Well said Alex. I think a lot of us have a great love and appreciation for European football because of football Italia and the Likes of Batistuta, Weah, Baggio, Vialli etc

Let's be clear here - that presenter is Jamie/James Richardson; Peter Brackley was the main commentator in games and narrator to some of the video packages. Both legends of course, but Richardson is very much alive and well at time of writing.

Great memories of probably the best league in world football at that time. Terrific games, big name players, huge attendances, fabulous stadiums, Serie A not been the same for a long long time. Pity.

I'm from Bulgaria I was a kid in the 90s when Serie A was the first western championship they gave after communism! The second program then had only two. It was a real pleasure to watch Series A then great masters in almost every team!

The nostalgia is almost painful. My whole life in front of me. Watching Gazetta on a Saturday morning before going into town to buy some records and then watching the match on a Sunday afternoon while eating my Sunday dinner, quite often still hungover from the night before. I fell in love with Italy through these shows, even learned to speak Italian at night school lol.

Can't believe Totti is on this video when he has only just retired. What a legend! All the teams that have tried to sign him over the years and he stayed loyal to Roma. Not much loyalty between players and clubs/clubs and players so for him to be at one club for such a long career is incredible. Thanks Francesco!

Who remembers that moment when Vieri objected to being asked questions in English, which he speaks, by Richardson? Richardson without missing a beat slipped into Italian. Vieri didn't enjoy the moment. 😜 Richardson speaks English, Italian, French, Spanish and Portuguese.

Quality. Deep league at the time with stars on every team. As good as some teams are now, their leagues are not as deep as these squads were. People keep saying Serie A will be this good again, but truth is, no league was or has been as good between the late eighties through most of the nineties as Serie A. Most leagues can't field more than 2-3 competitive teams for a title, let alone do that consistently for European play. Spain has come close but the two horse race at the top kills it most times. Prem is great but it hasn't the quality and depth mid table like Seri A did here. It was the time, nostalgia is strong but the game has changed business wise.

No wonder Juventus' stadium was nicknamed the Stadio Delle Empty - best thing that ever happened to them was getting their own ground. Thats one of the main problems for all Italian clubs, renting decrepit old stadia from venal local councils that refuse to pay for any refurbishing.
