Inspired by real locations, MSSC has been built from the ground up as a realistic urbex experience for Garry's Mod. Also, it was created by me, so that's a first!

now its time to send to lucia to create a haunted version of this and send back to librarian to check out. The feeling of knowing a location but not what's inside would be a nice thing to play with.

Something that I like is that the number of possible entry points for this map's main building can vary depending on the addons you have. Stuff like addons that alter your player model's attributes (height, width, jump height, movement speed, etc.) and even parkour mods.
@TheLibrarianYT
@TheLibrarianYT Жыл бұрын
Excellent point! I actually messed around a bit with Wheatley's Parkour mod. I found you could pretty much just climb up and over the back wall, so it was too easy for my taste. However, it did lead me to create a variant of the opened windows that the player can fit through, so those are probably accessible with parkour mods.

Yeah, I parkoured over a wall instead of piling up crates HL2 style like I was “supposed” to do. The cool thing was it just made things faster and didn’t ruin the experience since there are so many ways to get everywhere. I also opened that first locked side door with a sonic screwdriver-I guess it wasn’t deadlock sealed. I found the restored room and the attic, and got jump scared in the latter. I missed the supplies outside of the former, though, and just assumed it had somehow avoided all the ruin that had befallen the rest of the building. This is sort of stupid though because I am renovating an old house in real life, and should have realized what was going on. I also found the Hail Satin graffiti, and chuckled because I did that (deliberately misspelling “Satan” in graffiti) when I was in college (it was on an art wall specifically dedicated to graffiti, rather than in an abandoned building). I missed the pentagram though. I wonder what the “events” were? I would have liked to have seen them.

Concerning the picnic bench in the elevator. I imagine things like that happen in stages over a long time, by multiple people. Imagine this scenario: The hospital has just closed but there is still a lot of stuff inside it. Perhaps a liquidation crew is in charge of moving out items that could be sold or otherwise reused somewhere else. With a building of this size this would be a big project so the crew would have a designated "collection point" somewhere, most likely near an entrance. Moving a picnic table inside to serve as a place for the crew to eat lunch without being rained on makes sense. Or they could be using the table to store their equipment. Years pass, the table remains. It gets moved around a bit by explorers. Maybe some explorers get caught by security and security uses it to barricade the entrance. Explorers get in anyways and make sure the table can not be used as a barricade by shoving it into the elevator shaft. So security ramps up the barricade efforts by using a massive chunk of immovable concrete. This is making a lot of assumptions, of course.

I love how passionate sounding he is about this map, not that he's isn't like that in other maps, but this one just feels different. It's like a more grown-out version of going over to a friend's house as a child and listening to them as they take you through a tour of their lego collection. Some of it is taken from other things, clearly, hard to remove the stickers from every little piece, but at some point the sets were partially stripped apart and combined into something wholly their own for them to ramble about. Not totally sure where I was going with that metaphor, but the map is absolutely wonderful!

2:18 I'd like to argue that why most urban exploration/abandoned building maps usually have the front door unlocked or is very open, is because they allow the player to write their own stories. The player can just add a setting to how they'll play the map because garry's mod is a sandbox game that has no rules in what you do, usually maps that are more restricted are story oriented maps with cut scenes and all. Players can lock or block some doors, but if the door is already blocked in the base map, it can lead to less freedom. But in the end, the map maker has the final say on how the map will end out.

The bank reminded me of something absolutely ridiculus I found once. Was exploring an old house here in my home city of Mönchengladbach in Germany, three stories tall and one awesome old attick that was halfway caved in and open to the air. (that sadly, like a ton of other stuff has been torn down in the last few years to make space for new construction) And while rifling through the stuff there I came across a 40 kilogram (like 88 pounds) manhole cover. But the best part is the following. Some citys here in Germany like to do eloborate branding, and that specific manholecover was one of the fancy ones you can find in Colonge´s inner city. So someone, at some point, had stolen a Manhole cover in Colonge, transported it 40 miles to here, and then it ended up on the attic of a three story building that had been abandoned for like 25 years. It´s just amazing, and to this day I am puzzled over what chain of events lead to it ending up there.

If I had my way (and Source wasn't already at its limit on some things) I'd make it an entire campus just so the tunnels could have more use lol. But there's so many problems due to starting with no knowledge of Hammer that I think starting fresh on a new project would be the best thing.

I once had the idea to make a map (I think in a Far Cry map editor, not G-Mod) where the ground level was super high and the majority of the map would be in a pit with a big metal grate and some tunnel systems or something. I raised the ground level, dug a hole, and put in a metal grate. I never went back or made any more progress.

I’d love to see something like that in Unreal 5. Have the sun move in real time and the lighting change, all powered by Lumen. Stupid amounts of detail with Nanite and the Megascans library. Multiple buildings (and vast amounts of surrounding countryside). It is amazing what computer game tech can do these days, but still it is also amazing how good Source can look given how old it is. I remember when HL2 came out being blown away by the graphics. Then again, the same could be said for HL1 back when it was new.

I'm halfway through the video and I just wanted to say I really wish I lived where you do and knew other people who enjoy Urbex. Where I am there aren't that many abandoned places nearby. When I did manage to get a few people to go with me they chickened out on the first floor of an old hospital. The only times I really got to explore was with my dad and brothers in Vallejo. It's a city a good distance away that has a huge abandoned docks area used during I think WWII. There are abandoned worker barracks, docks, warehouses, bunkers, the works. Most of what you showed here is very accurate to what we saw. Exposed pipes where people (primarily drug addicts as the city has a problem with that, so if you decide to explore there do it in the day and not alone) stripped the buildings of copper. There was this small building that we used to drive by to our usual exploration place. After one 4th of July, we passed by its burnt out shell. Homelessness is also a big problem for the state in general, so we would come across an old camp once in a while. I haven't been back there to explore in years, ever since we stopped going to the Six Flags that is there. It was fun while it lasted. These explore videos and your Urbex videos are what give me my fix nowadays.

I played the map before watching the video, I used entrance one and got the cough scare and carried horror baby throughout a big chunk of the map before leaving him on one of the mattresses before going into the basement. I also found the cozy area in the tunnels because I was curious after I did the rest of the map and was doing a noclip run. This map taught me something about myself; i am oblivious as hell. I went into that renovated room and thought "that's a nice lamp" and left without realising it looks pristine compared to the rest of the place until I watched the video. Also such a tiny minor story thing I thought to myself: those two chairs on the roof area, I looked at those and thought "these were clearly two broke people trying to have a romantic date with what little money they could pull together to buy a few bottles of alcohol as they chatted and watched the sunset". It's a really cute thing in my opinion. I'm tempted to maybe draw a scene similar. I had a great experience with this map and I enjoyed it very much. Thank you librarian!

I assumed that the people on the roof were drinking the beer and shooting things, probably mostly just empty bottles, thrown as makeshift clay pigeons. I don’t know why-there were no shell casings, empty ammo boxes, etc. But it was what I thought, and I tried to follow in their footsteps but alas could only drop the bottle, not throw it.

When i enetered through the tunnels, i was on edge abit as this was my first time exploring this map, i heard a voice saying " do you have my hand?" And i jumped in my seat. And i went into the building conpletley blind not knowing the story behind it. 10/10 every corner i turned made me feel full of unease and the fear of something popping out, i also opened a stall with a scary face graffiti and that also put me on edge, when i found the pentagram i felt like i shouldnd be there, i explored all floors and also found evidence that homeless people lived there, i found a room that was in pristine condition and that just gave the place a whole different vibe.

Plus, I also really like the concept of 'what was' and 'now is'. Also, I really like exploring abandoned type maps on Garry's Mod, and it's a shame that the workshop has plenty of abandoned maps that never get to see the light of day. My man, first of all congrats on the release, I love your dedication. I would like to give some advice if you don't mind. Please work a bit more on texturing, because the tiling on some things like stairs and walls looks too repetitive. I would shift the texture ever slightly or reverse it completely to achieve variety effect. Secondly, you've got tons of highly expensive photo and video equipment, so you could make use of that by doing photogrammetry. Some scans from the location would be a great addition to spice up the place and some scans might be used for draft modelling and getting everything as close to reality as possible. I'm on your discord group so you can ask anything about photogrammetry and modelling if you need help. Thank you for sharing.

Technology, clothing, & toys that can be dated to a specific decade, photographs, souvenirs, notes from school, mail from relatives, paraphernalia from work, canned foods from discontinued brands, calendars with notes, a horrendously overgrown garden & greenhouse that you can tell used to be really nice, VHS & cassette tapes, books, medicine, hobby stuff, mail, bills, receipts. etc. But it would be a ridiculous amount of work.

With the inclusion of that Easter egg room at the end of the tunnel (the one with the skeleton), you’ve captured the feeling of a dream I had as a child that has stuck with me ever since. I had this dream of a giant elongated building. I didn’t know what the purpose of the building was, but the best description I can give is that it was akin to a massive multistory car park. Though, by any reasonable calculation, it was easy to tell that, by its massive proportions, housing cars was not what it was used for. I began exploring the building. Floor after floor, room after room, it was dilapidated. It was clear that years of exposure had taken its toll. Then, suddenly, I stumble across this one room that was organized, and well kemt, with obvious signs that life had recently been there, as if it were set up for me to find. It was surreal. Ever since then, I’ve been fascinated with the idea of exploring dilapidated buildings, with the appearance of total abandonment, and then suddenly stumbling across an organized room, untouched by the decay of the surrounding building, with signs that someone was living there. This is map is probably the closest I’ve come to actually experiencing one of my dreams.

I played this wonderful map before watching the video as intended, and I gotta say that the restored room was the scariest thing that you could've put in this map. I came across it as one of the last things, and it was genuinely terrifying. No jumpscare or graffiti or enemy would be anywhere near as chilling as a perfectly pristine room in a completely wrecked building... Also, the free candy was successfully unnerving, since I actually turned right when I first entered. I was surprised by there actually being candy, and then when I turned to leave I saw the mannequin watching me, knowing that if it was a real threat I would've been screwed. Disturbing! I love it when maps have this much attention put into the details, a map doesn't have to have Ultrarealistic graphics to be realistic. Keep up the good work librarian.

Amazing map, something I really liked that I don't think you discussed was the half open doors everywhere. It seems most source maps don't take advantage of that but that really helped sell it for me. Great work!! love your content :)

Congrats on finishing your map, Librarian. You've most definitely got the knack! Also as someone who has done a lot of urbex in the UK, I can certainly identify with the way you describe your experiences. Especially the challenge of finding a way into a place.

Just finished exploring this map this very morning and i had zero clue that you made this map. it was an absolute masterpiece with great layouts and a very spooky feeling of you feeling watched. "She's up there" spooked the bell out of me. Also, the long, low ceiling tunnel did too. great stuff as always

absolutely adored this! i'm so glad i actually stopped to explore the map myself before finishing the video- i did manage to find the attic easter egg on my own! i'd made note of the arm earlier and was so excited to run back underground and grab it as soon as i saw the piano setup. i got the event in the third floor graffiti room also, and even knowing there weren't any proper jumpscares in the map it still made me freeze up for a bit :"P

I just got done exploring your map, the majority of it that is. I know there are a few small areas that I missed. Very very well done and well designed seeing as how it was just u making the map. I will admit I was caught off guard a couple of times by those hidden mannequins. Its funny I play on an ultrawide monitor and the majority of the time I had I small circle in the middle of my screen that my flashlight lit up and the rest was black. I thoroughly enjoyed this map.
