This is basically what Hikaru told him in the interview: use the fact that you are GothamChess, it can be intimidating for others, knowing that if they lose and (high chance) end up in a video, it will be viewed by half a million people, if not more.

I remember Levy talking about his travel expenses when doing his tournaments. Now that his net worth has gone up a bunch, at least the burden of the travel expenses will be less. Hopefully he can overcome that thing he was talking about when his body goes cold from the pressure and anxiety. I remember his friend Eric Rosen commenting on how Levy's ELO went up 200 points after quitting over the board tournaments, so hopefully those 200 points will transfer over to Levy's run at GM again. We are rooting for you Levy!!!!!

☝️This!! @gothamchess, you should also start saying things like 'black takes but should have gone here' and 'D4 also works in white's favor' instead of saying I and HE. Don't focus on the results or the player, just play the position. Het rid of the ego. GM is just an arbitrary title, it does't matter if you win or lose against a GM, IM Noob... Just play the position! There is no screwing up (!), start enjoying your journey.

Wow I am totally following this series of Yours and I love to see the new spirit here, hiding opponents IDs in order to cope with the very reasonable screw-ups when up front against potentially stronger opponents. Hey Levy, I’ve wanted to throw something out there about the mental aspect of this whole thing. I’m your age and I’m launching a business in a couple of weeks around some products I’ve invented. I know you know how hard and stressful it is. There’s a never ending list of things to do and I have no control over the outcome. The only way I get through my 70 hour work weeks is adopting an attitude that the only thing that matters is how much fun I have while I’m doing what I have to do. And I can’t help but think this attitude might be helpful for you. You’re a GM level player when you don’t stress about it. I know this is unsolicited advice, but maybe, just for one tournament, try adopting the attitude that the only thing that matters is how much fun you have playing chess. I mean, it worked for Hikaru, he did it in the candidates and he was half a point off of winning

Fantastic video Levy It’s such a privilege that you share your games and GM quest with us. Absolutely yes, please give us behind the scenes content - puzzles and training etc. I had given up chess years ago until I discovered your content. Once upon a time a I was a mediocre 18 year old club level player who had spent all my time getting to be mediocre. Life emerged as a better option so I completely gave up playing. Back then apart from maybe Kasparov and maybe Nigel Short even top 10 GMs struggled to make more than a teacher. I never missed it once until I stumbled on your videos just after Covid. Then I missed it. Your content is very important not just for you but many of us. It exposes a higher truth: it takes enormous courage to take on a quest in life that is beset by numerous and sometimes insurmountable challenges. That is why the ghouls and haters follow you so closely too. They never had this courage, perseverance and talent to work endlessly on a dream. So instead of routing for you they sneer and make nasty comments.

26:00 I can very much relate to this. I've learned that because of my nerves, it's extremely unlikely I'd ever be able to perform at the highest level in any game. I just make beginner mistakes after pulling off the gaming equivalent of a masterpiece because I crumble under the pressure. Not every time, but often enough I'd never make it in the big leagues. Some of the best players have nerves of steel and it's very much a massive benefit.

Gotham you need to start using positive affirmations even during the game. Stop saying “this is where I mess up” or “my anxiety kicks in”. You’re literally telling yourself to do those things. Try a simple positive affirmation like “I see and play great moves” or whatever, anything that is simple and positive. When you catch yourself saying something negative immediately replace it with your positive affirmation. You got this!

I think seeing your training methods, how you learn and talking us through how to study certain topics, ... would definitely be interesting. I'm on the grind myself, trying to really learn the game and it's subtleties. Would definitely motivate and perhaps give me ideas of where to focus, how to learn, ...

It's super interesting to me watching someone of your level have almost imposter syndrome in the way you play. You are obviously really bloody good at the game and even your coach is like you know openings you get into great positions even against people "better" than you and then you panic, overthink it and collapse. And game 3 in this video is a grate example of you nearly beating yourself, you don't have enough confidence in yourself. I know you have identified these things you have spoken about your anxiety for a while especially in over the board play, but these games could help you have the realisation that you are actually good, you just need to trust yourself and believe in yourself. I hope you succeed dude, I would love it if the GM Levi was no longer a bait - also I just want to say your coach is really awesome I think he's hit the nail on the head with some of the stuff he identified - love the series, love your book. Keep going dude many of us are routing for you!

So good to see you improving so much in such a short time. Very inspiring to players who are also trying to reach the next milestone in their chess career like myself. Keep pushing for that title, man. You'll get it for sure at this rate.

I really love that you found your motivation back (I don't have the full details so I hope it's genuine), It's really smart to embed it with your youtube journey, I usually don't watch all your videos, but I will defenetly follow this series rooting for you and your ego :) I think if people do like me, even if you make less content to train, your channel shouldn't take a hit. I wish you don't burnout or feel too much pressure because of the public nature of your journey. Take care of yourself before anything else! Edit: Now that I have watched the first episode of the series, I repeat what I said before X2! Ahah

Hey Levy. Love this series and your personal review of your own games. I'm wondering if it would help you to log your emotions next to your moves in over the board play (some kind of shorthand maybe?). This was my second thought...My first was if would help to log your emotions/thoughts before you analyzed the games. My thinking is it might help pinpoint/patternize the anxiety you feel in the games...Love the idea of hiding your opponents!

Levy, I love you man. Been watching off and on for years and I have to say that something in you has changed. You're better than you've ever been and I believe you can make GM! You're better than most of them, at the end of the day you only have to beat yourself. Get a mental game coach, your chess is already there. Good luck man, our whole family loves you and we're pulling for you with all our hearts.
