Glenn Tipton is one of the most under rated guitar players of all time. Some of the music this man has written and performed is the basis for all heavy metal and rock guitarists of this time.

Tipton is the best melodic metal guitarist ever. And he crafts songs and solos better than anyone in the genre. Which is mainly why Priest has way more good songs than the next metal band (along with Sabbath). Maiden is a full step down.
@Cl4rendon3 жыл бұрын
I saw Priest back in 79 as an opener for AC/DC and stood right infront of Glenn - It was so addictive to watch him play because i never had seen such a terrific guitarist like him before - He was a real monster on the stage playing the SG back then. Watching this shows another humble part of him and i really appreciate watching this over and over again. I`m saddened to hear he`s now ill. To me he was the best next to Blackmore.

I've worshiped him since I was 12 years old when British Steel came out. He is as much a reason that I play guitar as anyone. I really enjoy that he's so sentimental and good natured. I also like that he's interested in how he thinks they sound, and not models and dates, etc. He seems like he might be an exception to the "never meet your heroes" rule. Great video.

I was first at him, and told him there are people waiting for him, so we had a minute of chat. He is my biggest guitar hero, but I've got to admit, that you're right. I seen Judas priest in the 80s, there the foundation for Slayer, but also known for a lot of innovations and guitar licks on solos preferably beyond the realms of death when you pull off on a string and you tap on it, it gives you that sustained harmonic sound that be all love he did a lot of things that no other guitar player did. You'll be sorely missed!

Great relaxed quality to this video. Liked that he showed these various axes and described the love and respect for the iconic ones like the SG and the black Strat. What i liked the most was the Epi 12 string being there and him saying it could almost write a song by itself. Made me think of an interview i read with Alex Lifeson 5 or 10 years ago where he mentioned his white ES 345 or 55 inspiring him to write a song just by looking at it. Then Glenn unveils his favorite axe,, a white ES!!! Pretty great.

The guitar master himself unveils to us his huge collection! I think Tipton is too humble of a guy, really, he is so much better of a guitarist than what everyone else perceives. He is the most versatile guitar player I've ever heard, think about it, he grew up listening to Elmore James and Freddie King, the blues had a major impact on him! If Tipton performed just once at Crossroad Guitar Festival, he'd give Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, and B.B. King a run for their money!

The End.....

What i think is cool about Glenn is his evolution of playing. In the early years he was bluesy. By the time you get to Screaming for vengeance he was tapping and then low and behold ripping arpeggios on Painkiller. That just goes to show you dont have to be an yngwie when you start out. you can learn as you get older.

The 12 string with only 6 strings on it is set up in "Nashville tuning", where you replace the four wound strings with plain strings tuned an octave higher than normal. It's called Nashville tuning because the idea originated with studio guitarists working in Nashville, as a means of making two guitar parts stand out from each other on a recording. One of the things that's great about that set up is it's easy to play chords with tone clusters in them, because the low E, A, D and G strings are tuned an octave higher, so playing something like an open Cadd9th chord, you get the C, D and E notes all in the same octave, a little bit like what pianists can do.

Glenn Tipton is a highly underrated guitarist. Speaking of the blues, he had been playing that for many years as he was highly influenced by Freddie and Albert King, the Spencer Davis Group, and Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac. From everything he has done with Priest, a lot of people are stumbled upon the fact that all he can play is metal and nothing but metal. From what I've heard from him, he's among one of the greatest I've ever heard. I wish he'd perform solo sometime.

Being much fuller sound, with versitile rythym, alao lead breaks shared amongst both guitarists. Very first group to patent this double excursion. Attended 1986, and glenn beyond expectations within entire arena. My favorite within his collection guitars, the white strat, second favorite the hamer sfrat body.
