What a great movie, with the bonus of Godzilla being in it! I have never been so satisfied watching a movie as when I watched this masterpiece. The acting, the music and the effects, are simply awesome. I also loved, as a WWII history guy, that the plane depicted (The Shinden) was a great Easter egg! That was a real plane that Japan was developing,...bonus! Noriko was most likely "infected" with Godzilla's DNA. That allowed her to quickly heal herself. Great movie, and like you...I highly recommend it to all audiences!

Yea the movie was definitely awesome and that’s a very cool Easter egg, excited to see what they do next with it

Everything to do with Godzilla is done extremely well in Minus One, but what really astounds me is that if you completely removed Godzilla from the film, you still have a fantastic drama story about healing from PTSD and survivor’s guilt, and the healing of a nation from the devastation of war.

In one particular Godzilla/Kong trailer they're both running and I'm thinking they look like Batman and Robin. I did see Godzilla Minus-One and loved it. Godzilla is smaller than the Legendary Godzilla but in comparison, he makes Godzilla Legendary look Barney the Dinosaur. There is no 'I love you, you love me' sentiment with Godzilla Minus-One. He was simply a badass force of nature. As for Noriko pushing Shakashima out the way was the catalyst Shakashima needed to break free of being a hostage to his guilt and a victim to his fears.

I enjoyed your rational but energetic review, thanks! And one point I’d like to mention as an ordinary Japanese in Tokyo. Actually, there were quite a few “Tokkotai” (Special Attack Flight. Japanese don’t really say it as “a Kamikaze” or “to kamikaze” usually) veterans after the war in towns and workplaces. And it wasn’t so common to criticise them as shameless or dishonourable, according to my late mother. She was 11 years old in 1945 and was the only daughter of a liquor shop owner (my grandfather) who had some business with Japanese military PX, so, he knew many IJ soldiers. On the contrary, since their psychological trauma and survivor’s guilt were sometimes evident, the people around were often sympathetic and tried to console them, according to my mother and she heard such stories from her father. I understand the portrayal in the film tried to symbolise some real cultural aspects of Japan at that time, but, please understand those scenes such as with the neighbour lady wasn’t a documentary after all.

I definitely appreciate you correcting me and giving me more insight into the culture regarding kamikaze pilots, any time I say something incorrectly I do appreciate being corrected in an informed way. Also glad you enjoyed my chaotic review haha

Interesting though I actually thought most people were being sympathetic toward him when it was brought out. The Mechanics were a mixed bag because the war was still going on. And the Head Mechanic blamed him for not killing Godzilla when he had the chance, thus affirming his cowardice, from my take, anyhow, more than for failing as a Kamikaze itself. Only other person I saw truly react negatively toward him was his neighbor, and I believe it had as much, or more, to do with grieving her lost children, than his actual survival. But I also am not Japanese, so I freely admit I may have missed nuances in the storytelling and dialogue, especially as subtitles are rarely 100% accurate in translating the message. Regardless it was a mindblowingly good film.

Godzilla didn’t have the ability to regenerate on Odo island. It was a result of being exposed to the nuke near Bikini. If Shikishima had shot he might have hurt Godzilla. However according to the novelization, if nobody had shot Godzilla would have left them alone

One of the only movies I can think of besides maybe Shin Godzilla, where he is actually terrifying.
@LuneistYT7 ай бұрын
I agree
@pinkfloydguy77817 ай бұрын
In the original 1954 film, he is definitely still terrifying, IF you can suspend your disbelief, and kind of put yourself back in time in terms of your expectations for special effects. The first time he’s seen, there’s no music, people are just hearing his roar and then they see his head slowly come up over the hilltop, and the scene is just presented so matter-of-factly that it’s kind of immersive even to this day. Again, you have to be able to sort of “reset” your mind and meet it where it’s at.

The director himself was asked if he made the film with a budget of $15 million, and he said that if he had that much money, he could have afforded to produce it more. Surprisingly, the actual budget was much less.
@LuneistYT6 ай бұрын
That’s even more impressive hopefully they give him more money for his future movies, he deserves it

And that's my opinion there is no perfect greatest film all films can be the greatest ones in there own right with its flaws and bad CGI
@jamesbrice66196 ай бұрын
@bioshock6935 the CGI in this movie was FAR superior to anything Hollywood has put out. If not necessarily technically, then aesthetically. There are great CGI movies such as Avatar and others, but I always feel like I'm watching a glorified cartoon. Didn't feel this way at all watching Godzilla. In short, Hollywood sux
@bioshock69356 ай бұрын
I haven't seen this film yet i have heard all good things about it and it only cost 15 million to make. I do agree with you on films are like watching a glorified cartoon when it comes to over use of cgi and of late there looking bad. why i don't watch them now as soon as trailer is realised you can see how bad they look just like the new mad max film coming out going by that trailer it's just don't look real the background looks so fake half the time

@misaelestrada53707 ай бұрын
Nope, it's a good movie but it's not a masterpiece. The acting was exagerated, the story is mid and the CGI looks unfinished in some parts, but for the budget it's great. Good movie but overhyped in my opinion.
@LuneistYT7 ай бұрын
Fair opinion, but I truly think it’s a masterpiece through and through
@jamesbrice66196 ай бұрын
Sorry, but I completely disagree. I'm 64 and a movie fanatic. People act differently in different cultures I saw Japanese acting as Japanese. I STRONGLY disagree with you on the CGI. I think most American CGI looks like garbage compared to this film
@misaelestrada53706 ай бұрын
@@jamesbrice6619My girldfriend is Japanese, we saw the movie and we loved it but even she thought the acting was exagerated, the CGI looks good but it does look rough in many parts specially in the train and the Atomic Breath scene, it does look better than many hollywood movies but I just don't see anything special besides the low budget.

Most overrated movie of all time. Great for a 15 million dollar movie. But not a great movie at all.
@YungLilBoii7 ай бұрын
@rhinoman86 pay attention to the weird stuff that a Hollywood movie wouldn't be able to get away with. Like when the girl falls from the train, from like 50+ feet, and they made it seem like 10 feet. Tiny little *plop* splash. Or how the reporters on top of the roof are acting like Godzilla is like a mile away instead of literally right next to them. Or how when the tow boats magically all hook up to the destroyers in 1 second. Or how a tiny fighter jet barely fits in the mouth of a 200-foot Godzilla. Not that any of that stuff makes the movie "bad," but if those things were in a Hollywood movie, people would have laughed themselves out of the theater. It's super amateurish stuff. There's lots to like about it, but it's in no way a masterpiece. Small budget masterpiece, yes. Or how the girl in the end ended up living after everything around got incinerated? Literally, buildings got toppled, but she only ended up with a black eye and a boo boo arm? Gimme a break. Oh, or when the Godzilla just o liberated a destroyer yet couldn't catch up to a tiny wooden boat going 10 miles per hour. LOL. I don't usually get bothered by such things, but it was scene after scene of inconsistencies.
@YungLilBoii7 ай бұрын
@rhinoman86 I had no idea that it was small budget either until I took to the internet. I was wonder what people were freaking out about because I thought it was just a fine movie, but nothing amazing. THEN I found out people thought it was good because of the low budget. Don't get me wrong, big budget Hollywood movies are usually terrible, but that doesn't make this movie great. Story was very good, I agree. CGI was unbelievably good. But the acting? It reminded me of 30's Amerian acting. "Myehhh, see!". Over acting, almost theatrical, rather than believable. Just not my cup of tea. Again, it's a good movie, just riddled with inconsistencies and weird amateur stuff. Not at all a masterpiece...
@YungLilBoii7 ай бұрын
@rhinoman86 Oh, and as for what you asked, I haven't watched many movies this last year, but my favorite TV shows I've watched this year are: Sopranos, The Bear, and Arrested Development.
@YungLilBoii7 ай бұрын
@rhinoman86 I think we're kinda on the same page. I think we both agree that it's at least a very good movie. I just think calling it a masterpiece is a wild overreaction. And I'm pretty sure its only getting that reception because of its shockingly low budget.
@Bigxmoney.7 ай бұрын
100% agree! Movie was alright, great for 15m but not a masterpiece film. Then again, the bar for a good Godzilla movie is low 😂
