Hey, what do mean the days of "just" blocking. I also played right and left guard, as well as OLB and DE. I loved blocking. I was the 2nd best lineman on our team and was the only guard who could pull worth a damn, which is why I played left and right in the same game. I couldn’t play college because at 5'10"-150 lbs I was just too small to play those positions. Instead, I started coaching for my high school the very year after I graduated. It's a little strange coaching guys you grew up with and played with just the year before. My 3rd year coaching I was made head coach of the fresh-soph team. A few years after I moved to San Diego I coached the O-line and D-line for a semi-pro team. 3 of our guys got contracts to play Arena League, including one of my linemen and a CB who had never played CB before that year. He wanted to be a WR but at tryouts, he couldn't catch so I made him a CB and worked with him after practice. Another one of my D-linemen moved to Oregon and was a walk on to his college team. I saw him years later at the strip club I was a bouncer at and he told me about being a walk on and after college he ended up being a coach on that team. He told me it was all because of me. I'm now 52 and it's still the best compliment I ever got.
