Very helpful. Why are literature students not watching videos like these? I wonder why English learners go to channels where speakers cannot even pronounce the basic English terms.

Having lots of food allergies, plus the fact that Goblins don't actually exist, I just naturally assumed Lizzie was right and didn't question this as me being racist. When I viewed the poem through a neutral lens, not knowing if Lizzie or Laura was doing the right thing, I realized that I had focused on *goblin* men and not goblin *men* When I realized that all men are goblin men, the words of Simone de Beauvoir hit hard: --- On the day when it will be possible for woman to love not in her weakness but in her strength, not to escape herself but to find herself, not to abase herself but to assert herself-on that day love will become for her, as for man, a source of life and not of mortal danger. In the meantime, love represents in its most touching form the curse that lies heavily upon woman confined in the feminine universe, woman mutilated, insufficient unto herself. The innumerable martyrs to love bear witness against the injustice of a fate that offers a sterile hell as ultimate salvation. ---

You are right. People make assumptions thinking that adjectives ( or in this case qualifying nouns ) qualify and elaborate nouns. But here the word goblin is hiding and camouflaging the real trigger word "men"

@@NibblePop It's a bit more obvious if you really look closely at the names, but you have to really look. Laura is a feminized form of the Latin word "laurus" (bay laurel plant). If you go Greek, though, the name would be Daphne. (Same plant, and same cultural connotations of the plant used for crowns of victory). The myth of Apollo and Daphne is that Apollo was making fun of the archery skills of Eros, so Eros shot him with an arrow that would fill him with insatiable desire, but shot Daphne with an arrow that filled her with disgust for anything romantic.

Ma'am, I have little confusion between Elves and Goblins. Both have pointed ears and sharp teeth. Then, what is the main difference between these mythical creatures. Ma'am it would be very helpful if you kindly clarify it.
@NibblePop
@NibblePop 2 жыл бұрын
Both are imaginary. Elves are more airy and light spirited. GobLins are usually represented as dark creatures who are not open to humans.

Here's a new thought. "Their hungry thirsty roots?" ... Isaiah 11:10 and Isaiah 53:2. I wish I could say that it was just me, Rosetti, and the Bible, but it was really more Eliot asking "What are the roots that clutch, what branches grow Out of this stony rubbish? Son of man, You cannot say, or guess," Given the narrative structure of the poem, it doesn't seem too far of a stretch to say it's a warning to the reader about the dangers inherent in patriarchal religion.

If you adopt that paradigm, then "one hauls a basket/one bears a plate/one lugs a golden dish/of many pounds weight" describes a Communion set and offering basket.
