I’m still new to single malts (20 years old) and have tried a couple bottles from a couple distilleries. The GlenDronach 12 is by far my favourite of the ones I have tried. The exclusive sherry cask maturation is what I think does it for me. I agree with your statement about the small that radiates from the glass and my god is it good. I can’t wait to try their other offerings. For reference, here’s the list of the other single malts I’ve tried: Tomatin 12 year - quite enjoy it considering I was able to get it very cheap Ledaig 10 - not a fan as I have come to learn I do not like peaty whiskies (although I know this is a top notch whisky if you like peat) Glenmorangie 10 - quite good but doesn’t have the sherry character I love Chivas Regal Ultis (malt blend) - very very good. The smell of the glass the morning after is beyond amazing Do you have any recommendations for distilleries that mature exclusively in sherry casks? I know Tamdhu are another one and I’m keen to try their 12 year. Is their any other ones worth checking out?

Welcome my friend! You are on a wonderful journey of flavour Ethan, and I am glad you are here 🥃 Yes absolutely Tamdhu 12 if you are a fan of sherried whiskies. You must try the Bunnahabhain 12 too, and if you have the budget for it, try the Glendronach 15 and above, there is a wonderful and noticeable flavour jump from the 12, so if you love that one I'm sure you will enjoy these older age statements as well. Oh, and you MUST try GlenAllachie 12 and 15, phenomenal sherried whiskies as well! Sláinte!

As of early May 2024, in Virginia, a bottle of Glendronach 12 costs 76 USD, and a bottle of Macallan Sherry Oak 12 costs 100 USD.

Little side story: in the early days of this distillery, the founder James Allardice sold his whisky in the red light district of Aberdeenshire... and rumors say that he didn't always get paid with money... 😜

Easy decision for me, GlenAllachie 12. Higher ABV, natural colour, non chill-filtered and better flavour. Does he typically like sherried whiskies?

Thanks for your reply! It’s helpful. Yes he enjoys both sherried and peaty whiskeys. I am very new to whiskey so I’m currently hyperfixated on reviews so that I can learn a little bit more and make the right decision. I’ve bought a lagavulin 16 and a Glenmorangie 18 because I know those are whiskies he likes but I wanted to get something he hasn’t tried as well so that’s why I was considering the glenallachie 12 because the reviews look really good so far. What do you think? Also thanks for your videos they’ve proven to be very helpful and useful to me!

@@kaylashae3915 I am very glad to hear they have been helpful to you Kayla! If he likes sherried whisky the GlenAllachie 12 is a good safe choice. He may also like Ledaig 10 which is smoky and vanilla flavours.
