The barebulb is what makes the godox amazing and the fresnel head is a free backup if the bulb burns out on you. You don’t need the pro either you can get the ad200 regular one for even cheaper. Adorama has a version evolve 200 same light exactly for 329 gives you tons of accessories and a small soft box. Great deal.

Forgive me, I'm old-school. Been using bare bulb in a ~5" bowl reflector on a flash bracket for over two decades. Put a white disk defuser over the bowl. Without the diffuser it's nearly identical to the kind of light Press 25B flash bulbs created. With the diffuser, it's almost the same, but softer. Takes some of the edge off. Bought the AD200Pro specifically for the bare bulb, and bought the 5" bowl reflector with diffuser for it for less than $10 more. The difference between bare bulb in diffused bowl and a speedlight is the reason wedding photographers have used them for decades. The Quantum QFlash was the camera bracket bare bulb gold standard for many years and is still considered that by many, although the battery slabs for them are a PITA. For camera bracket mounting, the AD200(Pro) has the EC200 accessory that allows remote mounting of the head onto the camera bracket with tilt and swivel. Having also used 500 WS monolights, also for over two decades, the Geekoto light stand is worthless junk. At 7 foot it isn't tall enough by several feet, even for on-location work. Wouldn't risk a KEH "BGN" condition Vivitar 283 on it with the wimpy plastic snaps and flimsy construction. Cringed when I saw it. Also cringed when I saw you using a wall to test and compare output intensity. Use a flash meter in incident mode from a known, set distance to test and compare intensity (ten feet would be good). A flash meter is **essential** equipment for anyone using manually set monolights. Period. You can get a Gossen Luna Pro F for under $100; half that if you don't care about cosmetics. They're still considered a gold standard for light meters. If all you want is a basic flash meter, you can get an old Gossen-Ascor Mk II in nearly mint condition for just a few dollars - the 15V A220 alkaline battery for them is still readily available (it's only an incident meter; no reflected mode). Testing light output by blasting a flash onto a wall from a few feet away is utterly meaningless. The bias in this video is quite obvious and smells of shilling for Geekoto. It does reaffirm my decision to buy a Godox AD200 with a few accessories was a good, solid one.

I have 2 Godox AD600's, 2 AD200's anda V860iis speedlight. The Godox products have NEVER failed me and I recommend them to everyone. Not hating on Geekoto but I'm not switching from Godox and not paying ridiculous prices for Profoto lighting. I'm sure they're all great but in my opinion, you just can't beat Godox lighting.
@michaelwiseii45524 жыл бұрын
Godox offers a similar package for under $400. Not sure I would buy a “budget” version of a budget light. Godox has a proven track record that’s going to make it hard to top in this price range. Overlooked in this, the interchange head is a great feature with several inexpensive heads. I use the LED head a lot more than I expected and it’s only $25 (mainly for video). The magnetic attachments are also available for the AD200 (you can buy the light from Adorama and it comes with it). Just a suggestion when you start off buying lights an modifiers look for things that can be used in multiple ways. The softbox included with this setup can only be used with off camera flashes. Consider mounts like the Bowen’s system using something like the Godox S-Type bracket so your lighting modifiers work with studio strobes in the future. Nothing sucks like having to buy the same modifier for different mounting systems.

Don't see really an economy on the Geekoto. One thing that is included in the Godox is a base for the stand. I can see it in the case, but you never presented it. The difference is that the Geekoto serves also as a handle. My Godox (well, Flashpoint branded) kits came also with color gels, barn doors and grids, for $329. It's got some missing pieces already. I wanted to state that the AD200 does come with stand adapter and it can be mounted from the bottom or the side of the flash head. Mine came with grids & gels as well. Also, when used with the twin-head adapter it just outpaces the Geekoto combining the power to up-to 400 w/s. All in all, good effort, I can't wait to see it more in action.

The chances are if you buy this kind of lights you will be using them with at least one softbox or umbrella softbox. The efficient way of enlarging the light coming from a small strobe is actually to fire it in-front of a reflective material and to pass it thru a diffusion material for softer effect if the later is to be desired, not the setup that can be seen here 10:19. I have given-up the flash-trigger-softbox combo when shooting outdoors; my two TT5 PW broke in this kind of setup. I am back to the Dean Collins old school way of Flash setup behind the diffusion material which is adjustable and efficient in enlarging and reducing the size of the source of light. 13:14 It appears that the Godox has a more even/rectangular spread of light. Granted many people probably won't shoot most lights without some sort of modifier but I think it is important to look at the spread of light too. I much prefer the Godox spread, which is rectangular, over the "star" shaped (which is what I'd describe it as) from the Geekoto. I'm sure the Geekoto is good for things like perhaps a second light or whatever, but I'd still use my AD200 as my main light as it's proven itself (at least to me) to be reliable and produce reliable results. Again, if you're using light modifiers, the light spread may not be as much of an issue, but if you're shooting bare, it could be. I couldn't find a price for the Geekoto on Amazon, but even if it's within $100 of the AD200, I'd still recommend the AD200 over the Geekoto just because of the popularity and proven consistency (as consistent as Godox g ear can get obviously, which is probably less consistent than a pro system like Profoto or Elinchron). Plus then there's questions of durability. Will the Geekoto last as long as the Godox and is it as durable (I've dropped my AD200 three times so far unfortunately, and not even a scratch).

It’s just Godox rebranding it’s successful AD200 with a few cost saving implementations, cheaper to produce and higher profit margins.... The softbox, although looking nice, it is way inferior to the. Godox ones, and when coupled with the Geekoto it’s even worse, not having a bare bulb, and not having a beauty dish like small central diffuser it will create a massive central hotspot in the light produced; also the softbox can only be used with speedlights and AD200’s type of lights, whilst the Godox ones use a Bowen’s mount, much more versatile, the bracket to fit a speedlight or the AD200 is very cheap, something like 15 box, well worth the money when considering the versatility. I was an early adopter of the Godox system and loved it from day one, such a great value for money, and very very close to the big boys as for quality and results, IMO Godox it’s almost on par and ready to overtake Elinchrom and especially Profoto, not quite there yet versus Broncolor, however it doesn’t take much to develop a series of fresnel modifiers and since with a bit of trickery I have been doing Hypersync on my Godox system for a while ( I am syncing at full power at at least 1/000 on all the combinations that I have tried so far, and on some combinations all the way to 1/8000 ) I believe Godox will be adding Hypersync in the near future, making it the 4th one amongst the big boys.

@@Janet_Airlines802 There's godox softbox/collapsible beauty dish that's super cheap ($35 CAD IIRC) that fits directly on the AD200 bare bulb head. My other softboxes are all bowens mount, and I use an S-type mount, specifically Godox's; some of the no-name ones have a slot that's just a little too small for the AD200 and require modification. Using exclusively bowens mounts also lets you use the AD-B2 to combine 2 AD200's into a pseudo 400W light. This adds in a buffer for future proofing to some extent. A single AD200 happily and easily fills my 47" deep octo indoors, usually at or around min power in my poorly lit apartment. For the price, $100 more than the AD200 PRO (after shipping), there is very little to complain. This light does have some draw backs, but I can live with them and it is pretty self explanatory for it's age. Well done, informative, concise. Need to travel 5 hours by air to a wedding. Could not pack that softbox, but have one that is super flat (Godox 2x2) that is more appropriate. Still, nice to see compatibility with trigger systems.

Godox doesn't include lightstand mount for the flash anymore?

It does. Lee didn't mention or take it out of the bubble wrap.

Yep, it's in the case, in the same section as the cord for the battery charger. I have no idea why this was left out of the unboxing. But it makes me suspicious of this channel's reviews, since he makes a big deal about Geekoto coming with one and Godox not coming with it.

@@TroyBrophy It may be an oversight on his part. I always notice because the lightstand mount is the ONE thing that doesn't rest easy in the carrying case.

Heads up about Geekoto I was sent out a product by Geekoto in exchange for a 5 star amazon review they sent me the money i bought the product and right after even before using it they had me post a review without me even using the product it was pretty weird to be honest. And I know of tons of photographers around my area who are getting the free products and for sure giving the great reviews in fact I was referred to by a friend of a friend sort of thing and right after I posted my review I was told I could refer anyone and they would too send them free products so I wouldn’t believe the Amazon reviews at least not at this point they are truly going after that perfect looking Amazon account. Just be careful y’all

You Lost Me at Non Removable Head LOL we use that Bare Bulb and it's Amazing but that Soft Box looks pretty Dope looks like they copied a MagMod LOL can it be used with Bowens Mounts we also use the AD600 and the Kit that lets you use 2 AD200 units... and obviously can it be purchased separately?
