Hey Librarian! A little spooky event you missed was when you enter the mannequin room in the bunker, you can hear the hatch to the surface close around 21:21. If you go back and check it’ll be locked and it won’t open until you go back in the mannequin room which you can hear at about 22:16. Just an interesting thing I wanted to point out!

3:22 That reminded me of that one r/nosleep story. OP was supposedly given the opportunity to volunteer for an experiment with time-travel for a hefty sum of money. He was there with two other people and when they were sent about 2 minutes or hours (can't remember anymore), instead they were as though transported to a completely different dimension. They found themselves in this weird empty dark house and when they looked out the window, they'd find literal nothing. Like the nothing you "see" before you are born. The nothing the blind experience. One of the three stared out seemingly for hours, claiming to see shapes. It drove him mad and took the risk of leaving the house through the door, leaving OP and the woman behind. The experience was described to be going on for centuries. The kind of while you experience when you sit at work and between each look at the clock, you feel as though hours have already passed. OP caught a look at the window at some point, telling us that he began to see the shape of a tree constantly expanding in the nothingness until he snapped out of it to see the woman in hysterics, explaining to him that it's been hours since he even moved. But eventually they used it as a way to pass the time faster and eventually, they managed to get out. The grayscale look of the landscape reminded me of that nothing, and you admitting that you've been staring out at it for about 5 minutes already when all we saw was a cut was truly reminiscent of it. Additionally, at 31:16 I really recommend muting the video and playing "Exile, Vilify" from Portal 2 to it.

When I saw the stones I instantly thought of it as a burial site. The cup was maybe the deceased' favorite? I think they would stack stones bc it was readily available pretty much anywhere, and could last a long time if done well. There could be religious or spiritual implications as well.. perhaps to keep the dead from returning and escaping through the earth. Same vibe as burying the dead laying face down.

Man, this map brought up a long buried dream in my subconscious with a similar landscape. Me & some friends were traversing this run down city with bare concrete buildings just like in this map. We were kind of fucking around outside & then decided to explore inside one of the buildings. The interior was nothing but bare concrete hallways with weak incandescent lighting being the only source of light inside. We decided to open one of the doors & what we found inside stuck with me forever. The room wasn't very big & it was lit up by a single failing flickering light. The center of the room though had a faceless bloody humanoid figure chained to a chair & it screeched so fucking loud while spazing around violently in the chair. We ran the fuck out of that building & after that it just kind of fades. Needless to say, this map made me extremely jumpy while exploring it.

Hey Librarian, any chance we could see a Myst playthrough? It's arguably the first creepy/comfy game there was and I'd love to see your take on it after all these years.

I think it would've been hard to make in hammer, but the map creator should've made a figure move out of your vision in the ash wastes. How you see objects coming closer to your vision on the very outskirts of the fog, there should've been a single silhouette that immediately moves out of your fov in the fog when it barely comes into view. Occasionally disappearing from the right and from the left like it's following you, and at times, even getting closer. Something to make the player feel a lot less safe in the wasteland. All hints from the structures come to a conclusion of a biblical type event doing something to all the inhabitants, now hinting the same is going to happen to you. Liken it to the creepypasta "The Pyramid: Ashen" where (spoiler) the archeologist who opened the forbidden tomb is killed and damned to roam the desert, being followed by the abomination representing death, genocide, and sickness; as where he is dehydrated and starving for all eternity, every body of water turning into a thick, viscous, and neasueating oil when consumed. There's a lot of good potential for environmental storytelling with this map. All signs point to it being a dead world conquered by some awful paranormal event that hasn't yet left it alone. Now and unfortunately, you find yourself in the ash wastes, possibly the last one left, temporarily spared from being cursed to watch the ashen wastes or the same four dark walls from the inside of a bunker for all of eternity as a very conscious and very aware mannequin.

im sorry but the event at 16:34 looked like a wide grin of some kind moving back into the shadow and i did not like it one bit

That event was something, different for sure. I’ve never really gotten creeped out from a gmod map, but this one was constantly eerie from the beginning as soon as the first building was entered. At the beginning it felt lonely, like there wasn’t a living soul there. Still lively for some reason though. After that event the entire atmosphere changed to a constant feeling of anxiety, with actual fear and dread too.

Kind of reminds me of the Pygmies Throne in Dark souls 3, the final area of that game.

Random question: How do you turn in VR? Do you turn your body in real life or use the controller to turn? I get a bit motion sick from playing in VR and am just wondering how others move without getting sick. :D

I almost always turn my body. Turning with the stick definitely causes motion sickness for me.
