Great breakdown. It is always good to examine the plays and decision making separately from the game outcome. I think I learned as much about Richardson as I did about Mertz in this breakdown.

I agree. I know a lot of work goes into making these videos, but I could easily watch 2 or 3 hours of this. You do a really great job of breaking things down in a way that an average fan can understand. Gator radio needs to hire you as color commentator. Back in the day with Mick and Scott I would mute the TV and listen to the radio during games.

Love his mechanics and the belief in his arm. He made a lot of very difficult throws on challenging down and distances. His run game behind him is going to be one of the best in the conference. If he can just be solid, it will open up the run game that much more. His play action fakes are going to give teams fits because, with Florida's RBs that fake has to be respected. I believe his mechanics and moxie are top shelf. Can he learn how to play the position correctly? I think he can. Great video!

I feel Florida took Mertz cuz they see his potential in our style of offense, even though Lagway the perfect fit especially from a mobility standpoint I believe Mertz could come out good if he plays within himself\the system and not try to do too much!

Early in the season, Mertz was the 3rd most efficient QB in the Big Ten. He will do better at Florida if they play to his strengths and call plays that keep the defense guessing, as the Badgers did against Northwestern.

Scheme wise, the plays need to be succesful at protecting Mertz, he does the best in those scenarios. (as do most qbs) Plays need to be clean to read post snap, as he seems to excel pre snap but he can struggle on postsnap.

Excellent as always. I feel quite a bit better about our prospects after seeing this analysis. Mertz is nowhere near the worst QB in the SEC. He might actually be pretty darn good with a running game and some promising young receivers.

Let's ask the question this way. Do you see Mertz being a plus, minus, or equal in comparison to Anthony Richardson? Richardson made some dynamic plays last year, but he missed a ton of the simple things that could've made the offense more productive.

AR's ceiling is unmatched but he struggled with inconsistency. (He has also only played 13 games) I would rather have AR this year than Mertz bc of that ceiling.

Kind of a lazy way of looking at it. Yeah there are better athletes in the sec but the film shows he does some good things that could be replicated against any team. Pre snap reads and ball placement for example. What worries me is the turnovers and the overall boom or bust style he has but there are some good things to take away from this film if you look at it objectively

@@Sue_me347 he's going be dealing better pass rushers, better pass coverage, and better defensive coordinators eager to exploit his weaknesses. Less time to throw + tighter windows does not bode will for any QB. the record isn't all on mertz, florida still has depth problems on the o-line, and is only returning 2 WR with more than 10 catches. it's not like he's being plugged into a powerful passing attack. the young RB's looked good, but the running game was also non-existent at times last year, and who knows how much of the success on the ground (or in the air) came from the threat of Richardson keeping the ball (which Mertz doesn't bring AT ALL, literally negative rushing yards every season) not to mention the lack of d-line depth, and youth in the secondary, new defensive coordinator..

@@acct5910 yeah it’s easy to hyper focus on negative aspects of the team from last year as if improvement from year to year doesn’t happen. Here’s a crazy theory, what if the players that we have returning actually get better? Progression does happen in cfb. We haven’t even had a spring practice yet and you’re already deeming every position group to be ineffective. Bottom line is this video is about graham Mertz and you message board posters are very easy to spot. It would be nice if you acknowledged things from the actual video posted as opposed to bringing the typical message board hot takes. The guy worked hard on this video and all you come over with is “6-6”.

Anthony Richardson has NFL athleticism with a sophomore in progress arm. Mertz is undecided and has potential to be very good with a team that can support him.

94 minutes to say Mertz is a terrible college QB. This guy played in the worst P5 division, Wisconsin plays no one OOC and he was still terrible. Good luck if he's the starter.

I am sure that Mertz is "sliced bread", lol..........yet, IF his stats are worse than "Rimfire" Richardson, you lizzards have trouble ahead. There is a reason Wiskey was happy as hell to offload Mertz.....and KENTUCKY passssssed on him ; ) See you in Lexington! Looking forward to it - 3 in a ROOOOOWWW!!!!
