Released in 1990, the Glock 22 & 23 in 40 S&W have been a main stay of many police departments for decades. So is the 40 Cal Glock still the go-to pistol for US police departments or is the tide now changing? Watch this video to find out more...

I own lots of different calibers, but I love my 40's. They just hit really hard. I have a hard time respecting any gown man who finds the 40 recoil too much to handle. The difference is negligible at best.

Ignore what 9fans said about recoil and how their 9 do more damage than other..no normal 9mm can do a damage like any 40 and 45 did except a 9+p+.. but what the point shooting +p+ 9mm if it gave recoil same like the 40 and the higher pressure on that +P+ 9mm ofcourse will wear a frame and barrel fast than the 40 guns.

People always try to argue with me that it's a terrible round just because it's slightly more snappy. my argument is I just want a gun with ammo in it and it's hard to find 9mm, 45, .38 special or .357 and I've been able to find plenty of .40 Cal some places are even price gouging 9 mil and it cost just as much or more then 40. I want to be honest with you I pretty much love all caliberd above .22

I was a 40 guy for the longest time but now I’m mostly shoot and carry 9. With that being said, the 40 caliber round is more powerful and there is no denying that, but the main question is, is that extra power worth it for less capacity and a little more snap
@lukesmith981
@lukesmith981 Жыл бұрын
@@ilikedirtx22 For someone that lives in California it is worth it. Glock 19 and Glock 23 Gen 3’s holds and are limited only 10 rounds per magazines. 40 and 9mm have the same penetration, velocity, and power, but 40 round is bigger. That’s the only difference and which is why many Californians chose the Glock 23 over the 19 when it comes to conceal carry. I also carry the Glock 19 from time to time and still trust it with my life, but nothing lower.

I personally don’t see the 40 s&w as a “compromise” round especially with it’s capabilities to launch a heavier grain bullet than the 9mm at a greater speed than the 45 acp. If we’re talking about duty rounds of those three than I’d say the 9mm had caught up with a bonded bullet and maxed out to +p/+p+. As well as all three of those rounds have benefited with better powders and bonded bullets making them equal so to speak. But here’s the issue with that though, many concealed carriers are not going out of their way to purchase and practice with duty rounds and are getting “standard” loaded non bonded self defense rounds. With those “standard” self defense rounds, the 40 is a more guaranteed potent caliber with the benefit I stated in the beginning of my comment. With the 165 grain bullet you’re getting a faster moving heavier round than 124 grain 9mm that has more potential in barrier penetration than “standard” 9mm or 45acp. If you want something with more penetration than that you can go 180 grain which lowers the speed a bit but is still faster than 45acp. I hope didn’t come off repetitive, but with any ammo droughts with all the duty 9mm rounds that made 9mm more viable for duty use being bought up by the government and panic buyers, folks would lean towards 45 acp and especially the 40 s&w with their “standard” more guaranteed performance. Many who complain about the “snappiness” of 40 are shooting small subcompact handguns when in reality the 40 is a duty round that flourishes in compact and even better in full-size handguns. I think internet marketing has overhyped the 9mm to mythical proportions and has belittled the 40 s&w in all the wrong ways. But great video.

My first 40 was a Sig p239 and it jumped around making 2nd and 3rd shot a lot harder to be accurate with. Bought the g23 and it absorbs the recoil like a dream. When your using a 22 or 23 you know your throwing lead downrange. Today they are my go to guns unless I'm in grizzly territory. Then it's the 20.

My issued firearm was a G22 G4. I loved this pistol so much that I bought one for my personal handgun. The length and the hand grip gives above-average accuracy easier to achieve. Great pistol! Getting rapidly back on target is easier to acquire by firing from the point of trigger reset.

I started for the department that I work for back in April of 2007. The department uses Glock 22 handguns and getting firearms certified in the academy was my first experience shooting a firearm that was chambered in .40 S&W. From training with them at work, I really fell in love with Glocks, the Glock 22, and the .40 S&W caliber. In early 2009, I think somewhere between March to June, I bought my own personal Glock 22, that was identical to our duty G22’s at work. It is a blue label, Gen 3 Glock 22 with Glock factory night sights. Out of every firearm that I own, and there are a lot! My Glock 22, has more range time on it over any other firearm that I own. That gun allowed me to have a lot more range time when I was off duty. Because the State has a strict budget for the department, we could only qualify once a quarter, or on average, once every 3 months. But if someone qualified in the first month and first day of the first quarter and then qualified again on the last day of the last month of the second quarter, then they would essentially go 6 months in between training. We then had a 2 day annual refresher course that we are required to take once a year. With my G22, I probably shoot it better than any other handgun, simply because of the range time on it. In my 11 years of owning it, the gun has never malfunctioned. It has also been used in every weather condition from sub zero temperatures to days that were over 110 to 115 degrees with no wind and on black rock with black tires 15’ high on both sides of the range. My personal G22, and the range ones, in addition to being used in every weather condition have also been completely exposed and covered in ice and snow, water, and varying degrees of sand, dirt, and mud and the Glocks still always function. I don’t know how many rounds I have put through my personal G22, over the years but I know that many of our range Glocks have well over 50,000 to 60,000 rounds put through them. Possibly even well North of 70,000 rounds put through them at the departments ranges and all but I think either 2 or 3 range guns still have all of their original internal components that they were assembled with when they were built and were brand new. It is because of those reasons and my observing and training with them that in my personal opinion, I believe that they are the most reliable and durable handgun ever made and also offers the best longevity. I also love and own several other types and brands of firearms too, but I will probably, always trust Glock the most. I think I now own 13 or 14 Glocks in total and with more to be bought. My goal is to eventually own every Glock made, from every generation made and in every finish or color scheme made. This past Friday, on May 29th, I went and purchased another brand new Glock. It is a blue label, Gen 4 Glock 23 with factory night sights. My daughter graduated high school on Saturday so I have not been able to take it to the range yet but when I do, I will be completely stoked. My every day conceal and carry is a Gen 5 Glock 45 MOS. I absolutely love that gun too. I really wish Glock would release Gen 5 models for all of the handgun calibers that they make. I also with they would release the G19X/G45 in other calibers too. At least in .40 S&W and .357 Sig. Call them either the G23X and G32X or some other number that is new, after their patent. The thing that I love the most about my G19X and G45, is how well they are balanced. Much more so than both the G17, and the G19. The full size grip and frame mated to the compact barrel and slide work incredibly well together. It’s also nice being able to hold an extra 2 rounds per magazine.

@@YO_HO_2EASY, very nice and congratulations on your new Glock 19X! Those are great guns to buy and own. I also own a Glock 19X, as well. Although, on the side of things being slightly ironic, just as I previously stated before, my personal Glock 22, that is identical in every single way to the Glock 22’s, that are owned by the department that I work for, my personal Glock 22, was also my primary, every day, conceal and carry gun a from the time that I bought it brand new in I think either March or April of 2009, until January 1st, 2019 when I started carrying a Glock 45, as my primary, every day, conceal and carry firearm. The thing that I absolutely love the most about the Glock 19X’s, and Glock 45’s, is how well both of the guns are balanced. I’ve always thought that all of my Glocks were pretty well balanced firearms in the past. However, when Glock put a full size grip and magazines on a compact size frame, slide and barrels, them doing that made those guns even more balanced than all of the other kinds of Glocks in the past. I just wish Glock would now do the same thing as well, with all of their other compact size firearms that are chambered in something other than 9x19mm. So for example, if Glock made a Glock 23X, chambered in .40 S&W or a Glock 32X, that is chambered in .357 Sig. If Glock ever did that, I would buy each of those in a heartbeat!

I have carried the Glock 17 & the Glock 22 on and off duty and my scores for qualification are identical. The recoil is really a non-issue for me and my peers while admitting only a slightly stronger recoil. Agencies who say some officers have an issue with the 40 cal are agencies that have a few officers that cannot shoot anyway no matter what they're issued. Many departments may issue a Glock 9mm or another 9mm still allow the 40sw and 45 ACP to be carried in and out of uniform.

Having grown up in a law enforcement family full of ex Marines, it was always hilarious to me and many of them over the last 2 decades at least, the bouncing back and forth between 9mm, .45, etc of many agencies. Many don't realize it's not always tactical for decisions but contracts with gun manufacturers in particular Sig and Glock. Those two companies have battled for years for law enforcement contracts so they switch brands and sometimes calibers for a while. Many Central and Northern CA local agencies recently contracted with Glock for the Glock 21SF .45 and the pricing is awesome for the bottom line, but mostly the officers love the gun and I can see why owning one myself. It's a shorter frame, grips well and doesn't shoot like a .45 but gives you the power of the caliber. And it is extremely light which I think is what the officers like most honestly. And some say anecdotally they've noticed officers winning more gun fights (look up Lodi CA PD) recently with the Glock 21SF. As with anything though it's just accuracy and training ultimately that prevails. 9mm, .45, .40 etc. In the hands of the well trained shooter the training will prevail vs what round you're firing. A fact the military has known forever

Excellent video. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Just subscribed. Over the past twenty years I have purchased four used LEO Glocks, three 22 and a 23. Great value for the price, ($300-350) I also purchased a new 27 and 17. I recently purchased Lone Wolf threaded barrels and conversion barrels for several of them. I am ambivalent about the 357 Sig as I am very satisfied with what I already have. I do appreciate having the option of using that caliber though. I will have to spend much more time at the range before offering an opinion as to whether the conversion barrels are reliable enough to bet my life on. Until then, I will CC my firearms in their original caliber/mm. Thank you for a professional and informative video.

People who shoot 9mm all the time will say the 40 cal. is too snappy. People who shoot 40 cal. all the time have no issues with it. You can get used to it . Shoot 50 rounds of 40 cal. and then shoot a snubby revolver in .38 special. The snubby will feel like your shooting a cannon.

I agree 100%. And also some just have first time shooting that caliber impression without training to it more and getting used to it. They just feel "Oh that was too much recoil, that caliber sucks". lol. I shot a 10mm once and I'll admit it had that "snappiness" I didn't like. It just reminded me too much of the first pistol I was trained on which was the .357 which I loved, but loved more when the other caliber semi autos took center stage. I've fired them all and although I prefer the heavier rounds like the .45 and .40 I do enjoy shooting the 9mms, etc. Everyone is different, training etc.

The 9mm is actually a higher pressure round at 38000 psi as opposed the the 40 S&W at 35000 psi The 40 is the superior round over the 9mm ....

@@RBslowman I don't know how underwood does it, but they pump this bullet up to 1300fps in the 40 s&w for almost 600ftlbs!!! I definitely think the 155gr is where it's at with the 40 s&w as 180gr and up just eats too much case capacity, and the 155gr doesn't beat your gun up as much.

The 9mm conversion barrel cost right around $200 and change. Throw in the 9mm clips at around $26, say you buy 3 of those so that brings your initial cost to right around a little over $300. I don't see the economic practicality of this if it means the cost is about 50% of buying a dedicated 9mm. Just go ahead and buy a new dedicated 9mm. For me though, I'd stick with the .40. It has more umphh and the recoil is the happy medium between a .45 and a 9mm.

Just saw some LEO trade ins at a local gun store, Glock 22 & 23s, both in Gen 3 & 4. I don't have a Glock yet or a 40 cal handgun, but seriously thinking about a 22. Prices right now are for a Gen 4 22 are $475 reconditioned. It wasn't on my radar but I live in NJ and the gun laws are ridiculous and getting a handgun takes a permit and can only purchase once every 30 days, plus a permit takes about 3 months to get, at least right now. So the appeal of having a 40 cal then swap in a 9mm conversion barrel so in essence have 2 guns in one is nice, and could even go .357 SIG. So, I would imagine the consensus would be to do it, it's Glock so really can't go wrong, am I right?

@sainttenn
@sainttenn 6 жыл бұрын
ray marchetta they are inferior flat out. The only 9mm round worth a shit is liberty civil defense bc it goes 2000+FPS. But then the 40 cal version goes that fast too so we are back to saying it is inferior again. .357 sig is best of both worlds wildcat of sorts. You get 9mm grain size on the butt kicking 40sw cartridge. Packs a wallop and no the 9x25 Dillon can’t hang with it so stop that bullshit too. 357 sig and 10mm are two best handgun calibers arguably. 45 isn’t worth shit unless it is the 2000fps rounds. Those are game changers and give that worthless caliber a reason for being. Larger calibers like 460 Rowland 460sw 454 casull 44 mag, etc are too slow to cause the damage they could unless fired out of a rifle and even then I doubt they could hang with a low grain raptor bullet out of 18” + barrel

9x19mm sucks terminally. Bullet design only helps it suck a bit less. Ive saw and heard of perps taking hits, sometimes dropping, sometimes not, and sometimes dropping, then getting back up to either keep attacking, or they run off and are found later at the hospital or in some alley way, ditch by the road, abandoned building, or parked car. Never heard or saw such bs regularly going on in departments using .40, .45, or .357 magnum or .357 Sig. So. 9mm might be all nice and gentle and require less training to get improved range scores by small stature men and women? But so does .22 long rifle, .380 ACP, .32 ACP, or .25 ACP. And I don't hear of ANY police department or military issuing. 22 lr, .380, .32ACP, .25 ACP to its personnel these days. For good reason. They can all still kill and can be easy to train with and accurate. But they severely lack the terminal destructive capability to stop bad people from doing bad things to good people with any degree of reliability. Most handguns have this same trouble. But some don't. The .40 S&W is one of those rare cartridges that was purpose built to NOT be just a shortened 10mm as some like to describe it. But .40 S&W was purposely designed to instead be a shortened 10mm that lost little to none in the way of the original 10mms destructive terminal capability to do enough bone and tissue destruction to STOP a human being with a high degree of reliability, but still high capacity in a magazine and impart less weapon erosion than 10mm usually was cursed with having the capacity to do.. While 9x19mm Parabellum on the other hand is a 100+ year old blown out .30 Luger that Georg Luger, it's designer, thought might land him a financially lucrative military contract from those world militaries who thought his .30 Luger cartridge lacked killing power. Luger got lucky, fairly wealthy, and the world got the 9x19mm Para.

Time for the FBI to show us the Stats at how good the 9mm is in stopping the threat. They need to prove it does the job because the human body is in no way similar to a block of gel. You can push a fist into a belly several inches but you can not do that to a gel block.
