Glimpses of Middlewich and Winsford in the 1960s

Courtesy of Bill Armsden and John Bailey here's a rare chance to see a few fleeting glimpses of Middlewich and Winsford as they were towards the end of the 1960s, captured on 8mm cine film and digitised so that we can enjoy them today. The scenes we see here are just part of a longer film chronicling a family day out at Chester Zoo, circa 1968, and offer us the chance to see our town at the very end of what we like to call its 'salt town days' (the open pan works all having closed in 1966/7) and before major housing development and 'gentrification' started in earnest.

Thank you for posting ❤️ great to see this video 😊 I’d of only been 1 year old but lived all my life in Middlewich 👍🏻 still there at 60 yrs old

My grandparents and great aunt lived here . Buried in cemetery now.

Original dash cam film!! I'm old enough to remember most of these old buildings and road layout of Middlewich and Winsford.

priceless thanks so much for adding I was ten when this was taken and moved away about 12 years ago so its wonderful to remember it as it was

Lovely I'm second cousin to Norman macklin, Norman and myselfs great grandparents both died in Middlewich. My father Normans cousin have fond memories of young eccentric Norman playing classical music.

I remember Norman Macklin, he was a little eccentric. I presume he has now passed away. He was in his 50's when I knew him. Thats 40yrs ago.

@@jjsmallpiece9234 I hope he was okay the family ditched his father John and Norman and his adopted brother because of money, my grandad Albert said on numerous occasions he couldn't care less about the money

@@chucky2316 I grew up in Middlewich 1960/70/80s - left when I got married in 1988. Visited regularly until my parents passed away in 2009.

@@jjsmallpiece9234 please call me kieran, I'm very sad he passed away on his own. We will be going up north to see buildings etc, we never forgot Norman we just lost Contact wouldn't he have loved the Dartmouth steam trail. Rip Norman very very sad we never met. I'm sorry you died alone.
