek and Egyptian architectural elements. A long walkway and courtyard separating the ticket booth from the lobby was inspired after the famous Grauman's Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. The Alexander officially opened its doors on September 4, 1925. The theater's diverse schedule boasts roughly 250 events per year and attracts more than 100,000 patrons annually. Apart for live events The Alex Film Society regularly schedules classic films, often accompanied with special guests.
Porto’s Bakery:
Porto’s Bakery was born out of Rosa Porto’s love for sharing her wonderful cakes and pastries with friends and family. In 1976, Rosa opened her first official storefront, Porto’s Bakery on Sunset Boulevard in Echo Park, California. Porto's has gradually grown into five existing locations in Glendale, Burbank, Downey, Buena Park, and West Covina with a sixth location in Northridge on the way. In 2016 Porto’s took the number one spot on “Yelp’s Top 100 Places to Eat in the US.”

Art’s Bakery:
Art’s bakery really is a staple of Glendale and has an enormous amount of choice. Not only do they have good baked goods but they also offer a freshly baked flat bread called Shoti Puri which is extremely delicious. Recently they remodeled the whole store and now they offer a couple of tables right outside the bakery where you can sit and enjoy a coffee or tea along with your pastry.
