If your cruise doesn't work on your fine GM machine maybe this will help. After reading my factory Cadillac manuals and understanding how the transducer works, I felt I would try to explain as I can in layman's terms to aid in better diagnosis of what/where the problem may be. If you're like me, was confusing as hell, yet after understanding, not that bad to diagnose. Several systems at play: mechanical, magnetism, Vacuum, and electronic. When functioning as designed, the system works amazing! there are some variations to these units but the generalities apply to them all at this production run. By all means, if you have a question, please message or comment! As always thanks and subscribe!

I am awed by the people who thought to design and build this mechanism in this particular way! I'm awed by your ability to understand and explain to me how it works. Mahalo!

Excellent video! Just bought a 79 Blazer and while the wife was driving home with cruise control on, the speedometer quit working and the car tried to speed up quickly. The truck had not been driven for a long time (years). She hit the brake pedal and cruise control came off and the speedometer never worked the rest of the trip. I suspect the gear drive got seized up like you mentioned. Thanks a bunch with your explanation, now I know what to look for!

I grew up in that generation that rebuilt stuff. If it came in a box, it came from the deal new. They may have hand reman products, but I never saw one. The original GM-Delco-AC in red “Ham” cans with Red strings pull and unseal the box then get your brushes, points set or distributor bushing. You couldn’t get parts for the cruise module but like you, I have taken them apart and couldn’t help think of the engineers who built a part that had to work as if stuck on, would be bad! Still surprised to how they designed these with some changes over the years. Glad you opened one up to show people the insides and how they worked. I am sure you have seen the light blue plastic signal generator inside the speedo that had a reflective surface for light and photo transistor, before magnet pickups pointed toward the tone wheel on the output shaft. Good video! DK, ASE master since 78 retired.

Caddy shop manual explains them best. ALOT going on in that little transducer and the manual even says to replace unit as a whole if defective. But if ya know how something works a repair can be done.

@@gunterding_performance9558 I changes all the vacuum hoses, but i have a question:when i push the CruiseControl button on the dash, what should be happen on the electrically of the control unit? I have 4 wires. 2 go to the solenoid switch (one of them =GROUND) and then 2 more wires on top. It says :HOLD and ENGAGE. When i press the button inside the car now, nothing happens. I assume that the HOLD should show a 12 volt signal when switching on? and at ENGAGE when I want to increase the speed manually from the car also 12 volts? Or am I missing something.🤔
@ken432111
@ken432111 Жыл бұрын
I think i know a little more, the 2 wires on the bottom of the solenoid is for the dash to let a lamp goes on when the cruise is active. So that leaves only the signals on the wires :HOLD and ENGAGE, i think it woud set to 12 Volt bij activation from the dash. I meassure this but both wires only give GROUND by running engine. Hope you can help me out.

Thanks for explaining this. My 79 K10 has the single button cruise control. I've checked servo and brake dump valve. Not getting 12v at the hold or engage terminal when pressing single button on turn signal. I've checked all fuses in fuse box and all are good. I see 2 connectors to a cream colored module on side of steering column. Wondering when i should get 12v to transducer with my single button cruise control.

No idea on that, id have to look at the shop manual to see. My understanding is around that era most GM style worked relatively the same, some at transducer had a 3 wire terminal for the light and most had 2 wire without light.

Can this work with a drive by cable ls swap?
@gunterding_performance9558
@gunterding_performance9558 Жыл бұрын
As in 'fly by wire' throttle control? short answer: no. Yes one could run a speedo cable to this style and then use the servo to pull accelerator pedal. However if servo was hooked to throttle blade the pcm would prob have issues seeing the blade movement with no throttle change at pedal. Of course could be programmed to work. Lot of hassle. Would be best to just use software update to use the TAC to run cruise.
@claytonhaske
@claytonhaske Жыл бұрын
@Gunterding_Performance I have a l33 in a 2nd gen camaro, with electronic throttle body, and I have all the stuff for the cruise control to work with that application. I was wondering if this system could work on a ls swapped vehicle that originally came with cruise control. I have a 82 sierra that came with cruise control from the factory, and I want it to be able to work with a drive by cable throttle body.
@gunterding_performance9558
@gunterding_performance9558 Жыл бұрын
@@claytonhaske would take a lot of effort, but could. my O6 silverado is fly by wire and uses the TAC and VSS for cruise. Easiest route would be to program the pcm or get one that had the software for cruise. The 82 if cable-less could use VSS yet not sure hooking linkage to throttle will not throw pcm off to see the TPS value change when APP is at idle.
