Waste Oil burner Flame control and automation.

Күн бұрынFinally I'm back. Thanks to everyone for the support and messages over the years. I hope not to let you down with my future offerings and to grow the channel up to and past 100K subs.
This vid shows how controlling waste Oil Burner air and fuel can make for stable running burners. Drip feed is good and well for short runs when you are with the burner but to run it for many hours without constant adjustment, some automation and control is needed. I use a cheap Pulse type car Fuel pump with an electronic Cycle timer. This is the same principal used by the Chinese diesel heaters and one I showed may years ago in other vids.
By being able to feed a precise amount of waste oil into the burner, variations from oil viscosity and tank level changing are avoided. You can also take the waste oil fuel from ground level which makes handling much easier. The Blower is Controlled with a PWM controller available of Fleabay and other similar sites to match the air output to the fuel pump to produce a constant , stable flame.
I hope you all find this video and the ones to come as entertaining as before and thank you again for all the kind messages of support, concern and encouragement. It was much appreciated and extremely Humbling.
I hope to be doing many more waste Oil, Solar and other videos on a regular basis from now on and improve my content as I get back into the swing of things.

@@glumpy10 I really love the waste oil burner barrel that is a lot of fun for the kiddies i'm thinking about doing a similar project that involves screening out the sparks to minimize any type of injury in case somebody were to get burned by a few sparks my goal is to use something like what's inside of a catalytic converter and put that on a screen of some sort on top of the barrel itself so that way I can still have fun but reduce the number of sparks so that way I don't accidentally start fires just in case it's a bit windy out but anyways cheers to you mate if you desire so by all means feel free to email me railcon5100@gmail.com

@@414RadioTech Don't know what you would use for the sparks that would stand up to the heat. Even Cat Honeycomb would melt I believe. I Picked up a Cat ( off a car, not the type that sits on your lap) some time back and was going to use that for a Vid. Bit of pre heat, bit of oil and off it will go... For 5 Min anyway. There really isn't a lot of sparks with oil and the few there are don't tend to travel because the majority of them are burned before they leave the chamber .

Your comment about Americans using torches instead of matches is so true. I wondered the same thing several years ago. Then I looked around my home. The water heater, gas logs and gas furnace have electronic ignitions. There is ALMOST nothing which requires a match (or a pocket lighter) these days. We do have 6 "six day prayer candles" (candle inside a tall glass jar... ) We use them for emergencies during black outs. Have book matches stored with them but I usually use a 'barbecue lighter' instead. (=Guess I need to buy a torch so I can assimilate with all the *other panty-waisted wusses* ... ) ;^) Only compensation is over 50% of us still own our firearms! BTW, long ago you knew me as "OgMandin0."

Hi Sidney' A nice warm video, I am sitting here frozen in Scotland; Just watching your video has het me up a little. I am working on my Burner just now but I had a let down?. My local garage gave me the free oil he was glad to get rid of it, But? Bloody god damn it was full of water so he is sacked. I wasted two hrs trying to get my burner up and running, But I will come back next week with maybe good news. Take care great entertainment.

If you put the oil in a drum or jerry can, the water will go to the bottom and you can draw the oil, carefully, off the top. Alternately use a drum with a tap on the bottom and drain off all the water by tilting the drum and then you should have dewatered oil.

We have moved and now have great neighbours. I was talking to the Mrs a few months back and I said you were very keen to get out of the other place. She said I was worried you were going to kill the idiot next door. I don't think she was joking. Much different here though.

@Cory Gill Until you go from one to the other, you don't realise what a difference good neighbours can make. I can get away with anything here. Neighbours love me... well so far at least. I look after their gardens while they are away, collect mail and do lawns. Also done some repairs to mowers, lent them tools and done neighbourly things. It's no big deal at all but they go on like I am donating a Kidney or something! No one seemed to like the previous owner though whom from what I gather was a tattle tale and a pain in the backside. When I have wanted to make noise or do something, I have asked apologised and it's been "no problem, do whatever you like" and they even come out and help me do things like burn off etc which isn't exactly Kosher here. It's like paradise compared to the last place.

@Cory Gill My Neighbour was looking after some sheep in the backyard for the local Ag school over the holidays 2 years back. Their Mother got sick so they had to be with her. Few days turned into a month and I was feeding the sheep for them. Trimmed all my overgrown hedges and shrubs and they went though it like no tomorrow. Every day I'd cut a pile and think that will hold them for a while and next morning they would be climbing the fence and calling for more. I took 7ft off over 150M of Hedge and they went though it. I'd go to feed them and the dog and the cat would wander over as well and they would all stand there looking and rubbing up to each other in a very civil and polite way. Hedges need Trimming again but I haven't got my 4 woolly jumpers to feed now. We all missed them when they went back to the school but I saw them at a local Fair a few months back where the school had a petting zoo setup for the kiddies.

Yes, one of the things I most like about the forced air type is they self clean. No matter how much or what type of oil you use, there is never any buildup other than just a Pinch of fine ash which is blown out next time the burner is fired up. The timers add a level of control that elevate the reliability and functionality of these burners.

Ed was very no frills because his skills and knowledge were amazing and he didn't need any gimmicks. I did not know him well but I think like a lot of others he did touch me more than I realised. I wouldn't probably have not got into YT if it were not for him. I think YT owes him a lot for the people he inspired to have a crack and whom joined the platform. I know it's been a while but that was my first chance to say thanks for what he did for me and not let him be forgotten. I have moved now and have fantastic neighbours. So different to where I was before. The other idiots gave me grief but I made sure I gave it to them back 10 Fold. I bet they had a party for a week when I left and after a year their nerves and PTSD probably started to calm down. I have still Haunted them though, a good friend is a local council ranger and the building work they did was shoddy and then they were running an Illegal home business. Done my friend a few decent favours in return for her staying on top of them and giving them all the fair and proper grief she can. They are not too bright but, keep dong the same thing breaking rules and Regulations and copping the same fines and don't learn.

Hi Aussy, Thanks for the update on your oil burner - I am unable to get a Calor Gas Bottle around 19kg. I have made a small burner but no use for the scrapping I had intended to do. My oil feed is just fine I use a gate valve, And feed into a 15mm copper tube. I am just learning how to do a video to post so maybe see my results in the near future.

Welcome back Oil burner :) I can't thank you enough for making your videos, not for just entertainment but you have saved me hundreds of pounds as I now heat my house using your design. I think it would be interesting to find out with greater accuracy as to how much power in kw is actually coming out of these burners. I say this because I think the 10kw per litre per hour is rather on the low side as I am sure much more heat is produced when the air fuel is just right. I mean, if, say the fuel was atomised like a fog when it entered the inlet surely the burn would be much hotter and more efficient and therefore a much higher output than the rough estimates used at the moment ? or would it make little difference considering the amount of heat in the system when the fuel is pumped in ? I am curious because I heat my house using 19kg propane bottle and drip feed oil just as your setup here is shown but I only use half a gallon 4 pints per day, If I turn on the central heating which is gas fired the house will get up to 30 centigrade and I can turn on my oil burner and the house will continue to get hotter using the oil instead of the gas as the central heating will cut out. The gas boiler is a 24 kw system so surely that means most of the heat is pouring out the chimney but the chimney don't get hot which can only mean one of 2 things and that is the kw hours of the system is nowhere near 24 kw or my oil burner is way over ! Either way I am a happy man because of you and I send my condolences for Ed your friend that passed away may he rest in peace, without him you wouldn't have helped me out.

The 10 Kw in oil is the Chemical energy rating. It varys fractional from specific oil to specific oil, Canola, Corn, sunflower etc but it's near as dammit for all of them. From there it's just efficiency of the burner and the losses from combustion to heat transfer. 4 pints is 2.4L, 24Kwh a day. There are endless factors such as efficiency, home insulation, outside temp etc. Pre heating the oil and atomising etc is irrelevant. as long as the combustion is Complete, IE, no smoke, then that is achieved. People talk about heating the fuel but that takes very little energy to get to phase change where it will burn. What would be FAR better would be to pre heat the air. There is much more of it taking much more energy from the burn. I plan to make a burner that captures the waste heat like this in the future. It won't be hotter to any worthwhile degree, Heat is not the key, power is. You get that just by burning more fuel. I don't know anything about gas heating systems only that some are so efficient that the flue temp is under 40oC. That means that pretty much all the heat is going to where you want it. I can only suggest maybe you heater is throttled and does not do the full output all the time? I know some gas burners have turn down and the Turndown ratio, Min to max, is a selling point for some.
