As a intermediate player at 8:59 you hit it on the head this helped me with my overall understanding of chess theory and whys and do’s and don’ts. Hikaru you are so fuckin galaxy brain! 🧠

I have been playing for quite some time now and memorised some openings because of the mistakes that I've made, but i never understand these consepts as a whole. Thanks for this video and its pretty great. If anyone has some recommendations for some structural educational content or books feel free to comment friends.

@Black Swan55 i am 22 and i used to play like when i was 13 14 went to some local clubs and then i just quit didnt enjoy it anymore. Now i started to have fun again and learning about it also seems fun to me.

Btw, the book is for intermediate players not for beginners so you might not find it so useful at your level

I personally think that these 2700+ Games are super interesting. They make best moves most of the time but they are not as good as engines and they also make blunders every now and then.

@Vishnu MRV At 1000 you're just barely starting to learn basic tactics and don't have a real baseline of principle and understanding yet. Not much 'pureness' in just blundering a piece in 1 move. Why in my opinion 2000-2400 is the 'purest' form is chess is because those level of players have a very good understanding of the game, but not to the near perfect level of 2700+ so there is a lot of room to be CREATIVE where in 2700+ it would just be considered an egregious risk. It's much more of a 'just play the game' approach after getting out of around move 10.

Chess at the top engine level feels like the purest chess to me since it doesn’t really get much better than 3500 elo cyborgs calculating the strongest possible moves and trading brilliancy that we can never achieve
