Those of us who experienced the losses of St. Georges Round Church Halifax NS, and St. John's Church Lunenburg NS know about this kind of loss. We also know something about inspired restoration. The paintings are gone forever, but something wonderful could arise from the ashes. We will not see The Group of Seven Paintings restored but the Toronto and National Arts Communities can now respond! Room has been made by fire for incredible pent up talent. This talent may even inspire us by creating out of the ashes of fire a new Group of Seven, or even more? They can now show wonderous things from the depths of their talent reserve. What about a call across the nation for new paintings from a mature Canadian arts community? From inspired painters and from the best of our current treasure of artisans and sculptors? The fire must be investigated, this gives time for financial organization to begin. This is the time for a national effort to rebuild and yes somewhat recreate St. Anne's. If Nova Scotia with its lesser economy can rebuild historic churches, then surely Toronto & Ontario can? Reverend Peter Rafuse+
