Nothing wrong with Turbo Diesel Commonrail engines at all. They are more effeccient than electric cars. In Europe and UK we have loads of modern turbo diesels. The 1.5 TDCi Focus does 50 mpg with ease and high 50's at cruising speed. They are as you say, nothing like old diesels.

We been asking auto makers in the US for a 4 cylinder diesel vehicle since the 1990s. They have done everything possible to avoid it. They knew if done right it would over shadow all other engine designs. As you can see they have only built 2 so far. 35 miles per hour in a truck is phenomenal. They going all out before electric/hybrids vehicles change the game.

The 2.7L 4 cyl gasser makes more power and almost as much torque as the 2.8L diesel. But GM does offer a 3.0l straight 6 in the full size. That 4 cylinder diesel is far too small for a full size

@@TTime685 yes I agree. However that 2.8L isn't up to the task of motivating a full size truck plus a trailer. Well not well a least. Granted neither would the 2.7l gasser with a really heavy trailer. But as a daily driver the gas would be better in a full size. Keep in mind the 2.7 gas is a base engine. The 2.8L diesel is a premium in the mid size trucks. (Great engine but not designed for full size truck)

@@freespirit1975 On my 2015 2.5l gasser, it is on the passenger side of the engine, I just reach under the truck from the front. It is easy to reach, but I took off the air dam. Otherwise driving it up on ramps would probably be needed for average sized men. The oil plug is on the back/bottom of the motor and hard to see from the front. It is an easy truck to work on...small motor, big engine bay! Sadly, it has only needed a water pump, took me about an hour. :)

At least it's covered under federal emissions warranty for 8 years/80,000 miles, or 15 years/150,000 miles in California and any state that follows CA standards. Since they almost always build to California standards to sell in all 50 states nowadays anyway, they should generally be engineered to last at least 150,000 miles. Repair once to OEM specs, and it should go until at least 300,000 miles. Sure, I like to be frugal, but needlessly making black soot and polluting the air when it's easy not to (at least for the first 150,000 miles) doesn't make any sense. I might have a contrarian streak, but I'm not retarded. ;-)

In terms of the engine, I can't say it's bad but the rest, it was a bad experience.

Its a VM Motori diesel design that is identical to the engines used in mid 2000's Jeep Liberty. If it was an Isuzu design, I'd suspect they wouldn't have issues with cracking pistons and broken valve lifters. The injectors also have had issues with sticking, blowing up engines. However, tuned to about 500 lb-ft of torque, they can be pretty fun to drive and usually haul mail up mountain passes with ease.

My camper is a 20 footer with a toy porch on the rear with an overall length of 30 feet. The only grip I have with the GM 2.8 is the fuel filter system uses a 38 dollar dual cartridge system that is based on both time and restriction. However if my 21 goes 174 K like my 16 then I will be happy.

I have purchased an 04 Chevy Silverado with 8 ft bed to replace my 92 dodge Dakota that had gotten totaled . Yes it needed some minor frame work. But had the welder beef up the frame with an X pattern and replace both cross members. It eventually needed regrounding and a fuel pump ( which one didn’t) 83k with a vortex V6
