Toronto church fire that consumed Group of Seven murals was "heart-wrenching": priest

Members of a Toronto community are mourning the loss of a historic Toronto church that was home to irreplaceable artworks, after it was devastated by fire over the weekend.
St. Anne’s Anglican church was constructed in 1862 and designated by the Ontario Heritage Act.
Among the artworks in its hallowed halls were several murals and impressive paintings - some painted by three of Canada’s iconic Group of Seven.
The iconic dome of the church, a focal point of the historic building, was reduced to charred wood by the fire.
Caryn Lieberman reports on the community’s response to its tragic loss.

this is disgusting! everyone knows who is setting these fires and nothing is done about it, even though it is a hate crime, just as it is a hate crime when a mosque or synogogue is burned down. are the police going to do something about this?

@@seanhewitt603 in what fashion? Churches have done more to help people in need than any other group in society. Hundreds of years ago the church did some pretty horrible things, and have apologized for these things and have made up for it thousands of times over through their good deeds. You can't show me any other group in history that has done as much to help people in need than the church. You also do know that there's more war started by governments than there is religion. So who is the problem really?

However, You have to be pretty incoherant to legitimately not kmow it is happening as we speak. The last 6 years have been the hotest on record with each year hotter than the last. If you actually reseached it yourself you can see the 20 thousand years and this has been the most agressive incline in average the gobal temperature which is just a coincidence right ? I dont agree with some models that have the caps melting and all of us drowing tomorrow. However, 20 years from now there will be nobody able to live in the lower 3/4s of south america. Where are all of those people going to go ? More north. People think there is border problems now ? In 20 years roughly a billion peope will be trying to force there way up through mexico into the states to survive. Thats realistic as the gobal temp models were lower than what they calculated the rivised model is around 40% higher

Wikipedia says it took 2 years to build. So by looks of things the foundation and bricks look good/. Just put a roof over it should not take 12 months to complete with modern technology we have today

Another reason that these buildings need constant maintenance and yearly investment. A 175 year old Sone granite church in Connecticut- completely collapsed- destroying itself in one moment . These buildings are advanced elderly structures, like people- it requires huge attention.

I visited the service at that church three times. it was always empty with max 20 people for sunday service. Why all of sudden community mourns if nobody cared when the church was stil alive ?
