Knowing when and how to worm your goats is essential. This is probably the most important lesson of goat ownership.
Study this information and take it seriously.
80,0000 goats die a year from parasites. And I don't want those goats to be your goats.
The key lessons are:
Don't work on a schedule, worm when needed.
Learn how to do a fecal.
Use dewormers that work for the specific worm you're dealing with.
Dose properly.
Check regularly.
You can buy the goat binder set (My Goat Binder and My Parasite Binder) together and save on shipping: vip.alifeofheritage.com/my-go...

7:40 Answering the question: what do you give your goats for worms?

9:54 Response to "but I dewormed my goats! It can't be that!" Did you check to see if deworming them was effective?
11:07 Identifying worm eggs--you can't identify barber pole and brown stomach worm with just looking at the egg--only after they hatch and you have a worm to identify
12:03 How to do a fecal for goat's poop
15:40 Looking at slides to count the eggs on the McMaster slide to get the FEC
17:49 I see lots of tapeworms
21:08 Doing fecals at different times of the egg and worm cycle will change how the fecal looks and the FEC
22:04 Establish how you do your fecal and keep it the same each time.
23:03 Doing a fecal on a goat with "normal" pill poop (not showing signs of worms)
23:47 Looking at sample under microscope
24:05 Looking at eggs and seeing them on screen

Also don’t apologize for long videos those are the ones I enjoy when it’s informative or full goat births, I’ll be honest I just by pass my channels with only the five mins videos unless it’s one’s I follow closely like your channel and Sage and Stone and a few other channels then I’ll watch those but majority of the channels I just move on I don’t get anything knowledgeable out of five mins unless its a quick recipe. Delci hi! I'm really new at owning goats. I have 2 whethers 1 buck and 3 does. I feed majority alfalfa/Timothy. I also feed peanut hay and very little grain. Unfortunately my goats don't get to free forge. I recently by accident found out my goats love Timothy grass that we feed our rabbits. Is it okay for my goats to have this? It is cut into short stripes and comes in a compressed bale. I live in Florida and all my hay is in a storage shed outside with no air. I keep an eye out for mold. I'm curious if Timothy grass is okay for my babies to eat. Thank you for these videos and my goat binder. You've helped me alot.

Thanks for all the info. I'm in the sub-tropics in northern Australia and worms are the biggest health issue we have to deal with. In 20 years of owning goats, I've never seen a tapeworm, but barbers pole is an absolute nightmare. There is a vaccine available now for it, which I'm yet to try, called Barbervax. According to my vet, studies are showing that suseptabilty to parasites is a genetic issue, so something to be mindful of when breeding. I have 1 nanny that I won't breed again for that reason, and in time hopefully build a more relilient herd. I note that your method of administering the drench is reliant on a cooperative goat. 😃 I find that standing straddled over them forward facing, makes it much easier to hold their heads steady and erect, which enables the drench to flow down their throats more effectively. Having said that though, our drenches are liquid not paste form. Thanks again for sharing your experiences.

I just lost two younger doelings and then an adult pregnant goat😪😪😪 Once she started to have a dirty behind, i took the sample to the vet. Gave her and the rest what the doctor said, and yet they died literally days after deworning. For some reason, these were 3 unrelated red/ white goats, the rest, even related to the passed away, are differently colored and their FAMACHA is pink! Anybody heard anything color related?

I’m so very sorry. That’s so hard. You’ll find that within a herd, even related animals all have different abilities and levels of resistance to parasites. And if they are really loaded with worms they can more easily get sick. So it could have been a combo of being down from worms and then dying from pneumonia for instance. Although you don’t know for sure without a necropsy. Again, I’m so sorry. Make sure the remaining goats get treated if need be.

I used commercial dewormers for my goats because to be honest I didn't know anything about herbal dewormers. I was the first in my family of 10 siblings to own a dairy goat herd. My mom milked cows but I got into dairy goats out of necessity. My youngest son had serious stomach issues and couldn't tolerate cows milk. One dairy goat led to two, and three and before long I had a herd. The whole family benefited from the milk but especially my 8 yr old.

I keep a journal in a cheap $2.00 spiral notebook on all my animals. It’s basically a log. Breeding dates. Who gave birth on what date. Number of kids(?) live births/ deaths, weights…general notes. Dates animals were wormed. Medication used. What was their dose(?) Mite treatments if needed. Medications used. How much (?) injuries or accidents.treatments used.(?) etc. etc. Vet visits to the farm. Dates goats hooves were clipped etc etc. It’s not elaborate. Just something to look back on in case you forget a date etc. also keep track of # of males banded. One’s kept intact / sold for breeding stock. Etc. I keep track of when a goat was sold & price. Deaths… because it does & will happen. In this notebook a record is kept for all my goats. I keep one on all my sheep & Meishan pigs too. If you are going to be raising animals especially goats you’ve gotta keep track of the medications used. Worms build up a resistance to vaccines. You never want to go over board with these. When in doubt .. call the vet. Most first time goat owners’ do not see the need to keep a notebook. As time goes on you’ll realize the importance of it. As your herd grows you will need a notebook, journal, ledger whatever ya want to call it. There is no way to remember it all. Good luck to all you 🫵goat lovers’💕👍 ✌️🕊️
