This set of pieces was written by Leopold Godowsky (1870-1938) in 1924.
The third in this set (Bromo Volcano) is one of the greatest showpieces ever written, and I'm baffled at why it hasn't entered the standard virtuoso repertoire.
I would write more concerning these fascinating pieces, but Godowsky's own program notes describe them better than anything else will:

Briefly put, each piece is a musical travel vlog of a location or tradition in Java, Indonesia. Color, textural mastery, and virtuosity permeate throughout the work. The effortless virtuosity and pianistic mastery evident in each piece makes it hard to fathom the fact that Godowsky himself was largely self-taught.
