“$50B orgy of spending”: Poilievre mocks Trudeau for latest federal budget

The day after the 2024 federal budget was released, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh exchanged quips in the House of Commons on Wednesday, during the first question period since the fiscal plan was made public.
“Who pays for this latest $50 billion orgy of spending by this costly prime minister?” Poilievre asked. “We know who won't pay - It won't be those with trust funds that protect their millions of inheritance like the prime minister, nor the billionaires that invite him to their private Caribbean islands.”
Trudeau retaliated by saying that it was “interesting to see the lengths” to which Poilievre would go to avoid admitting that he was “choosing to stand with the ultra-wealthy against the middle class, against young Canadians.”
Meanwhile, Singh said that young people “know they’re getting ripped off” because of corporate greed, blaming it for driving up the cost of living. He also claimed that the Conservatives get angry whenever corporate greed is mentioned because it means the NDP are “taking on their masters.”

@@Tomyum19 true but the average government employee makes 125k a year 75k more than the average Canadian, while the average senator racks in 150k a year, this also depends on titles held by MPs, for example Trudeau gets 400k a year for being PM while the leader of the opposition polliveir makes 279k a year

@@dovakien5358 Not even close. The typical government salary is closer to $80,000. And that’s for federal workers. Provincial workers are even lower. You have to look at the median, not the average. Because the massive salaries of senior directors and other high skill and high salary workers skew the averages high. Provincial employees are appx $70,000. I’m a provincial employee and I basically make exactly $70,000.

Yeah. Yeah it really is. I got my elec and gas bill. I used $9 in gas and I was charged a total of just over $60 in all the fees and taxes. In Canada they can literally levy a tax on a tax. It's insane. It is my fondest wish that everything West of Ontario leaves Canada and creates our own country.

It might be counter-intuitive but history has shown the best way to increase tax revenue is to promote economic activity and investment, not the opposite which is increasing the tax rate. Example: the revenue of 10% tax on $1000 is more than 15% tax on $500. Reagan did exactly this.

It shouldn't be an issue, Conservatives should have a much stronger majority of the popular vote than they did last time, but the Conservative Party lite is considered Nazism by some. Those voters will die off eventually, and ironically be replaced by immigrants the Liberals shipped in who actually have Conservative values and will vote accordingly.

Imo it's a lot more than just Trudeau. He sucks, and is absolutely making it worse; but if you listen to Pierre he doesn't really put forward any solutions to a lot of Canadian pressures. He loves to go on about the carbon tax and act although that's driving up things like grocery prices but frankly it's corporate greed. If Pierre talked about increasing taxes on the wealthy, breaking up monopolies in our telecommunication and grocery sectors I'd actually believe he cares about the common Canadian; but he doesn't. He says a lot of passionate words but doesn't bring up any real solutions.

Obviously their insanity and abuse will eventually mean that no one except an MP will be allowed to or able to afford to own a single family home. They are doing everything that they can to make sure that honest people will not be able to afford to keep a home. They will make it so that people will have to "share" their home or be taxed in to poverty. They will probably penalize people for not sharing their home by making sure they are taxed so high they will have no choice but to take in a renter or sell half of their property and still be taxed highly but a little less if you give up your home. This is an evil regime who uses "climate change" as an excuse to extort money out of Canadians every way possible plus they will say it helps with the homeless problem which they created with unlimited immigration. This is the most destructive, evil and corrupt regime on the planet.

I make 62k a year and paycheck to paycheck. Skipping meals and eating instant noodles only I managed only put 1k on food a gas per month. The rest of it all goes to bills, taxes, insurances, and mortgages.
