🌄 Glendora Mountain with JAW DROPPING VIEWS!! // 4 miles, 1200 Feet Elevation Gain ⛰️
Lately, I've had this burning desire to explore the local peaks right in my backyard. Perhaps it's the sky-high gas prices, or maybe I've finally realized that epic adventures are closer than we think. On a crisp Sunday morning, October 1st, I decided to swing by the café to check in. It was my day off, but I was swiftly shown the door because it was a "girls only" shift. So, at around 10 am, I grabbed my coffee and decided it was time for a drive up Glendora Mountain Road and an ascent to the summit of Glendora Mountain.
Glendora Mountain, visible from the north on Lone Hill Ave, just before you hit Route 66, is the standout peak in the foothills of the Angeles National Forest. As I drove down Lone Hill, I couldn't help but look up at the most prominent peak on the left. Glendora Mountain Road was bustling with motorcyclists, road cyclists, and even the occasional Honda S2000 zipping by.
At the base of Glendora Mountain's west-running ridgeline, there's a spacious parking area. Right across from this parking spot, you'll spot an opening in the bushes, leading to a fire break that runs along the ridgeline to the peak. This was my chosen route, but the fire break had a tendency to disappear and reappear, turning my adventure into a prickly bushwhack at times.
I was pleasantly surprised by how spectacular the views became just a few hundred feet up on the trail. The previous night's hour-long rain had left everything fresh and clean. Beautiful clouds floated in and out, and the weather was simply perfect.
The summit was adorned with bushes, and I regretfully couldn't cook due to the fear of sparking the next big forest fire. However, the breathtaking views more than made up for it. I sent my drone soaring high, capturing incredible shots of the reservoir in Azusa Canyon, the surrounding peaks, and the charming city of Glendora. Adding to the uniqueness of this peak, someone had placed a metal Cross at the top.
There was an empty trail register PVC pipe, but it housed a bustling colony of red ants. I set my backpack down amidst them, a lesson learned the hard way - always be on the lookout for these little critters. After soaking in the view, I retraced my steps back down the trail.
In total, I spent about 2 hours hiking and enjoying the summit. The peak exceeded my expectations, thanks to those awe-inspiring views. I believe the city or the responsible authorities should consider making this an official trail.
