Goan Banana Filoz - Easy Goan Banana Filos Recipe / Goan Banana Fritters / Goan Banana Pancakes with Wheat Flour: Today, let me show you how I make Goan banana filoz or banana filos - banana pancakes with wheat flour. This is an old and traditional recipe. But it is also a very flexible and easy one. You can't go wrong with it. You could make these banana pancakes with wheat flour using modifications of your own. For example, you could make it with or without eggs. Or make it with cane jaggery, palm jaggery, or a mix of both. You could also make Goan filoz with sugar.

Thank you for the recipe. Can we substitute fresh coconut with desiccated coconut. If yes what would be the quantity to use?

You're most welcome, Freda. Yes, you could use desiccated coconut. In this recipe, the quantity of coconut is small and is also not very critical and won't drastically change the outcome if you reduce or increase it a little, whether you go with fresh or desiccated coconut. So add the same quantity of desiccated coconut or around 1 tsp less than what is mentioned in the recipe.

I love your recipes. Simple, easy, and delicious. Your Chicken Xacuti is a family favourite. We do make a similar version of filoz in Kerala. We add a little bit of nutmeg too. Hi Betty Frances! Well, filoz are banana pancakes. But if you want to skip the bananas, you could add canned/boiled pumpkin puree, pureed blueberries/blackberries, crushed pineapple, or even boiled and pureed sweet potatoes. Hope this helps.

Hi Charlotte! Goan Vonn is made from either chana dal as in my vonn video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gaiboq6k2q_ak4U.html , or with moog dal. You could follow my vonn recipe, but replace the chana dal with moog dal. With whole moog however, we make goddxem or conn. I don't yet have a recipe for that, but I know my mom used to roast moog, then crush it, so it became like moog dal with the skin, and then cooked it till it got soft. Then she added in grated coconut, jaggery, and water , stirred it all up and boiled it. This would be mooga conn or mooga goddxem. So if you were looking for vonn with moog dal, you could follow my vonn recipe. But for whole moog goddxem or conn, you could use an equal quantity of moog and coconut, and then add in around double the quantity of jaggery. Hope I've answered your question.

Hi Ma'am...Yummy recipe as usual .👍 Wasn't aware that this was a traditional Goan recipe...coz as a kid my mom used to make these for us n i make them for my kids. We are Bangaloreans mix of Anglo n Tamilian Catholics. Guess somebody got the recipe from some Goan friend.

Hi Mary! Thank you for your appreciation. Actually, the banana pancakes recipe originated in the West. In Goa, it got a native twist. Instead of all-purpose flour as in the original recipe, the people started using whole wheat flour, and instead of sugar, they preferred palm jaggery. With the passage of time, and also out of necessity, palm jaggery got often replaced with cane jaggery. I guess all recipes evolve with time, and this one evolved in ts own way in Goa.

No Trudy. You can't deep fry these. To do that, it would have to be a dough, not a batter. And the batter would have to be like a chapati dough. Instead, I suggest you make my Goan sweet/banana buns. They're like banana puris and also very tasty.
