In a real fight, it would have been one more quickly. These were two mediocre practitioners trying to leverage the the sword to get a little tap or a little stab. Joint locking is almost impossible in real life situations. Just watch Aikido demos vs an Aikido fight, where there is little to zero joint locking. The Aikido demos have these old dudes going 'grab my wrist', then twist some poor dude into submissions. It's almost impossible to grab someone's hand or arm in a fight.

He is using some traditional two handed Jian techniques, the same found in historical manuals, like Wu Bei Zhi that I study, the military prep manual. He is clearly using traditional guards. How isn't he using two handed Jian techniques? Whether he is good or not is another matter but he is clearly trying to use actual Chinese two handed Jian techniques. Show me you fighting with a Jian in the correct way then. or are you just a Armchair swordsman.

These are as close to real fighting conditions as you'll get without having to risk life or limb. If the war manual techniques can't be applied in this setting, then they are not for fighting, they are for dancing, much like most of kung fu. This right there is the only honest attempt at actual sword fighting I've seen from the Chinese, good on those guys...The rest of the "masters" should watch and learn.

You're right. That Taido looks similar more to Tang dynasty sword rather than Katana. While the straight sword looks more like Longsword than a Jian.
