I see a lot of the same packaging with the same ratios from a couple of companies. They probably have a single source and sell under numerous labels, like some generic food in the states.

Are you able to cover this product with resin. Would it stick to it
@artistrobfuller
@artistrobfuller 3 күн бұрын
I have done so multiple times. The trick is to ensure that the eco resin is abrasive. So if you have an area that you want to layer some resin on, give it a sand to rough it up, then clean any loose remanence with 99% isopropyl (preferably) to ensure there's no dust or debris remaining and then you should be able to successfully adhere resin onto it. Also ensure it is fully cured - ideally a couple of days after making it so that you know all moisture is gone. It's not a 100% guarantee but it's worked for me so far. It also depends on what you want to do. So laying clear resin over some scuffed up eco resin might not be ideal so it'll be better with resin that is tinted with pigment. However, I recently started engraving designs onto my eco resin pieces and experimented with layering some clear resin over it and it worked well as it bonded with the engraved part of the eco resin really well, without me needing to scuff it by sanding it! You can check out my laser engraved eco resin videos on my channel too if you like. Thanks for watching.

That’s great to know, thanks for watching, I’m pleased it helped you as that was the goal! I’d definitely give it a try, especially if starting out but as mentioned in the video I can’t advocate for the long term efficacy of the product as yet plus as someone who wants to use a laser engraver on it, I’ve still opted for a different, more established brand as I know it’s safe to use with my laser. I hope to one day hear back from the manufacturers of this cheaper alternative to confirm it is also safe and then I can do another demo but in the meantime if you want to check out my other videos using Aquacast, you can check out cool it is when it’s engraved too!

I tried this, but all my droplets came loose and popped out, so I was left with little divetts, which is okay because I made it a space-themed tray so it looked like little craters. Should they have stayed in, though, or did yours eventually pop out?
@artistrobfuller
@artistrobfuller 2 ай бұрын
Mine have always stayed in. Perhaps it’s about the curing time. I de-mold after about 30-40 mins then leave for a couple of days before adding a wax seal. So far they’ve been fine. I have seen other videos combining resin and resincrete where they’ve come apart so there is something to it, just not sure exactly to what! I’m sure the answer is out there somewhere on KZfaq!

Hi, thanks for watching, I'm glad you found it informative. It's recommended to use stone top wax to help seal material like this and I believe there is also a liquid/spray you can get that does the same sort of thing. Basically, anything, even from a basic diy store that sells waterproof sealant for porous stone, concrete etc should work fine. You'll sometimes find when you buy the starter kits for products like resincrete or aqua cast or jesmonite, will come with a small sample of wax that you can rub onto the product afterwards so that's something to look out for. I hope that helps!

@artistrobfuller
@artistrobfuller 3 ай бұрын
As far as I’m aware, I can’t see why not. It’s a bit or miss though and also dependent on the mould - I found that the cheap mica powder I got from a Temu haul worked perfectly well, yet I’ve heard from others that they’ve struggled at times. I’d say it’s simply about experimenting. I just went for it and it worked out well.

Thanks for watching! Yeah I should think that’s fine, it’ll just take a little longer to cure before you’re able to add the resincrete and you’d have to ensure the viscosity was such that it doesn’t spread out too much over that time. Uv resin is easier for this and it’s relatively cheap so I’d definitely choose that if it were me.

HI Rob I just had my glowforge plus delivered today. I used your referral code. I too have just made my first gift of good measure tool. I was venting out the window only the room was quiet smelly of burnt wood, I did feel some air blowing out from the back of the machine where the hose was connected, I'm not sure if this should have happened, maybe it wasn't connected correctly. I too would like to get an external fan, can you let me know where you got it and does it come with a UK electrical supply and do you get a good seal from the back of the glowfordge to stop any air coming out
@artistrobfuller

Hi Stephen, thanks for reaching out and a particularly BIG ThankYou for using my referral link! It means a lot! Have you joined my Glowforge UK Facebook Group? If not, please feel free to do so as there are many resources I've put together there that you may find really useful, including a Guide with lots of info including venting! To your issue. If you felt air coming out the back of the machine then it definitely sounds like your hose wasn't on tight enough, hence the smell. I got my AC Infinity Cloudline extractor from Amazon but you can shop around - I got the 6" version plus reducers to go from the 4" hose to 6" unit. I used foil tape, used in loft work, to help create a tight seal as well as crocodile clips - again all via Amazon. I actually put together an Amazon list of recommended accessories, tools and other optional extras - you can get this via the group. By joining, you'll also have ongoing support from myself and the community - I'm not paid by Glowforge but am recognised by them as an "unofficial" group for the UK and have built a close relationship with them so you'll be in good hands. If of course, you're already in the group, give me a shout so I know as there are 600+ others and I can't always keep up with who has joined and who hasn't among those I interact with outside of the group! Anyway, I hope this helps for now, do reach out again anyway you prefer if you need to and I'll get back to you asap!

Hi very good video, I'm also in the uk and thinking of buying a glowforge, Im also thinking of getting the filter to go with it. But if I go for the set up like you (venting out the window) Im wondering how much smoke is emitted and is there a strong smell? I've not seen any footage showing what comes out when vented through the window. I too will join your forum and use your referral link
@artistrobfuller
@artistrobfuller 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Stephen - thanks for watching! In regards to smoke emission, it depends on what you’re cutting/engraving - mdf kicks out a fair bit of residue and smoke as do certain plywood’s due to the glue and acrylic will probably be the smelliest but with little residue. By all accounts I’ve not come across any major issues with smoke aside from a few owners who have had to plump for an internal air filter because they live in built up areas with neighbours literally hanging outside their windows! I’d say, go for the exhaust setup first and then add the air filter if you find it’s not working out for you. That way you’re not investing nearly £1k in something that you may not actually need. I look forward to seeing you in the group, I’ll grant you access when I see you’ve requested it and I also thank you in advance for choosing to use my referral! It really means so much! When you’re in the group, watch the welcome video and download the guide I put together as I think you will find it quite helpful!

@artistrobfuller
@artistrobfuller 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. It’s an entirely manual process so that’s is one negative - I’ve forgotten, only briefly, to turn it in before! Another advantage not mentioned however, is the ability to set different power levels so when I cut mdf it is on high but simple scoring on a piece of plywood o my needs half that amount of power so it’s even quieter. I’m pleased I chose this set up. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment and if you haven’t done so already, so feel free to join my group and also remember to use a referral link to get a big discount when you do decide to go for it!

Hi we just tried the non-proof grade from same place you mentioned but it scorches the bottom what are we doing wrong? Thanks
@artistrobfuller
@artistrobfuller Жыл бұрын
There could be a number of causes so here are some things to consider: 1. Did you mask the material? 2. Is the crumb tray cleaned regularly? - a build up of residue, burnt glue, charring etc can mark the material when you make your cuts via the flashback which can be reduced by cleaning it regularly and using masking tape. 3. Are your power settings too high for the material you’re using? - reducing the power slightly and/or increasing the speed can reduce the amount of scorching. 4. I use a couple of little 3mm offcut circles as risers to make cuts where I want to avoid too much scorching from the flashback eg when cutting acrylic. Just take into consideration the height differential and use the manual ‘set focus’ option each time you cut using this method. 5. It’s most likely that the non pg material, if it’s plywood or mdf, contains more glue in the construction process and therefore will kick out more residue than the higher quality pg material so there will be a noticeable difference to take into consideration. I hope this helps somewhat moving forward.
