What wonders God does in our lives. This hymn was written by an English man (William Cowper - pronounced Cooper) who spent time with John Newton (who wrote one of the best known hymns - Amazing Grace) and he suffered for many years with a deep depression. The refrain is absolutely wonderful and describes an unwavering confidence thay many of us wish we had when life's ills trouble us. Praise be to God.

I got saved during my second University year in Port Elizabeth South Africa at a REACH-SA church. One of my pastors was teaching through the book of Ruth and Asked our congregation to sing this hymn every time before he delivered his sermon. I love the part “judge not the Lord by feeble sense “.

I played this hymns in one of the Bible studies at my church and I could see on people's faces the comfort that God uses it to bring, praise Him that he has left us with such treasures to comfort the souls of His hurting sheeps

I love contemporary Christian songs that lift me up. I love singing these songs in church but cannot get enough breath when they are slow. Getting old is so much fun. but thankfully i can still rock out at home. God is good.

Indeed God moves in mysterious ways!!! Such a beautiful hymn: It reminds us to rest in Him as His children....... "Judge not the Lord by feeble sense", His ways are higher than ours!!! God of mercy and of grace.....

We sang this song at my church about a month ago. I wept so much, and I still cry almost every time I listen to it. I never make it past that second verse, "Behind a frowning providence He hides a smiling face." That so greatly touches me. I can trust in all things that my God will take me through to the end, I can trust in all things that no matter how bad the frowning providence, it is given by the smiling face of the God who loves me, and in whose arms I run for shelter.
