I see it more as him wanting to get Kong out of the way as soon as possible so he can focus on his real goal. That's why he spent most of this fight attempting to incinerate Kong rather than fighting mono-on-mono.

I love how the movie didn't shy away from the fact that Kong having no special powers was at a clear disadvantage against Godzilla's ranged ability, given how this has been the ever present elephant in the room whenever the topic of Kong vs Godzilla comes up, to the point that the 1962 movie had to hilariously give Kong electric ability to even the field. The first round of the Hong Kong fight was pretty much Kong doing everything he can to stop Godzilla from firing the atomic breath or not get hit with it, until he got the axe hit in.
@coryl.3567
@coryl.3567 2 жыл бұрын
True to all of that, but to be fair, Kong having a special ability in the original made sense. Godzilla has atomic breath, which is cool, but doesn't really make sense. I've seen EVERY Godzilla movie, including the 1954 original, and his atomic breath is never explained in detail as to how he even has it.

@@coryl.3567 In the original, it was supposed to be a metaphor for nuclear weapons. And then it stuck with the character pretty much even when the character moved away dramatically from its original incarnation, without ever being explained properly with a biological reason.

And yet right before Godzilla started spamming the atomic breath Kong gave a seriously nice combo of punches that prevent him that..showing that even with disadvantage he can put up a fight. I just wish the battle would focus on that more rather than be mostly Kong dodging the laser

@@kiryu286 Godzilla's Personality in the MonsterVerse: In Godzilla, Godzilla's behavior is that of a territorial animal, Ishiro Serizawa theorized that Godzilla is the driving force to restore balance to nature whenever that balance is disrupted, suggesting that he essentially considers the entire Earth to be his territory. However, unlike previous incarnations, Godzilla doesn't blatantly attack or plow through ships at sea simply because they're there, in fact, with larger ships like aircraft carriers, he simply dives under them, even when the military launched a combined forces assault to stop him, he didn't react or fight back, and simply continued to hunt the MUTOs, even when he was being flanked by four naval ships. As opposed to any sort of morality, it appears to be that he simply considers humans to be tiny and insignificant and does not care about their general well-being but at the same time does not consider them worth destroying even though they, without harming him at all, fire at him nonstop. Godzilla does not seem to destroy on purpose, even when he destroyed the Golden Gate Bridge, it did not appear to be intentional, but just him reacting from being hit in the gills by explosives. He displays little interest in humans and focuses his attention entirely on the MUTOs. His supposed disinterest in the well-being of humans may be caused by their repeated attempts to kill him, the same attempt that showcased their destructive capabilities. After defeating both MUTOs, he leaves humans alone without any more conflict. However, Godzilla does occasionally display signs of advanced thinking, as he is seen adapting his strategies to fight the MUTOs and even uses sleight-of-hand to trick the male MUTO into approaching his tail, which he uses to impale him on a fallen skyscraper. He appears to possess some degree of emotion as he briefly looks Ford Brody in the eye when he collapses to his level, which also could suggest that he has at least some degree of interest in humans. Godzilla was designed to have a personality that would evoke the "last samurai" archetype, an ancient warrior content with solitude and preferring not to be a part of the world but has to resurface when certain types of events force him to appear and set things right. Godzilla's most notable relationships with other Titans are with MUTOs, Mothra, Ghidorah, and Kong. With Mothra, they are true allies, more so than their past incarnations that were prone to be at odds with each other since their species have symbiotic relationships with one another. Mothra's undying loyalty towards Godzilla is best demonstrated when she assists him in their fight against Ghidorah and Rodan, using her webs to glue Ghidorah onto a skyscraper, and incapacitating Rodan after he fought her. Their ancient alliance had been defined in romantic terms, with Dr. Ilene Chen calling Mothra "Queen of the Monsters" and Chief Warrant Officer Jackson Barnes questioning if "they got a thing going on", though subsequently Dr. Sam Coleman clarifying it as a "symbiotic relationship". As she died, Godzilla roared in grief while he absorbed her life-force, allowing him to go thermonuclear and vaporized Ghidorah. Following the battle, Godzilla had not forgotten Mothra's sacrifice, and her gift of life led him to find a new home. Godzilla perceived MUTOs as uneasy ally at best through Queen MUTO who submits to him as her alpha and both deadly pests and natural enemy at worst through the conflict with MUTO couple he killed at San Fransisco and MUTO Prime. Lastly, in the case of Ghidorah and Kong, the two are Godzilla's fierce rivals as shown in various cave paintings where he is depicted fighting alternatively with one of them for different reasons; whereas with the former, their feud could be best described as the battle between light and darkness owing to the extraterrestrial Titan's malicious nature and desire to lay waste upon Earth, Godzilla and Kong battled each other because of their species' long-standing rivalry, but the two nevertheless willing to put aside their difference in facing a common threat. After defeating Mechagodzilla together, the two make amends to each other and went on separate ways on better terms. When Godzilla becomes the alpha again after defeating Ghidorah, he does not attack the other Titans who followed Ghidorah and instead spares them when they swear their allegiance to him again. During his rule, Godzilla works to keep his fellow Titans from causing chaos and submit some who defy him, like Scylla and Tiamat. He also starts to care for the well-being of the human race and seeks the balance between both kinds, as evidenced by a clipping in the end credits mentioning that Godzilla is keeping the other Titans from attacking major human settlements. However, he also attacked some Titan traffickers that were trying to capture Na Kika. Ultimately, he sends all the Titans to hibernation, deciding that maintaining all of them under control was too much for him to handle. In Godzilla vs. Kong, Godzilla is shown to possess the capacity to become aggressive and violent towards humans and Titans alike if he is provoked, something Madison Russell acknowledged as it was not his nature to wreak havoc upon human settlements without cause or reason. He wreaked havoc upon Apex Cybernetics' facilities upon sensing that its human occupants were hiding what he sensed to be an alpha that was challenging him (the new ORCA was making alpha calls) that Godzilla calls the Hidden One. Godzilla eventually faces the one he calls "the Hidden One" in the form of the destructive, out-of-control Mechagodzilla - influenced by Ghidorah's remains grafted into its systems - and would've continued what the extraterrestrial Titan started had he and Kong failed to stop it. Godzilla's mission to eliminate the threat came into the conflict of Kong who - though having nothing to do with Ghidorah's resurgence - is an example of Godzilla's willingness to eliminate those who oppose him from his goal, in addition to their species' past conflicts. While he displayed brutal and prideful tendencies when fighting Kong at Hong Kong, as he gave off a particularly menacing grin followed by a grumble evocative of a chuckle of sorts when he singed Kong's back with his atomic breath, Godzilla's confrontation with Kong was partly due to frustration by his rival unknowingly deterring him from stopping Apex Cybernetics twice. However, this didn't stop him from sparing the ape-like Titan's life since the latter was not the threat he sought and to a subtle degree, Kong's defiance in the face of defeat earning him the King of the Monsters' respect. This noble decision ultimately saved his life during a hopeless fight against Mechagodzilla, since it allowed Kong to assist his likely ally against a common enemy.

@@nickbutcher760 This movie will get the credit it deserves if we, the fans, go out & talk about it. Even for homies who don't like Godzilla, a lot of the franchise staples & tropes they like in whatever movie series probably originated, or were at least done much better first, in a Godzilla film. --Cinematic Universe--maybe not first, but Toho was doing it decades before the MCU was even a sparkle in Feige's eye. --Cross Overs--def not first, but better than the Universal monster crossovers from the 1930s & 1940s --In-depth Lore/Mythos--if some other franchise/series older than Godzilla seriously did this beforehand & anyone can think of one, I'd love for you to correct me lol --Scope/scale/action--Ppl unjustly trash on the miniatures, suits, and action from the Showa era, but the sfx & action in Godzilla movies are generally great, & mini-cities will always look better than CG cities. Plus, you wouldn't get any action scenes near the scope/scale of the city-smashing antics from Godzilla until Star Wars in '77. --Macro-stories--Universal def had none with their og monster films, & even though Destroy All Monsters wasn't the end for Godzilla, the journey to that film was done a helluva lot better than the (huge Star Wars fan talking) Star Wars sequel trilogy --Music--everybody knows Godzilla's theme song & his motif --Characters changing movie-to-movie--Godzilla goes from being the epitome of pure evil &/or tragedy to being Japan's super hero & other kaiju go from being enemies, to allies, to friends --Villains--Godzilla is a great villain & antihero when the story needs him to be, Ghidorah may mostly be a wimp but he's still iconic, & Mechagodzilla was the perfect villain to end the Showa era on --Reboots--doing it since '84, & unlike all the crappy contemporary reboots, Godzilla reboots *actually* change things & justify their existence --Legacy characters--Godzilla, Rodan, Anguirus, Mothra, Ghidorah, & Mechagodzilla are all-time classics & they don't have to stay as heroes or villains either in a single continuity or from continuity to continuity. They also aren't tied to certain actors who have played them, either (for the ones that were played by actors in suits &/or mo-cap, so that's another win for whenever they've rebooted Godzilla in the past, or will do it again in the future --Variety--You've got aliens, ghosts, robots, spies, mutants, etc. (seriously don't know why Toho hasn't put zombies in a G-Film yet) throughout the whole series. Films range from character drama, horror, sci-fi, political satire, adventure, surrealism, fantasy, thriller, sci-fi, anything in between, & any combination of, unlike every Marvel movie almost being the same & almost every (big fan of this too lmao) DC movie stupidly trying to copy the MCU style. Even though most of the films take place in Japan, you've got some ocean battles, island settings, & a few globe-trotters. --Dinosaurs--I do not like the Jurassic Park sequels lol, but those movies would *not* exist without Godzilla What I'm saying is, G-Fans need to remind homies why Godzilla movies are awesome, important, & need to be talked about more. Thanks for coming to my TedTalk. Have a great day.

If Godzilla were to be defeated or killed after only a few hits or a little damage then you wouldnt have a movie or it would be a very bad, disappointing movie that would only be about 15min long and the rest would just be the human characters and king kong just hanging out.

It is kind of a problem to think about. The movie shows a bunch of people going into bunkers but theres still clearly a bunch of people in the city. Monarch can track Godzilla, so they shouldve been able to warn the city long before his arrival. I think a line in the movie about evacuating and securing the populationbefore Godzilla gets there and only having reaction shots from choppers and Monarch staff wouldve been a good idea.

something interesting to notice if you pay attention, when Godzilla is trying to fire his atomic breath the first time, Kong grapples his head and tries to rip his jaw apart. This is the callback to Kong's fight with the T-Rex in the original King Kong movie and the fight with the V-Rexes in the 2005 Kong movie. It seems like all Kongs retain the memory of what works best against a dinosaurian opponent, though Godzilla seems aware of this and keeps twisting to keep Kong off balance and negate the move.

@woffledude5556
@woffledude5556 2 жыл бұрын
A word. Pacific Rim's fights, despite featuring significantly smaller combatants, still feel heavier and more brutal than the fights in this movie. Every move in every fight of Pacific Rim is deliberate, thought out, and every exchange progresses the fight. Here, Kong is just running around 90% of the time. Even when a Kaiju runs away in Pacific Rim, it's only briefly, and it's followed up by an ambush, and then the Jaeger strategically and creatively retaliates, instead of just doing the exact same thing as it had tried earlier(such as going at Godzilla with an axe that had failed twice prior). I'm not saying that thus movie's fights are bad,I actually think they're very entertaining, but Pacific Rim is still leagues ahead.

I've been waiting my entire life for this movie & this fight since watching the English dub of King Kong vs Godzilla. This isn't a perfect movie, but it really fills me with joy.

Reminds me of the Hong Kong fight scene of the 2013 film "Pacific Rim". One of the things that I like about the Hong Kong fight scene of Godzilla vs. Kong is how the buildings are lit up with neon lights.

It’s so annoying. It’s especially annoying when they say stuff like, can we just take a moment to commend Godzilla’s durability. They act like every moment isn’t about Godzilla, like somehow giving Godzilla recognition is in the minority.

@@adyan4010 stop your own theory... Director just said Godzilla didn't use his full power and didn't go with Killing mode because kong was just a distraction to Godzilla and his main motive was Apex weapon he never said that Godzilla was toying with Kong
