Transcript:
Have you ever thought about getting a job at McDonald's?
I tend to burn myself when I cook, still I've heard McDonalds is not just a place we can get delicious food, it's also a place where you can earn money and work with some really cool people.
A lot of young people out there love working McDonald’s, so let's go find out why.
Now what most of us see when we come to McDonald's is the menu, the counter, straw dispenser, maybe the napkins if you salivate a little bit too much over your food, and if you take time to look you'll notice that most of the people behind the counter are young and are having a good time.
Who have we got here?
Emily! How long have you been working at McDonald's?
I've been here about nine months now.
And why did you decide to get a job at McDonald's?
I knew one of the managers and she said it was fun to work at so it kind of looked pretty cool as well.
Best parts of your job?
Definitely the people working here it's a really cool environment to be in.
And that's the front counter. We now cross live to Hans who's out the back. Hans?
Thanks Hans. Yes I'm at the drive-through window, now we've all seen it but normally from this side.
So this is how it works on the inside, if you like Xbox you're going to love this place you get a head set you get buttons to push.
"And welcome to McDonald's what can I get for you today?"
The only difference is you're getting paid money instead of trying to ignore your mom while she's vacuuming the living room
And this is Anthony. Anthony, what do you like best about being a drive-through attendant?
I just like the interacting with the customers and yeah what's the job taught you? What have you learnt from it?
Just how easy to talk to people are, you just hear the weirdest things sometimes.
Do you like hanging out with all the people you work with?
Yeah they're fun guys pretty cool.
Now once you taken an order, what happens next?
Well I go through the computer and then straight to the back area where they make the burgers
The kitchen?
Yeah.
This is the nerve centre of McDonald's, it's where the magic happens. If you want a quarter pounder with no pickles, Dickie can sort you out. Now this is Dickie. Dickie, what do you like about being back here making all the food?
Ah yeah, just the fast intensity and teamwork that's going on here it's actually really good.
How'd you get on with all the people you work with?
Yeah really well really well, a lot of my friends so...
Obviously you make a lot of my so what do you spend it on?
Ah, you know this and that, whatever I want really, just music, CDs, just everything.
Sweet, well keep going.
Look how delicious those are. Of course McDonalds is not just burgers you got the McCafe over here, Danielle, tell us about what it's
like to be behind the counter at the cafe.
Well, I have to say I love it here, people I work with are amazing so you know and of course best job ever. I get to live with these all day, these lovely sweets…
They look pretty tasty.
Oh yeah they are, they're delicious. You should try some actually, I think you might like it.
So that's it. Now you know what goes on behind the counter at McDonald's it's fun, it's easy, you work with your mates and it's a great way to meet people plus the best bit is the entire time you're getting paid for it so if you're looking for a job, maybe McDonald's is the way to go!

There's so much stuff left unsaid. For example, whenever I'm in kitchen, the fast paced intensity isn't something to enjoy and teamwork just goes as far as "Get thing on grill" and "Here is thing" especially since most of my coworkers speak mainly Spanish and I don't speak any Spanish. Also the people who come to McDonald's sometimes aren't the friendliest of people and get pissed off when something out of my control happens like the oh so famous shake machine breaking down yet again.

Aren't the friendliest? That's an understatement. Yesterday we had yet another wacko come in and threaten to kill all the guests and customers then left and came back with a gun pointing it at drive through customers and through the drive through window at employees. We had three female employees quit after that yesterday including one of our shift leaders. All three were complete basket cases and the cashier they actually pointed their gun at was ordered to stay and finish their shift if they wanted to keep their job. This is the 2nd time this year this sort of incident happened and on average we have to call the police 3-5 times a week. Though the worst was the time I was in the back washing dishes and it was late at night and a 16 year old employee opened the back door to take out the trash and someone with a large caliber gun loaded with hollow points shot him in the face. I stood there for about five or six hours as part of the crime scene since his skull and brains and blood were all over me and my clothes. Ever stand on a sheet of plastic naked for three hours while half a dozen cops and technicians use tweezers to pick pieces of another human being out of your skin and face and hair and ears and eyes? I use that as my yard stick for how bad a day I'm having. I call that a zero. A day I don't have to call the police and everyone shows up is a 10. My average day is about a 2-3 on that scale.

I spent four years at McDonald's between 2009 and 2013 (age 15 to 19) working at three different outlets. The worst job you can get. Don't do it. Teaches you how awful people are (customers and colleagues alike), destroyed my self confidence, constant shift changes, highly stressful and tiring, you always smell like fry oil and it gets all over your clothing, you get very hot and sweaty even on the coldest days. If you are casual, they stop giving you shifts at 19 and give them to the 15 year olds because they are cheaper. I had a manager assault me by grabbing my wrist, telling me to "get it together" when I was having a panic attack. Same one slapped me across the face later that day. I was lucky my store manager at this outlet liked me, and he fired him shortly afterwards. Imagine coming to terms with this, and colleagues discussing this manager not working there anymore. The rumours made it unbearable to work there. There were many incidents of customers swearing at me, throwing drinks at me, smearing pickles on the walls, vomit and poop on the floor of the toilets I had to clean up, and a fight between three men in the middle of the dining room at 1am, dripping blood everywhere, just after I'd mopped and cleaned the dining room for closing. Take my advice: Avoid working customer service at all costs, and if you must, opt for retail work. I'm 24 and still working in customer based jobs. It's a nightmare and a trap. Build your skill set when you are young, and get an admin role instead. More paperwork, but much easier.

I work at maccas for abt 1 month now. I'm 14 and from my experience, it's been really mediocre. It's a busy area right across a shopping complex so from the time it opens to the time it closes we are jam packed and working our asses off. Since I'm so young they give me a lot of shifts coz it's cheaper to give them to me so my weekends are me working from like 630 in the morning to 330 in the Arvo. The managers make us go on our 10 minute breaks like an hour into our 8-9 hr shifts and make us go on our 30 minutes around 2 hours later which means we have to work another 6 hours without any breaks. That's literally a whole school day ! I normally am working on fries (hash browns, apple pies, and French fries) and front counter (making drinks, calling orders, taking orders). During lunch rush and morning rush I'm really fucking sweating, they make me go on fries by myself when it's a 2 man job and I have to fill up the fridge, make sure the baskets are frying, and I'm getting the fry orders scooped up. It's really stressful and I often go home sweaty and smelling like oil. Front counter is even harder. When the manger catches U standing still for even 5 seconds you will be yelled at and if you take too long to give out someone's order, they will cuss you out and yell at you. The only accurate part about working at maccas is meeting new people that become friends with U. Most of us are fkin exhausted and all in the same boat so we understand each other and can talk to each other. Long story short, don't work at maccas unless that's your only option, peace.

Everyone he talks to talk like they're at a job interview. And he talks like he's selling a product. The guy who got asked how he spends his money, gosh, he handled it pretty well. He kept it generic. Because, look, it really isn't this guy or us, the audience's business.

Yep Dicky knew what it was all about. And he obviously knew the guy didn't care, just told him to keep going anyway. And they forgot to cut out the awkward "yep" Dicky murmured.

@mrbizzaros

Been working there for some time now and it's pretty good... ...If you don't interact with the customers. I kinda lucked out with my coworkers, because I already knew some of them and the ones I didn't know I got along with pretty quickly. My managers are all fun as well, and the worst experience I've ever had with one was simply when I took a bit too long to make something and they just told me to speed up a bit. They even asked us (nagged us to death actually) to complete a survey on how well the store was being ran and how managers could treat us better (and I had little feedback to give). So is it a good place to work? It really depends on the place you go. I lucked out, but I'm sure many did not.

This video is so wrong. It is an extremely stressful job especially being out in the kitchen. Every day I go home feeling smashed and literally have no energy to do anything else. Rostering sucks, we are always understaffed and front area always yelling at you saying where’s the food as soon as you get the order. Really do not apply for Mcdonalds. Especially not a mcopco (corporate) store. I believe understaffing isn’t as much of an issue at franchises as the owners take care of their staff but here they don’t care about ass all they care about is making as Mitch money as possible and milking us for our labour.

I took a few notes: "Fun job." "Make a lot of money." "Best job ever." Really? I smell something fishy with this video. Anyway, I'm not going to criticize people working here, but unless you're thinking of going into management, think of jobs at places like McDonald's as stepping stones, or to make some money while in school. Working the drive-up or flipping burgers, aren't careers.

my job at hungry jacks (aussie burger king) is super fun and i love the mates i work with but its just that unless you are able to make jokes, sing, or even talk with your co-workers to lower the stress by a lot then you probably wont have much fun and will get wayyy to stressed out. The first thing i do when i see a new worker i introduce myself and start having a good old chat with them because my mate did that for me on my first day and it felt like ai now had a safety net of sorts and made me feel more confident and comfortable. My favourite thing to do while stressed out af is to just sing some song and get all the boys into it so we are making burgers while singing a song together lol, its fun as hell, makes the job wayy less stressful and also helps us work faster. You just gotta have fun with the job.
