Not only is Manic a banger and a half, it's also a genius representation of the titular state of mind. Putting Pharrell's "Happy" over the powerfully dark synthwave sound of Carpenter Brut's cover of "Maniac" perfectly encapsulates the feeling of an unnatural, uncontrollable influx of emotion. Throw in samples of Green Day's "Basket Case" to hammer home both the subject's instability during an episode and society's perception of the disorder, and Britney Spears' "Toxic" as a potentially apt descriptor of a manic person's behavior, and you have the audial form of an often overlooked mental disorder. Truly impressive stuff from jazzwave.

Manic is so insanely accurate to how a manic state feels that it makes me uncomfortable. Absolutely amazing song, and if the creator has suffered from a manic disorder themselves, which I suspect due to its accuracy, that they've gotten help and are doing better as well.

So when this was uploaded I was fine listening to it. Now I fully feel the mania of it. It's so uncomfortable to listen to. Something with the mixing and the pitch spread during the chorus feels exactly how emotional breakdowns feel for me. It's bizarre.

To anyone who hasn't seen it, I HIGHLY recommend watching the concert footage for the live version of Maniac by Carpenter Brut. If you've ever wondered why people start cheering in the intro before the song actually starts: it's because the concert visuals at that point were a landline phone with the text "DO YOU LIKE HURTING OTHER PEOPLE?" Even all these years later, Hotline Miami still absolutely fucking rules. The music video for the live version is also great. It edits in a bunch of over the top gore and nudity from trashy 80s slasher movies so you can imagine the Peak Vibes it has.
