I remember watching this movie with my family in December 1989. One year later I was recalled out of military retirement (United States Army) to served again during Operation Desert Sheild that became Operation Desert Storm. Having done two combat tours in South Vietnam 67-68 & 70-71, "Glory" is a part of my legacy as a Black American whose family have fought in every war since the late 1800s.

Your family deserves special accolades for their great efforts and sacrifices over the centuries, not just in service of the USA, but because of all that your family (as all black families) would have endured. 🏅👏🏾🌟😇

Probably the best commercial film made about the civil war to date. Gettysburg is also a timeless civil war film and is certainly enjoyable for the layman, but is really for civil war aficionados.

This is one of my favourite films. As someone who isn't into wishy washy love flicks the ending scene where Shaw and his men all know they face certain death is simply the best. I'm only 17 and most people my age will probably watch this masterpiece 😭

Great movie, awesome soundtrack, magnificent actors. I really love it from the first sight when I was saw it around 12-13 years old. Maybe it is one of reasons I'm still history enthusiasts. As a European citizen I find that era in US history quite interesting. Thank you for the Soundtrack Fred and James Horner!

Love this soundtrack too. If you notice most films about this period up until Glory rarely saw African Americans or African American characters in a movie in a ennobled light. I'm a history lover too and this film presents the American ethos. I once had a European friend ask me, why are Americans willing to give their lives in war to help complete strangers in a far off country? And without even needing to think about it I told her that we defend freedom - anybody's and anywhere freedoms are being trampled upon. It's what Americans initially were fighting for in the Revolutionary war. In the Civil War, unionists recognized that it was not just about holding the union together but fighting for enslaved people to be free and slavery not to be extended into the West. FDR's rallying cry to the American people stated this ethos famously in 1941 when he prepared Americans for their entry into the War in Europe. He reminded us what we had and what we were fighting for that is Freedom of speech, Freedom of worship, Freedom from want and Freedom from fear. Because we have these 4 Freedoms we want every people to have them too. Sorry to sound like a History lecturer but that's what I trained for in college.

Fantastic work fitting an epic into 15 minutes. Amazing score by Horner that hits all of the feels. This movie hurt to watch. Yes there is a lot of Carmina and some other stuff in there but I don't care. Horner is just superb.

One of my all time favorite movies. I first saw it in the theaters when it first came out. James Horner's score is both memorable , awe inspiring & never fails to leave me misty eyed. A fitting tribute to these courageous men. Thank you Soundtrack Fred for posting this.

“Glory” (1989), based on a true story deals with the first company of black soldiers during the American civil war, lead by Colonel Robert Gould Shaw (Matthew Broderick), who not only had to fight against the enemy, but against prejudices among own ranks. Among Broderick, Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman, Andre Braugher, Cary Elwes and many more give the movie a great flair. The connection between the main characters seems as authentic as rarely seen nowadays, mainly due to the careful direction by Edward Zwick. The music, recognizable by the first notes was composed by James Horner, who found himself at his creative peak during the 80’s and 90’s, scoring big scale productions (with big scale scores) such as “Willow” (1988) and “Braveheart” (1995). The climactic choral piece “Charging Fort Wagner” will slightly remind of Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana”, which coincidentally(?) was utilized for the trailer. After all it’s a great contribution for the movie and a stunning listening experience. A big shoutout for the orchestral finesse of Horner’s scores goes to Greig McRitchie, who orchestrated most of them and contributing a lot to their quality. Enjoy!

I'd say this film does not get the credit it deserves. I remember watching it for the first time somewhere in the early 90s. It was probably the first movie that featured an ensemble black cast, highlighting events in history which were shaped by black people, but which are not brought to the fore as often as they should be. The score by the late James Horner (virtuoso composer) really brings the dramatic events of the film to life vividly. Roundabout time index 8:20 you can hear two repeated orchestrations which bear great resemblance to Sergei Prokofiev's 'Battle on the Ice' from 'Alexander Nevsky'. 🎼👏🏾❤

1989 was the year some kind of deep change really took hold in Horner's music, fully realized -- with 3 amazing scores that made pretty much everything he did arguably until the early 2000s, except Sneakers, pale in comparison (and i know many disagree...): Field of Dreams, Glory, In Country. thanks for including new tracks from the glorious LLL release.

The main stirring theme is lifted from Prokofiev's opera, "War and Peace." If it isn't theft from the masters, it's just not Horner! 🌻😸🌻

Hello, if I remember correctly a whole bunch (specially battle cues) where ultimately not used, as the one you mentioned. The film is still great with the music that's in it, but I still wonder how it would sound with all of Horner's intended cues. Best! Fred
