In this video, I briefly talk about my chosen set up for venting my Glowforge Plus out of my window including the use of an AC Affinity External Extraction Unit in place of the internal fan on the Glowforge.

Nice one Rob, very informative. I guess it's important to make sure you actually remember to turn the fan on as I suppose it won't turn on automatically when you start a job? (I don't have a GF yet - next year for me now as I've had other priorities).

Absolutely. It’s an entirely manual process so that’s is one negative - I’ve forgotten, only briefly, to turn it in before! Another advantage not mentioned however, is the ability to set different power levels so when I cut mdf it is on high but simple scoring on a piece of plywood o my needs half that amount of power so it’s even quieter. I’m pleased I chose this set up. Hi very good video, I'm also in the uk and thinking of buying a glowforge, Im also thinking of getting the filter to go with it. But if I go for the set up like you (venting out the window) Im wondering how much smoke is emitted and is there a strong smell? I've not seen any footage showing what comes out when vented through the window. I too will join your forum and use your referral link

Hi Stephen - thanks for watching! In regards to smoke emission, it depends on what you’re cutting/engraving - mdf kicks out a fair bit of residue and smoke as do certain plywood’s due to the glue and acrylic will probably be the smelliest but with little residue. By all accounts I’ve not come across any major issues with smoke aside from a few owners who have had to plump for an internal air filter because they live in built up areas with neighbours literally hanging outside their windows! I’d say, go for the exhaust setup first and then add the air filter if you find it’s not working out for you. That way you’re not investing nearly £1k in something that you may not actually need.
