Always online doesn't even stop the piracy. They always find a way to patch the pirated game to play offline.

I personally refuse to buy any Ubisoft games for this exact reason. If I payed for a product, some corpoation being able to just yoink it away on a whim or because I don't have internet, is absolutely unacceptable. Microsoft, don't you dare go down this same path. I REALLY hope this isn't a thing with at least Java Minecraft, as it still holds a special place as one of my first ever video games (but then again lately I've been playing more Vintage Story, which is basically Minecraft but better so...)

The infuriating thing about Minecraft is that using MultiMC I can, in fact, launch in offline mode... except that for some reason XBox Live being down made MultiMC forget my account, and to re-add it I had to reauth. Very cool.

The funny thing is that 3rd-party Minecraft launchers still allowed you to play the game offline, while the official launcher simply blocked you out from playing entirely.

The service authentication isn't even a valid excuse either. Steam still authenticates your accounts if you're offline and allows you to play the games you bought. Hell, EA did too back in the day with Origin. It was more annoying since you had to reinput your login credentials, but it validates that it's one of the saved logins on the device and lets you play the damn game. Can't do that anymore with the EA app which is dumb, but not this shit with Xbox is even worse. It's no wonder why they lost/gave up on the console war, it's because they're too stubborn to give up the always online crap that ruined the launch of the Xbox one.

I hate how companies wanna make stuff Always Online for anti-piracy reasons when anti-piracy has LITERALLY BEEN AROUND BEFORE THE INTERNET. Like, just let me play Celeste or whatever, I don’t even have a current generation “big 3” console anymore and this stuff makes me wanna buy these consoles LESS.

This is LITERALY what we were warning about when Microsoft rolled out the XBOne with it's "always online" DRM back in 2014.

i couldn't play OFFLINE through CurseForge because the LAUNCHER needed a wifi cnnnection to Microsoft's servers..... i was so close to force booting past the launcher through File Explorer just because how BS that is. also PLEASE jailbreak these consoles. these bitches do not deserve the money anymore until they start putting out the good shit.

Its funny that you mentioned Minecraft because just yesterday after finally being able to afford a decent PC I finally got to play Minecraft and immediately after I bought it the servers crashed so I had to wait 7 hours to play a 15 year old game I just bought.

I somehow managed to avoid this entire thing by being a no-lifer who logged onto my xbox super early, I was so confused seeing my friends on discord complain about not being able to log in😭

As someone who doesn't have home internet atm full offline functionality is a must. I can play any GameCube game on my Wii, for free and without a direct internet connection anytime I want. A nearly 2 decade old white slab is worth more to me than the best of the modern age. That's not to dog on modern gaming, I love Sonic Frontiers and have been having a good time with TotK. Point is if I can only play something offline, why would I buy it when it can't be played offline. Especially if I have alternatives already set up and ready to go.

This even affected one of my friends yesterday, we were getting ready to play valorant, but he couldn't login because his valorant account was connected to his xbox account. This is why you never connect anything from other platforms to an account on a console unless you really want to bite the bullet and play it on there.

About the data cap, Egypt is a prime example, The cheapest internet plan, which comes around 120EGP without taxes, only gives you 140GB and, the speed is capped at 30 Mbps, the most expensive, coming at around a 1000EGP without taxes only gives you a Terabyte, with a speed cap of 100 Mbps, Which is a lot of money considering many people earn below minimum wage (6000EGP a month)! And, if your internet runs out, either pay for an extention or, stop using internet for the remainder of the month; There's no option for unlimited data!

The minecraft issue was about logging in, not playing offline it wouldve worked if you were logged in but it just wouldnt let you (if my internet is off completely but i logged in before that it wouldve worked)

I was mad. It was while I was playing a gamepass game that was entirely singleplayer. I bought it recently because I really liked it. The game was still running in the background but I couldn’t play it nor stop it. And once it was all sorted I lost a couple hours worth or progress. And it guaranteed my next gaming rig will run on Linux

The servers arent down forever and they dont go down all the time, it was for 7 hours and people started freaking out

If your internet is out, you can still play Minecraft. The authentication servers were down, so they couldn't tell if you owned the game at all.

The only up side to this is that I finally started my 3rd Don't Fear the Reaper run when I couldn't play anything else.

the minecraft launcher DOES allow offline play but only if it detects you arent connected to the internet, so to play when the servers are down you have turn off your internet on your pc so it lets you in

The reason you need internet for minecraft specifically bedrock edition is because when you’re signed in friends joining is on by default so it puts you into a online game

if it's feasible, companies should invest in emergency servers that can last a little while until the main ones are fixed, i dunno if it works that way but it'd be a good thing to have

I was able to play Red Dead Redemption 2 a lot yesterday when the servers were down.

Yeah I contacted Microsoft support about the ordeal and had my codes manually stored on my PC locally. I basically own a phys-digital copy of Minecraft bedrock and java edition (with update compatibility) using a 16-digit code known as a game license key. I usually keep that stored in my documents folder.

I got really mad in my discord servers I was like "oh boy i cant wait to PLAY THIS MINECRAFT MODPACK. IT WOULD BE TERRIBLE IF XBOX WENT DOWN AND MY SINGLE PLAYER GAME I BOUGHT BEFORE IT CAME OUT ON THE 360 STOPPED ALLOWING ME TO LOGIN."

2:20 there's also throttling, which decrease the download speed after a certain amount of data used, thankfully in brazil it's actually regulated so no internet provider can throttle your internet speed after certain amount of data used, one pretty big provider here tried doing it and got shafted so yeah, the internet might not be the fastest but the providers legally can't screw you over
