In fact, this car has been out for a long time. I am the owner of the Velite 6PHEV and bought it in 2021. I have been driving it for two years now, with a fuel consumption of around 5.8L/100km, and a slightly higher fuel consumption when cruising on the high-speed 120. The official label for pure electricity can be in the form of 60km, but the actual distance is around 50km. In fact, the sales of this car in China are very poor, to the extent that it has been heavily packaged for ride hailing companies. I made the purchase at that time because BYD had to wait in line for six months to pick up the car after ordering, so I chose the Micro Blue 6phev. To be honest, I regret it a bit, but this car is not bad either. The disadvantage is that the l2b engine is too old, and the disadvantage is that the engine noise is too loud! For DMI with BYD in the same price range, the car's operating system is too primitive (compared to BYD), with a very small fuel tank of 38 liters.

That should be the Buick that GM sells analogous to the Bolt, for the entry point of the Buick brand. It looks better than the Bolt, and for $16,000 would sell like hotcakes, just like the Bolt is doing right now. The LFP battery pack would eliminate any of the battery fire concerns associated with the Bolt and its NMC LG batteries.

@@spacemaster5206 Doesn’t matter. Anything car imported from China has Trump tariff overhang. This is the exact reason why Tesla exports their Shanghai factory cars to Europe and not the U.S. The end result is U.S. consumers miss out on better quality Tesla, because the ones coming out of the Fremont factory is absolute shit made. Now that you mentioned it. It’s interesting to note a lot of important parts (like battery) still come from China (CATL, BYD, etc) because even at tariff prices they are still cheaper and better than any alternative 😁

Agreed, it has been a weak point of Tesla for the entire time so far. We need the old small wagon concepts like the Camry, BMW 3 series, Accord, and Corolla. My 93 Corolla wagon was one of the best cars ever. I know Europe got small & mid-size wagons for a lot longer than North America, people here all decided that stupid SUVs were necessary, despite most of them never being used in 4wd mode, and the supposed benefit to being able to see past other vehicles is gone when almost all other vehicles are also SUVs.

After losing an enormous amount of money on the Bolt EV/EUV for years, it really doesn’t make any sense for GM to keep dividing its markets between China and the U.S. What’s the point of these super premium EVs for the U.S. (plus apparently a nod to cheaper EVs like the Bolt). They really need to streamline their worldwide product lines and figure this out or face bankruptcy again. Will they ever learn?

Care to explain WHY that is? I suspect stealerships will be part of that, US over-regulation, but what else? There is a huge difference between "can't" and "don't want to", in the case of OEMs and EVs the latter seems to be the operative mode of thought. And if it's labor costs they could certainly assemble in Mexico where quality labor costs less than in China.

FWD has advantages with ICE cars in terms of interior space. That evaporates with BEVs. And precise control of electric motors negates all that FWD advantage in snow too. EDIT: Reminds me of a Hyundai Ioniq.

@@canadianwatchmonkey3992 Yes, I agree with an ICE vhicle it is absolutely better to have FWD in the event of snow - most Swedish made ICE vehicles have it, for example. But the precise control of electric motors is such that RWD is no longer at a disadvantage. Cars won't even spin out or lose traction. @@ramblerandy2397 I had a 2021 FWD Kona EV in Canada. Front space was fine. It had "Snow mode" which removes the torque which would be bad in snow. I simply had winter tires and no issues in driving it. I think this counters all of your points.

@@ScubaSteveCanada Not sure it actually counters the points I made, but good for you. I've always liked FWD myself and considered a Kona myself. It's just that with electric motors you don't need to feel that you have less control with RWD in slippery conditions, like snow. I'll see if I can find a demonsteation video. Obviously no link because YT will remove it quickly. You'll have to type it in... "How Does the Tesla Model 3 RWD Handle in the Snow with SNOW TIRES" [USA spelling] ? Copy and paste the words within the quotation marks only. This is just one example. I have read around the subject. Traction control and wheel monitoring on BEVs is astounding compared to an ICE vehicle.

Most of GM's current ev offerings require +200 kWh battery packs which is 3 to 4 times what most other companies require per vehicle. Just like their gas guzzlers, they now have battery guzzlers. Take all their Hummer sales (vs preorders), all their Silverado sales (based on pre-orders), all their Escalade EV projections and multiply that by 3-4 and that is how many 60-80 kWh vehicles they could manufacture. Like the late 70's and 80's gas crisis which forced the world into more efficient and smaller vehicles, the change to electric means that efficiency and rare elements is again at the forefront and GM's decision to only build trucks and SUVs locks them in to a business model that doesn't fit well with the reality. An electric pick up truck for job sites makes sense due to the limited mileage and ability to use them to shuttle items on a construction site as well as provide power but they just don't work when it comes to towing or trailering long distance and as daily driver/commuter just consume resources for a vehicle that doesn't really offer and advantage over a large sadan/sportback. Ford also has the same issue to some degree and if you look at what models are successful from Tesla, China and Europe, the decision to not build cars is now showing it's frailty.

GM and the rest of the US car market have no interest in making inexpensive cars anymore. The lower tier of cars for most people in the US is now Used cars, not new. New cars going forward are for the rich or well-off middle class. This is the new business model going forward for the next 20 years at least in the US. Everything points to this being fact- new trim levels going up, technology being necessary by supply and demand, factories being slowed down or stopped to decrease production and keep prices high, etc etc. The US car market is ruled by the dealer business model who own the politicians and dealers are demanding high Trim levels and expensive cars with huge profits. Cheap Chinese cars will not be coming to the US anytime soon whether as built or in kit form.

An absolutely epic move would be if they "subbed out" their manufacturing in America to a "new company" and started building EVs in a red state with lower cost of living and more business friendly and build without a union like Tesla but unfortunately they will probably head towards manufacturing in Mexico, which might work well for Tesla because they have better control over their proprietary alloys and manufacturing but unfortunately I don't think GM could maintain the same quality control

they don't do this because they don't want to. Manufacturers want to profit as much as possible. That is their goal. All manufacturers. So each and every one of the legacy car makers are doing everything in their power to not sell affordable cars. They may have underhanded deals with each other but in fact the core capitalist rule sets them on this path. Maximize profits. If they were to start selling cars at fair price, affordable, then they will make less money. So the prefer to bitch and whine and not be fair to customers and not making any cars sales instead of selling many cars for low profit. Remember they don't need money, they are wealthy corporations so they'd rather not sell instead of altering the current pricing levels. ... A base model tesla model 3 without the roof, the leather, less power and thus smaller battery, no more cameras and thus fsd hardware would sell with same profitability as the M3SR with 30.000 usd or less (tesla list price, not considering any incentives) A smaller tesla with this basic trim would be sold for similar profitability with 20-22.000 usd. Tesla is the top dog in EV world, best efficiency and performance per kw. So any of the nobodies like GM, and the rest of the legacy car makers, would need to sell a similar size and spec vehicle for at least 15% less than a tesla. So, this velite 6 would be selling for like 15.000 usd. They don't want that. 25.000 for this steaming pile of garbage is too much., let alone 35.000 as you suggest.

I remember when the "new Malibu" came out using a Chinese wire harness, I would see mechanics fire the parts cannon at them replacing sensors which would fix them for a little while but so would just unplugging the sensor and moving the wire harness and plugging it back in, then we got hit with the China engines that would be lucky to make it 100K. All the reputable wheel bearing manufacturers started moving manufacturing to China and they became absolute junk. I own a lot of nice high quality stuff that was made in China but I wouldn't want a car from China.

When the Japanese first shipped cars to NA they were the same, junk. Chinna has come a long way in building cars, and today builds some of the best electric cars on the market. BYD and other manufacturers should ship their cars to the states. Even with a 27% tariff, they would still be competitive with ICE cars. In Thailand the Chinese EVs are the same price or cheaper as their ICE competition and come with all inclusive 8 year 160,000 km warranties.
