I've had PCOS since I was 11. PCOS is not an infertility sentence. Most women with PCOS are able to conceive naturally it just might take a bit longer if there are anovulation issues and/or irregular cycles. Currently on baby number 4 with PCOS and anovulation.

theres a ego in the expertise profession, where if you do it long enough, you eventually become immune to peoples concerns, and shut them down after certain buzzwords are exchanged. even when the concerns are literally killing the patient from the inside. some people have actually gotten banned from doctors offices over simple questions on vaccination, and holistic alternatives, and idk about other professions but im pretty sure alternative thinking is not something many experts are thinking of. for example, in the climatology community, it wasn't till the IPCC actually admitted that space weather has influence over the weather back in 2022, when it was regularly proven for 20 years prior that space weather was actually amplifying hurricanes and supercell weather patterns that people started to recognize that space weather is not something to ignore when doing forecasts. there was and still is organizations committed to the old science however, like climate feedback.

No true healthcare professional should shut down your concerns. Two-way communication is critical. But one also has to be reasonable with objections to treatments that have solid evidence behind them. One cannot spend unreasonable amounts of time trying to convince a patient not to try ineffective/snake oil treatments. For example no engineer would spend an hour convincing a client that building a bridge with Styrofoam is not a good idea. Such a meeting would last 1 minute or less. You wouldn't expect the engineer to go through a list of 100 possible materials better than styrofoam to use to build a bridge with the client and explain their tensile strengths etc.

@@gunnerarshavin2009 "No true healthcare professional should shut down your concerns." they literally train people to dismiss concerns and manipulate and lie to patients. wtf are you talking about? " But one also has to be reasonable with objections to treatments that have solid evidence behind them." almost never happens in modern medicine, unless its from a very open minded medical doctor. " One cannot spend unreasonable amounts of time trying to convince a patient not to try ineffective/snake oil treatments." doctors are encouraged to do this and even scare you into treatments, usually the last resort is banning you from the doctors office. i have found that holistic practitioners do not attempt manipulative tactics or ban you from clinics for questioning western medical science. "For example no engineer would spend an hour convincing a client that building a bridge with Styrofoam is not a good idea. Such a meeting would last 1 minute or less. You wouldn't expect the engineer to go through a list of 100 possible materials better than styrofoam to use to build a bridge with the client and explain their tensile strengths etc." yes i would, otherwise they are complicit if the bridge ever opens to traffic and people start falling to their deaths. we learned since world war 2 that shutting up and letting things happen is not a excuse, nor is a fear of monetary or physical safety being traded for freedom. none of the nazi generals and soldiers were allowed such a excuse. saying stuff like "we just followed orders" is basically the same as letting stuff happen. its the same thing here. city hall proposes a styrofoam bridge? oh no engineer ever came forth to stop them? bridge opens to traffic and now people are dead? why didn't anyone warn them that it was a bad idea and give them stronger alternatives? yea thats not gonna go well with a judge if a expert knew event A was gonna happen instead of event B because product P is not gonna be good enough to cause event B to happen, but decided to say yes or keep quiet.

Obviously there isn't enough info here, but it sounds like she's about to be ripped off. If she isnt having any negative symptoms from her PCOS, and they arent even actively trying to get pregnant yet, then she should NOT be spending that kind of money for ANY treatment. My story is just a personal anecdote, but I had diagnosed PCOS before getting pregnant. It did take longer to conceive (and we almost started fertility treatments), but i was ultimately able to get pregnant without any medical interventions. And after having my first child, my PCOS practically reversed itself. Our second child was conceived much faster, and now after 2 kids my hormones have evened themselves out. Unless she is over 30, and has not had any children yet, she shouldnt need any treatments YET (since she said she isnt experiencing negative symptoms). And when she does need treatments for fertility they should come from an MD or a DO. John is right, she needs a second opinion, and to raise her snake oil guard.

Ok ok as someone in the medical field who also went through fertility issues - she’s getting scammed. PCOS is diagnosed via the Rotterdam Criteria. She either has 2 of the 3 criteria and has PCOS, or she doesn’t. She needs to skip all medical professionals and go straight to a reproductive endocrinologist (fertility doctor) and get a transvaginal ultrasound, get her hormone levels checked (including her testosterone etc), and the 3rd criteria is irregular cycles or ovulation, which she should be able to know if her cycles are regular or not, the cycle length, etc. If she does meet the criteria and is diagnosed, like many others said already in the comments, it can often be managed via diet (to help manage insulin resistance), weight loss (excess fat tissue = excess estrogen), and avoiding endocrine disrupters (using “clean” products, using glass instead of plastic, etc). There is no $4000 “test” to be done. I’m telling you - look up the Rotterdam criteria to diagnose PCOS and go see a doctor for a transvaginal ultrasound and get some simple hormone labs done at LabCorps.

The biggest take away here should be that the $1000 emergency fund was a mistake. It is not enough emergency fund to be able sustain your life, or cover you for an average family emergency for even one month. The purpose of starting with an emergency fund is to prevent an emergency from derailing you in step 2, and a $1000 fund is not enough to do that. It should be a minimum of 1 months expenses to start.

Just another idea since it isn't life threatening but just proactive and about having babies: skip the procedure, you are a parent already to two girls as she said, there is always adoption options and even without the procedure you might still be able to have kids anyway (based on what she said) and there is no guarantee an expensive non emergence medical procedure will even work.

Other way around: she wants to have kids and she should figure out what it takes with her condition to have at least 1 child because she might not be able to again

I’m a doctor and this is a waste of money. Naturopaths test for a ton of labwork that is not evidence based and won’t help PCOS. Treatment for PCOS is healthy diet, exercise, metformin to decrease insulin resistance and birth control if cycles are irregular. I am not only a physician, I have pcos myself. Please don’t waste your money on pseudoscience. Mounjaro has also been showing promising results in terms of weight loss and decreasing insulin resistance to promote normal ovulation etc
