Agreed! When my ex bought more stuff for his hobbies to where our electricity got cut off, twice in one summer. When paying our utilities was one of two financial responsibilities he had, I was pretty pissed. He paid rent and utilities, i paid for everything else, which included food and clothing for my 2 kids and his 3 kids, and him. It wasn't him not being able to pay it that was the issue. It was making it seem like he had paid it, the dishonesty was what really upset me. And the fact that he was willing to let it go so far as us not having electricity.

Jade, QUIT IT! The husband trusts his wife to make good decisions and she's making excuses for impulse "feel good" buying. She talks repeatedly about instant feelings/reactions. She's ignoring the debt because it doesn't provide instant feelings. She bought a new car using NEGATIVE equity, again to feel good. She's also justifying the debt for the house as "it's worth more."

Yeah I didn't like when jade suggested the husband is at fault for her spending habits because he isn't "paying attention" maybe he thinks she's smart enough to make wise decisions and not spend money they don't have. Not the husband's fault but certainly his problem. Until she tells him the truth about her continuous poor financial decisions he's never going to get the full picture, Deloney was right at the beginning that he's probably trying to figure this out and fix it from his end and frustrated that he can't get at the problem, while she's sitting there keeping him in the dark (and probably thinking he looks pathetic). Ffs. Biased towards women once again. You’ve got a woman on the phone ADMITTING to hiding stuff from her husband. Yet you somehow still find a way to blame the husband because “maybe” he’s not doing something. Wow. If this was a man on the phone, the blame would be FULLY on him and you would not be thinking “maybe your wife is at fault here”. Radical feminism is so apparent here.

It's NOT the husband's fault. However, I must say he has poor judgement of character because he clearly trust someone he shouldn't.

I didn’t hear Jade blaming the husband. She mainly pointed out it takes two to tango. Like, that the husband isn’t aware of the financial situation of their debts, that does say something. They both never talk about it, they never made a plan to get out of debt, they bought another car on a payment, while her old car wasn’t even payed off. It sounds like they’re married but with their own separate bank accounts and finances. It’s been ignored in their marriage, and it felt to me that she called in for that exact reason. It scares her, and she’s finally ready to face the truth. I heard angst in her voice throughout, that slight anxiety tremor. I hope Kate will sit down with her husband, and start tackling this uncertainty to get out of debt. And to finally turn that wheel 180, to go towards a different lifestyle. What I do wonder, the financial advice given in that last minute is bare minimum. 😅 like you hear all the debts and within one sentence the advice was given and the conversation was shot down. I feel like she needed to hear a bit more on how to start with their debts. But maybe she can have that conversation with her husband and start budgeting their finances together to figure it all out. ❤

My husband would never trust me again if I got us in $15k debt without his knowledge. I confessed to him once that I tried to always start the dishwasher before I left for work so he would have to be the one to unload. I mentioned it in passing like it was funny, but boy did that become the hot topic. It took him 5 years to quit brooding about that and holding it over my head, even after I apologized profusely. I finally had to beg and plead him to forgive me.

$165K non mortgage debt. He has to know about the cars and the student loans (total $85K?). $80K he is unaware of. Really? He had to sign for the home equity. It could be "just" the unsecured loans and the credit card (total $45K) that he doesn't know about. I blame them both - he's chosen to be oblivious, she's taken action without cluing him in.

She's taking advantage of his easy going nature. I agree with Jade's tough love on the husbad bc he needs to wise up, lay down some rules and TUNE IN before she has more "secrets" for him! She doesn't respect her husband, the sooner he figures this out, the better!

These people are an absolute MESS. If she's lying to him about money I gaurantee she's hiding other stuff from him. She immediately said she's not cheating on him but sorry I don't believe the deceiver. People who deceive don't typically confine the deception to 1 facet. This woman and her marriage are unsalvageable.

The $15K credit card debt she called about is more of a problem because she racked it up without specifically telling her husband about it than the actual dollar amount. They have other debt that has nothing to do with the credit card debt -- student loans, unsecured loans, cars, HELOC. I can hear Dave's voice in the background screaming "Beans and rice. Rice and beans. Sell the cars. Sell the house. Take the equity (almost $300K if her numbers are right) and pay off all the debt. Live in a more modest place while you get back on track."
