Ancient greeks had two gods of war: Ares and Athena. Ares represented the ugly and brutal side of war, while Athena represented honorable fighting, the strategy etc

At the part where he has to defend his family from other versions of himself, the way he heals during the fighting is by hugging his family

You have to watch the cutscenes for 2 and 3. Then you guys will have the full story before playing God Of War (2018)

Thank you for doing this!!! GOW 2018 is an amazing story by itself, but it's massively elevated in weight and stakes when you know the contexts behind it.
