@@toxicgnome8445 if you really want to get to know him there's a guy called Justin Hawkins who is in a British band called the darkness. He also does a podcast type thing on you tube called Justin Hawkins rides again. He has a fantastic interview with Ren which is very in depth, very informative and gets a bit emotional at points. Ren has been through Hell and back with physical and mental illness. It's well worth a watch.

You are a brave one. It took me MONTHS ( and literally ~100 views+ reactions) before I could process anything more. Even then I watched The Big Push busking sessions and Money Game 1&2 - and was just like WTF with the range of talent . I got cocky one night and watched Chalk Outlines and How To Be Me . I was wrecked. The came time for The Tales… SO much to unpack, almost too much. But after having watched so much of Ren and having seen - how much he’s been through, what a generous artist, friend, and band mate he is - I was really thrown when he was Screetch. Not at all for the profanity but for the anger and aggression that came out of him/ REN- as it was really counter to his true self. Even in some of his shorts or IG stories his anger at the situation and the time he missed “ living “ -that his health robbed him of, he’s fighting back tears. It’s further proof that not only does he possess a genius intellect and artistry, he is also very high on the EQ scale. We see this very much in Violet’s Tale. His facial expressions tell you what he’s telling you… without actually telling you.

Ren said that some of Violet’s character came from a loved one who had faced domestic violence, but all 3 songs are fictional & were written & filmed a couple years apart. He started with Screech, based loosely on a newspaper article, then Jenny, then brilliantly pulled them together with Violet. 💜

Welcome to the Ren roller coaster! Ren’s genius is undeniable, and an interesting note about his guitar playing, is that he learned to play from watching KZfaq videos. He’s crazy impressive. There are some great interviews that he’s done with a few different reactors. Highly recommended. He’s an independent artist, is incredibly appreciative of the reaction community and his fans. We are all in for the ride! 🙂

Yes he lives in Brighton, a seaside town, but how absolutely perfect was the sound of the seagulls ? They came in at exactly the right moment and added the precisely perfect haunting sound effect that made this song even more sinister than it surely already was ! Serendipity at its gut-wrenching best !

What amazes me is what happened in my brain when I first saw this ending, and what I see in you reactors. The concurrent thoughts and feelings responding ALL...AT...ONCE... to the tragedy of the story itself, the twist at the end (and our brain trying to fill the gaps of the story as quickly as possible), the awe and joy at the creator and his skill and imagination - no wonder our brains feel like exploding - literally can feel emergency multi-tasking but just turning into a neurological berserker moment lol

{* YEAH... Probably should come with a 'Trigger' caution for: survivors of street crime, domestic violence and first responders! } This Masterpiece Trilogy is really aimed at the 'rest of us'- those who haven't lived through it. Ren is not only a mega-talented Creative Artist and Storyteller, he's also a powerful Social Commentator. He doesn't introduce these challenging themes for shock value, he's making a statement. His skill brings us right into the frame as if we are not the audience any more, but stand as 'witness'. He wants us to Care about these characters. He says; DON'T look away from this. Don't simply murmur cheap platitudes like " Oh what a shame..." and then click away to the next news item. We DO know, very well, the pathways that lead innocents like Jenny, Screech and Violet toward becoming victims and / or perpetrators. Why aren't we doing more to stop these crimes, these tragedies?!

Here's the origin story of this trilogy 🤩😁🤯 This wasn't originally a trilogy story. Ren read a small article about a 14 yr old boy killing a young prostitute with a knife in an attempted robbery. Knife crime had been skyrocketing in London at this time. Later that same evening the boy had been shot and killed by the police responding to a possible suspect for a girl found murdered in Sussex Gardens in Paddington - one of the capital's most notorious red light districts. It disturbed him, so he set out to write a commentary not just on senseless violence, but on how desensitized we've become to it. The words he ends both Jenny and Screech's Tales with is "It's such a Shame" we say these words all to often and just move on without a second thought. The the lead inspector was quoted saying " So Young, It's such a shame". Violets Tale was written over 2 years later adding another layer of commentary by Ren. He wanted us to consider not only generational violence but to make us look at all angles of society that we turn a blind eye to. His lyrics have even more meaning when you read in between the lines. For example he doesn't say what Jenny was doing or why she wanted to escape from this place & life, or why Screech thought she was older saying at Patrick's door "I left this lady lying on the floor". Could that be because the way she's dressed & her heavy makeup? Also why was a 14yr old girl out so late in the dead of night walking alone in a sketchy area, wearing high heeled shoes, down a street that "she's walked a thousand times before"? Everything points to Jenny being an underage prostitute, showing us what Ren writes has reason & is made to make us think. There's no fat on the bone, every word is weighed & has meaning. Also, how can both these siblings be so cursed? Both are born out of violence on that cruel night of Violets beating and then both killed with brutal violence in the same night 14yrs later. Interesting how Jenny has the same traits as her mother Violet, quiet, voiceless, and timid. Whereas Screech mirrors his father Stevie in every way, Loud, obnoxious, and easily prone & provoked into violence. They didn't know one another and had never met their biological parents. What made these kids so much like their parents? Was it simply Nature, inherited traits due to their genetic make-up OR Nurture, being brought up in the broken governmental system filled with, mistreated & in many cases, abused children, shuffled from one foster home to another ? He organically takes us on this journey, leaving us to think shouldn't we be doing better in this so called "advanced, wealthy, 1st world society. I'm loving your reactions. Cheers 🥂

Ren read a newspaper article about a 14 yr old killing a prostitute and suppossedly the quote "What a shame!". That's how the idea for the tales was started but all the other intricate background connections and details are Rens creations. I don't if anyone mentioned already the thing with Patrick and Screechs girlfriend or the thing the first and the last thing Jenny has in her life is a knife, or how they are side by side at birth and one street apart in death. I know the generational cycle is mentioned already, how Jenny is quiet like her mother and Screech angry and triggered like his father. And acctually already Violets parents before that, her quiet and he the bastard

It's not a true story but in a way it is. Generational trauma is real and devastating. Here we are told if a girl who was abused as a child and ended up in an abusive relationship because she had no sense of self, no boundaries, no solid foundations. She has 2 children who then end up in a broken care system, were probably both abused and taken advantage of in various ways, again, no sense of self, no foundation, lives of struggle and doing what they needed to survive. Our newspapers would vilify Screech. Some people would call him evil because it's so much easier to blame the child than the system. But he never stood a chance, none of them did. It was all inevitable in a world where looking too deeply at someone's situation uncovers shortcomings in a system that are too difficult to put right. Society is rigged.

Partly a true story, as Ren wrote first two parts in response to a 14yr old charge with the stabbing murder of a teenage girl on streets. The line "it's such a shame" is direct quote from police officer that inspired Ren. Violet's tale was an additional DV story very loosely based on pregnant victim and surviving child and fetus
@Skittenmeow
@Skittenmeow 10 ай бұрын
PTSD changes DNA (epigenetics) so can be directly heritable. DV and severe trauma during pregnancy means unborn children directly exposed (through umbilical blood supply) to all the hormones of chronic stress, anxiety, fear, pain, anguish etc. Not to mention at a certain point they could hear Stevie. Screech and Jenny, even in the best of foster/ adoption services, would have needed extra support. The extreme hormones before birth would have changed their neurotransmitters and wiring
@laurafromliverpool

@@Skittenmeow I find epigenetics so interesting.
@Skittenmeow
@Skittenmeow 10 ай бұрын
@@laurafromliverpool yeah me too. Getting to the stage where these "switches" can be turned off, the methods are not yet consistent but I love that we'll eventually be in a place where kids don't necessarily have to deal with heritable trauma through counselling etc, that the epigenetic changes could be reversed before conception, or early in life for a child

It's not factual. It's from Ren's imagination. There was a brief newspaper article that got him thinking but the rest is Ren. The article said little more than a 14 year old boy had killed a young woman in a knife attack but he even changed those bare-bones details, as the woman was quite a bit older than 14, there was no mention of her being a prostitute, like Jenny. They weren't siblings and the boy was arrested, not shot. That was actually the most jarring moment for British audiences, as the British police are unarmed, except for some specialist units but they don't tend to patrol the streets. So, apart from that tiny snippet of news, the rest is Ren. The date in Violet's Tale, 2005, is obviously also the birth date for Jenny and James/Screech. They died when they were 14, which means they died in 2019, when the first parts of the Tale were released. :)

I think this story that Ren has given us has so many layers and depths...why was 14 yr old jenny out at night with high heels and rosey cheeks? She walked them a thousand times before... sounds like teenage prostitution to me. Maybe my brain is just tarnished and jaded. I'd be a far richer man if I had a dollar everything I've heard someone say " who the hell is Violet" I'd be a much wealthier man. Ren has a definite dark side. Thank you for the honest reaction.
