There’s nothing “green” about battery production
@mnn1265
@mnn1265 8 күн бұрын
Says who? Transitioning to EV vehicles is perhaps not the most "green" endeavor but once we get there all studies demonstrate a drastic reduction in greenhouse emissions. So, you're not really being genuine - developing new technologies always has obstacles to overcome. Same was true with ICE engines but that didn't stop the technology.
@unvaxxeddoomerlife6788
@unvaxxeddoomerlife6788 8 күн бұрын
@@mnn1265 EVs have nothing to do with being green. They are designed for one purpose, killing the used car market. Nobody will buy used ones which means there will always be demand for new cars. It's just corporate capitalism. There is nothing green about buying a new car every five years. It is far greener to buy a used ICE car than a new EV.
@KenSiefert
@KenSiefert 8 күн бұрын
@@mnn1265 A person can either be willfully, or woefully ignorant. Please research the mining techniques for lithium, and when you are done with that, research the battery disposal problem, and when you are done with that factor in the short life of the EV…there’s no environmental win with EV’s, ever.

@mnn1265
@mnn1265 8 күн бұрын
@@KenSiefert Again, you should take your own advice. Developing the new technology certainly has some problems which you discussed. It's willfully ignorant to suggest that battery technology, the real issue with EVs as electric motors have been around forever, and that technology is rapidly advancing. Despite the fact that massive stores of Li have been discovered in the Salton Sea, relatively easily extracted without mining, it's obvious that future batteries will not require such rare-Earth or ecologically destructive metals in the future. Indeed, many of the new technologies currently being developed require no rare earth metals at all and some require not metals period. It's ignorant not to take into account advancing technologies but you have chosen to ignore them for the sake of pinning that label on others. Very disingenuous and irrelevant, scientists and economists have come to the conclusion that we cannot continue to burn fossil fuels the way we do or we will have hell to pay - which is already arriving annually in our climate. You can pretend that the need for alternative fuels is "ignorant" but I think you need to look in the mirror and ask why you choose to ignore the facts?

Thanks for echoing exactly my sentiment on the battery issue... the "mileage" rating on EVs are a TOTAL lie... because the "Range Variation" can go from 100% to approx 1/3 under a full stress load combination... and that's 1/3 of a FULLY charged battery!... Hot, Cold, Passengers, Cargo, Driving Uphill, Highway driving, towing, high capacity chargers, aging 3yrs, 5yrs, 10yrs... basically until they "claim" 1000KM ... It's all bullsh@@ to me...

Same as a gasoline cr. Mileage depends on weather, total cargo, winds, road incline, etc. You need energy tom move an object. If there are oposite forces, you need more energy for getting to the same place. That is why "your mileage can vary"

Drones are actively used nowadays in urban combat too. Having a 4 legged one that is armed, if actually functional is a pretty good idea. And indeed human soldiers may often not be that far away, so reloading it once the ammo runs out should be possible

for hydrogen all you need is to run a fuel cell that splits water into hydrogen and a small enough storage tank that can hold enough hydrogen to keep up with demand. Any gas station could have that. If the gas station has good access to utility power would be a question, but there are fixes for that too. natural gas, ammonia cracking that are easy ways to get around having to store hydrogen in any volume.

There is so much technology involved in producing a compelling EV that it will be hard for any of the legacy automakers to compete. Right now the legacy automakers are not able to compete because they are not vertically intergrated and therefore cannot benefit from economies of scale. Presently it looks like the major legacy automakers will not be able to make a profit on any EV currently in prouction.
