In this video we go through the process of diagnosing the problem with my car via an OBDII scanner, testing the probable Camshaft Position Sensor failure and replacing the part. My vehicle is a 2012 GMC Terrain but the process should be essentially the same on any 2.4 Ecotec engine.
The links:
Exhaust Camshaft Position Sensor - #12655421, genuine GM replacement - amzn.to/2EOKWz7 (affiliate)
Intake Camshaft Position Sensor - #12655420, genuine GM replacement - amzn.to/2BhDU6v (affiliate)
OBDII Scanner - amzn.to/2EuD4W9 (affiliate)
Multimeter - amzn.to/2EQYzy4 (affiliate)
Tools Needed:
Ratchet w/ Extension
8mm socket
10mm socket
Pliers / channel locks
Slotted / flat screwdriver
ODBII scanner (if you want to check your engine codes)
Multimeter (if you want to test the camshaft position sensor)

Not sure if you check old posts, but I have a 2011 Chevy Equinox and I just had to replace these, instead of taking it to a shop "440.00" I was able to buy the parts "29.99 on amazon" and fix it myself within 45 min. thanks so much man

I wasn't expecting it but with this Video I was able Pull the Exhaust Solenoid, clean it, test it (with questionable results) reinstall and after some road testing the code(s) cleared. (Before the testing was able to clear the pending codes, with just a "permanent" P0013 sticking around) So I saved around $30-$100 and time getting the parts. The part I have didn't even look dirty. Screens/Ports looked Good. Oil Level and Condition good too. Don't think I've ever seen Sludge Buildup in this engine but a quick cleaning seems to have done the trick.

Thank you SO much. I could hardy sleep last night worrying about what the problem was. Went to auto zone and got it read and mine was the intake. Watched your video and got it done. This is a great video. I just wish you would update the title. These are intake and exhaust VVT solenoids. The actual cam sensors are on driver's side of the vehicle on front and back of the cylinder head.

You were replacing the camshaft position actuator/solenoid, not the camshaft position sensor, which is located on the sides of the cylinder head at the driver's (left) end of the engine. The links to Amazon actually call these components by their correct name. No complaints on your troubleshooting and correcting the problem, just wrong terminology.

Yes you are right what he changed is called Actuator/solenoid the Camshaft position sensor is different its on the right side of the engine near the battery i found that there are 4 sensor in my 2012 chevy Equinox 1 intake Actuator and 2 Exhaust Actuator and 3 intake Camshaft position sensor and 4 Exhaust Camshaft position sensor thanks for correcting him...

Thank you for this video! Had my sensor replaced by the shop (p0014) a year ago and it was covered under my Warrenty. It was roughly 600.00 bucks that I didn’t have to pay for due to the Warrenty but just a few days ago my engine light turned on again and according to OnStar it’s the same exact issue (p0014) if the part isn’t covered under their parts Warrenty than I’m going to do it myself. Thanks again!

So I'm getting ready to change my oil, and I had a friend a few months ago use a scanner to tell me what my check engine was, because it wasn't a constant thing. It had said it was the camshaft sensor. Anyway, I had gotten to the "mouse nest" part and laughed, because I had paused when you said to remove the cover. When I removed it there was a spot with bits of thread and whatnot near the oil cap area.

Thanks for the Video. Besides breaking the White/Beige Plastic Tab on the Exhaust Value's Electrical Connector (I was expecting it to pull straight out)... after cleaning the Valve and reinstalling/testing the road test cleared the codes so You saved me at least $30-100 in parts. As it seems redundant I'm hopefully I'll have time to find some replacement tabs for the Electrical Connector(s)... Hopefully GM doesn't charge $20 each. Might invest in the removal tool if they do...

@@TheStruggleville Yes I like the new look of these vehicles and I was considering buying a used one. There's a couple of fixes that you can do yourself such as just cleaning out the PCV valve and hose with carburetor fluid, and some people suggest getting a vented oil filler cap that will resolve that problem and keep the rear seal from blowing.

Sounds like its not seated properly. I did this video quite some time ago so the details are fuzzy but it you may want to take the bolt out and wiggle the sensor a bit to see if it will go down any further. Also I believe it has a seal on it, maybe you are missing the seal or sometimes its possible for the old part to leave its seal on the engine and doubling up on the seals can cause a leak.
