Sheri has had this GoGo Elite mobility scooter for a few years now. Overall, it's been a great little scooter. However, like anything electronic - it has had a few issues; The stock battery is too small, it lurches, the battery doesn't charge, batteries don't work at all.
I gloss over the problems we've had with it here, as I disassemble the major components.

Thanks so much for taking the time to do this video! It's very helpful. (And you'd never know that instructional videos aren't your thang. You're a natural.) I will keep tuned... and no doubt send questions your way. At the moment we're trouble-shoot-ing the battery not charging and you've given us a few possibilities to explore.

THANK YOU so very much for these videos. I bought one of these for my wife and it has been wonderful. I had a repair where the connector was damaged. Then the battery pack swelled from overcharge probably and I replaced the batteries from Monster. Thanks again.

as to the broken rear handle, it is easy to repair. Major home improvement stores have a wrap that you soak in water and then wrap and mold in place and let harden. I think it is for garden tool handles anyway worked great for my scooter handle. Have used it for a couple of years now.

Just bought 2, one 3 wheeler and one 4 wheeler, neither work. I'm going to try the batteries first, and probably a new charger as you suggested. I agree they parallel , Guess I'll be watching all your videos. I appreciate it, Thanks for taking the time. My scooters are exactly like yours, a little older. Like me

Big Thank You for taking the time to document this! Our experience - bought one about 5 years ago. When it works it's TERRIFIC! But, when it has trouble it's difficult. (1) Damaged several times by airlines; now we rent locally if we can but bring it along if we must... including a trip to China! (2) Have experienced the problem with the battery terminal connection getting weird, and diddling with the contacts; seems to help. (3) Have worn out one battery and bought another from the authorized service guy. (4) Have had difficult service with Wright and Fillipis - big seller of durable medical equipment in SE Michigan. We are trying a different company this time to see if they are easier to work with. They eventually got the job done but prices are high and service procedures are inconvenient. (5) Have had trouble with the transaxle. The setting lever - drive, freewheel, lock - does not have fixed stops, so it seems to wiggle out of position, perhaps based on vibration. Other times it seems to get loose. My theory is that the design is poor - it should have positive stops in the 3 positions but it doesn't. (6) We are facing another repair. We are able and willing to invest in repair but are considering a competitor. Any suggestions? Again --- thanks for recording the info!

Repairs should be cheap. That's my opinion, in general. I wouldn't send it out to get repaired. They're going to charge too much, and probably just replace the faulty component. You can do that yourself (depending on your level of disability). Really, there are only a few things that ever need replacing: 1) The brain (electronics). Really should only be necessary to replace if it is smashed or if it gets wet inside. If you're good with electronics - you could even solder in the effected part. 2) The batteries. They're batteries. Batteries die with time and with use. 3) The battery/sled connectors. Vibration and (dis)assembly cause these to wear out. 4) Wheels. They go bald over time. Flats happen too. 5) Transaxle. stress and vibration can cause bearings to break. The gears are pretty large/deep. They will never strip. 6) Motor. It should last a lifetime, but parts to wear out/down over time. Anyway, that's really it. If you're having an issue - it's one of those things. Most of all my issues have been with the connectors, and getting bad batteries from stores. My current batteries have lasted several years.

I got a wicker basket for my little dog to ride in that I mounted on the front the basket was designed for mobility scooter ..I hated the back basket for the same reason you mentioned ..I also changed the seat I took the mount hardware off the seat and attached it to a piece of plywood which I glued 4 inch cushion foam and upholstered and tufted the seat which has no back or arms but is so much more comfortable...I have an full size electric chair I use full time but it is so heavy and cumbersome that without a wheelchair lift going anywhere is impossible ..I also found if any snow or ice is on the ground my 20,000 dollar custom tilt wheelchair just will not go you would think for that price it could get through the smallest amount of snow..I would use my scooter fulltime but I have a condition where I need my legs up or I get severe pain and swelling so I can only be in the scooter an hour or 2..great video !I subscribed!

As for taking the scooter on a trip, I strongly suggest drilling a hole through the seat post and the pole the seat fits in and securing seat to the scooter with a removable pin. Seat won't come off if the luggagemen try and pick up the scooter by the seat and scooter is dropped. This happened to me in the Istanbul airport and scooter was broken. Luckily this was on the way home so trip was not ruined. I also carry a replacment key and spare fuses, etc in the back seat pouch which I secure by wrapping a bungie cord around the eat - those pouches can come open with rough handling . I also use one to further secure the battery box to the scooter floor. I've picked up my scooter several times at the airport and it's been left on its side which can cause the battery box to pop out and perhaps getting damaged. My GoGo has been all over Europe from Sweden to Italy and from Spain to Hungary, So. America, etc.

Hi - watched your video as I have a GoGo also. You are one dedicated and determined husband. My question/suggestion is that if you think it's finally time to give up and replace it there are some really compact scooters on the market these days and they are FSA compliant to go right on the plane. You said you traveled a lot. I just purchased one that opens and closes automatically with a remote and you can wheel it behind you like a suitcase when closed. It's amazing! the Transformer by Solax. Or check out the Luggie Elite which is very much the same except manually operated. Good luck and I hope you have less work ahead in your future!!

Thanks for posting this video and as a 5 year gogo user and as an electronic "expert" I wanted to comment on a few of your points. You mention some things with the comment of "problems we can expect" and I don't think an airline breaking the console fits that category. Also you said the "brain" was in the tiller console but the console really doesn't have any electronics in it, any that run the scooter that is. The brain or controller for our gogo's in right under where we put our feet. I wish it was up higher as I am worried about it getting wet just from running over wet streets. I wish I could water proof it but I would worry about it over heating if I did. You talked about the loose battery connectors and I have had to do the exact thing you did but on my larger Revo. I have considered hard wiring in the battery connections using anderson connectors if my revo connectors get too loose. You mentioned buying batteries at RS and that is the last place I would think would be a good place to buy. The number one reason for bad batteries at purchase are buying stale batteries that have sit on a shelf for 6 months plus. I always buy from a place that sells alot of the batteries I am purchasing and I always make sure I am not buying cheap Chinese knockoffs as those are usually small batteries in large cases. You can tell this by comparing the weight. I know the electronics on these scooters so if I can help you in any way I would be happy to.

Hey, any help you can share... everyone would appreciated it. This video has had a few views, so it's obviously a subject people wish to know more about. As you know, I'm not an expert. However, as a consumer, I am an expert. The point of the video wasn't really to show the mechanical issues of the GoGo, but to just share some of the problems I've had with it and what I've done to mitigate them, including the problems of traveling with it. eg. Don't fold it up, because the airlines with throw it. It would probably be a good idea to have a video that shows all the workings of the GoGo, but I'd be completely over my head if I tried.

Thank you so much. My concern is actually taking it with me, into the aircraft to do my transit flights? I noticed that in Singapore I was pushed in a wheelchair for about 30 minutes in a very fast pace. About 7 Km/h the poor Lady that pushed the wheelchair was exhausted because it was a 35 min Transit. I really felt sorry for her because I was double her size and the flor was carpet all the way.

I have enjoyed using an earlier version of the same scooter and for a number of years suffering from osteo arthritis in my knees, and getting both knees replaced and having poor recovery. I have only had to have electronic brake replaced and have replaced original charger and sealed gel type batteries. The higher capacity batteries are considerably heavier. I use my scooter while flying radio controlled model planes, motorhoming, zoo trips, etc. I carry my Elite Traveler disassembled behind the rear seat in our Subaru Forester.

Also, if caught in a rainstorm, water can get under the battery box causing a 'stop and go' problem. Remove box, tilt the scooter to draun or soak up water there and PRESTO scooter will work again. I am going to see about drilling a drain hole in each recessed area under the box, if there is no problem in drilling something else. I keep an oversized plastic pancho with hood in the rear pocket, so if a storm pops up, the pancho will fit over handle bars and the seat keeping me and the scooter dry. Hope these comments will help you.

do yourselves a favor & next time you need batteries get lithium batteries but first check what is max size you can use on the unit I think the go go can have up to 12V 50AH. but check with pride or see if your owners manual says. with lithiums you drop half the weight of them you can almost double your range, & there by gain a bit in power & speed. I personally own 3 second hand scooters a Pride Ralley ( which is comparable to the Go Go) Victory (my first unit ) & now my Afikim c4 . I also do my own work as non of them have warranty so Parts prices are a bit outrageously over priced. But anyway I have litiums in all of them & I promise it will be a bit pricey but so totally worth it! great video . I'm a new fan

Hi - Thank you so much for this video... I've had mine for years and didn't realize that the arms came off (and are adjustable) and that the chair stem came off. I have a problem, perhaps you've dealt with it. My throttle lever kind of sprung apart one day and now the "auto-off" doesn't function and the throttle sometimes sticks in the forward position. I'm pretty sure there were springs that are gone and they need installed. Pride will not provide an assembly diagram. Any idea what's needed and how to do this? Thanks in Advance.

Nice video. One item I noticed on my wife's Go-Go. It was not going that fast as before. In checking it, I find the lever is a bit loose. In looking at it it takes a 1/3 movement to get the cart to move. The forward and reverse arm will move a lot. So removing the 4 screws that hold my top cover on (there are different tops), I push the wire going in at the bottom of the handle tube to get the plastic connection at top up enough to pop off the 6 connector plug (there is a clip you have to pop up to release the plug). I then lift up the lever and see there is a tiny Allen wrench nut in there. After 20 min I find my Allen wrench bag and find this second to smallest Allen wrench. It put on the arm, tighten it snug (not too tight) and put it all back together (10 min if I had the Allen wrench). We do a Walmart trip and she is racing ahead of me. So if your forward/reverse are is loose, and can move a distance forward and back, that Allen nut is most likely loose. Since, when loose, it can only go back before hitting the handle, the speed control is not moving to full speed. My model also has a "fancy" cover by the speed dial, and hides the screws. They snap off by a small slot towards the seat. You only need to catch the cover snap to get it off. Don't try to take off the cover held on by screws.

I'd secure a nice bit of smooth plywood to that broken handle and cover it in waterproof duct tape. I've done stuff like that before (on other things) and it's been stronger than before. I prefer practicality over style, if I have to.

One way to repair what you used for a handle at the back is to get some aluminum stock. 3/16 x 1" or whatever size you determine works for you and sanwich one on top and bottom of the plastic. It may pput stresses at each end but it will be stronger. Again se screws, washers and nylock or aircraft nuts as some call them. That way they don't come loose and get lost.

They will reunite you with the scooter at the terminal. If you need a wheelchair to get from your seat to the terminal, they'll provide it. They stow the scooter with the luggage, and they put it on last, so it gets off first. It's best to just leave it together. They have a tendency to throw things, and if it's a compact box - they might throw it.

awesome video! my mother just passed and i got her gogo elite traveller. i assume that because the scooter just sat for 2-3 months while she was in the hospital that the batteries are dead because it wont charge at all. i have tried multiple chargers and checked connections and fuses. so i have resigned myself to the fact that i will have to buy new batteries. i got a wealth of information from your video and all of the comments. did i misunderstand when you said that the original batteries only get 4 miles out of a full charge? i see that many have stated this is not a long range scooter but was hoping to use it on my trip to walt disney world. i assume i should get batteries with a higher capacity? what would you recommend? i know that the average person walks at least 10 miles per day in disney. also, i see you prefer radio shack for batteries but i dont see any on their website for this scooter. i know, a lot of questions but i have no other resources. thank you in advance!

Sorry. It is a pain. I tend to replace both the charger and batteries at the same time. You may not need both, but if you find that you're charger was fine - you'll now have a backup, or vice-versa with the battery. Someone on another thread explained to me that the charger is probably fine, and that it's likely the connector that's the problem. The problem with this is that for most of us the point is moot. We are consumers, not electrical engineers. In my case, I may have some ability to figure things out, but when it gets down to a diode or capacitor - I'm just buying a new unit. Anyway, that's my advise - get a new charger as well as battery. you may not need both, but the problem is one of them for certain. Once you have the new batteries - you can try your old charger, and if you're really inspired you can return the new charger (unopened).

Hi, I have a similar scooter a GoGo Elite Traveler Plus made in 2009. I'm really frustrated. I did go on YT and watched your video and others. Seemed like it was the brake assembly. Purchased one online and I put it on, no change under similar situation, did the same thing so I sent it back. So I do know what it is NOT. lol. I bought it for $75 and it needed batteries. Bought new. It ran GREAT for 2 weeks. Took it on short trips around town and longer ones. Then one day it took me out of my parking lot and when it started going down hill it beeped stopped and started to roll slowly. Good they don't roll well with the key on! When I pushed it to turn it around it would go for a few yards and stop. I got it back up the hill and when it started down the parking lot it did it over and over till I just had to push it home. It was beeping but it was beeping like mad. 2 different types of beeping and it was hard to count them. Also the gauge was swinging back and forth from all the way on to all the way off, back and forth like a windshield wiper. So I said all that to ask, if it isn't the brake assembly, what do you think I can try. No one in my area will even look at it because of the age and they are all backed up with customers.
@marc.newman
@marc.newman 6 жыл бұрын
Anything I say is a total guess. That said, if the scooter does not roll with the key out - the brake is fine. I believe you have a short somewhere. It's most likely it's one of the 4 wires leading to the brake. I, in fact, have to change the brake on my scooter. My brake isn't working. The scooter rolls downhill when stopped. There's no beeping. I believe it's rusted and it's possible I could fix it... but, I don't trust rust. I'd bet that the brake would never work again properly, even if I cleaned it inside and out. So, I have ordered a new one. Anyway, check your wires. You might have to test them with a meter. Sorry, I don't know what the readings should be. I'd have to look the stats up, myself.

Normally the charger itself is fine, but the cable or connector gets damaged. So, focus on fixing the cable/plug and it will probably work again. It's just too easy to drive away with the charger connected, or pull the plug out by the cable. Both of these damage the cable, so it's the first thing to go.

Before I discovered your great video - my scooter kept stopping, every time I hit a bump - took it to a shop and of course they were happy to sell me new batteries! Now I know that probably not necessary - continued to stop. ahha, the sockets that connect the battery. I have since deformed them and rarely have a stop and when I do, a back kick to the battery case gets me going again. I suspect I was a bit too timid about attacking those sockets. I was concerned about them not allowing the pins to seat. I am thinking that I perhaps should put more push on those little sockets. How much vigor is it safe to apply to those sockets? It appears as if I am less likely to loose connection if I rest my heels on the case. I have to do my own work, so taking down the seat/battery is a bit of a struggle for me. I use the smaller battery because weight can stop me!

I have a Pride Scooter GO Go Elite It has work well for 3 years. This is after the wiring was replaced under warranty. My wife went to use the scooter, and it wouldn't go. When I got home I took the battery compartment out. There was a wire loose, not connected. I've look for 5 weeks now I can't see were it goes.. The wire comes off the controller box. It is the second connection on the box. The wire has these numbers on it. 204051 E187208 2454 The connector that plugs into the controller box 4 terminal plug. A green, red, black, and blue wire going into it. The controller box number is. D51357.01 The wire is 11 inches long. It looks like it has to go into the battery area, but I can't see were. I've been working with a tect from pride. She tells me the wire goes nowhere. At the end of the wire is a small piece of metal. I can't believe a company would do this. Have any ideas ? Thanks

Have you had any experience with lubricant dripping by the wheel? And do you have any suggestions on how to fix that?
@HaoleDreamer
@HaoleDreamer 3 жыл бұрын
Dripping lubricant from the wheel? If you mean the front wheel - it must be coming from the sealed bearing, though there isn't a lot of lubricant. The front wheel(s) use skateboard bearings. You can replace them super easily and cheaply (under $20). However, the real wheels don't have the bearings in the wheels. There shouldn't be any lubricant in the rear wheels. That said, the axle does have bearings and should have a little lubricant, as well. The first thing would be to identify where the fluid is coming from. My guess is that it's coming from the transaxle itself, as is grease, which would mean a seal was broken.

Hi, thanks for a very informative video. Trying to help trouble shoot my friend's Go Go Elite Traveler. Won't power up - replacing charger and fuses before doing anything else. Lots of beeps when we initially plugged in the charger the other day after they haven't used for months. Wish I would have counted the beeps but didn't. I think it needs to be reset. There appears to be a silicone bubble similar to a prime pump button on a gas powered device such as a trimmer or edger but doesn't appear to have a switch or button beneath the bubble. Do I need to use something to depress the silicone bubble to reach a switch inside the battery case? Thanks in advance for your help.
@marc.newman
@marc.newman 9 жыл бұрын
mkcharland The bubble is a cover for the breaker. Just push the bubble in. You will feel a click if the breaker was triggered. The bubble will pop out after pressing it. The bubble is just there to keep water off the switch underneath it. I don't think that's the issue, though. The battery is probably just dead. These (wet cell) batteries don't do well if they fully discharge. It's best to keep them charged as much as possible. Usually, when they fully discharge (eg. sit for a long time) they become useless and can't take a charge anymore. The charger and the rest of the scooter is probably fine. The batteries are probably the issue.

The lever is to the brake. The lever is probably rusted/bound to the brake body. If you spray some WD40 on where it touches the brake - it may come loose. I wouldn't force it because the lever is pretty soft and will bend pretty easily.

I'm looking at buying new batteries... the ones I have sat for too long without a charge and appears to be dead. Can anyone tell me how complicated it is to add the batteries to the battery case? It appears that when you open the case the two batteries just pop in. (or is that wishful thinking?) I know you said it was a pain to do it- why so? Do you know of a video that shows the process? I'm thinking about up-ing the AH to 18... I don't use it a lot (yet). For some reason I'm having trouble finding a new casing and battery set. Any advice is appreciated!
@marc.newman
@marc.newman 9 жыл бұрын
Amy Gurowitz You need a long phillips screwdriver. Once the case is opened, the two batteries are easy to change. You'll have to unscrew the wires from the batteries too. The "pain" is really just the unscrewing/screwing of the case. It's easy enough to do, but it does take about 15 minutes to 1/2 hour to do (all said and done).

I just went to the auto-part store and got some automotive multi-purpose/high-temp grease. Something that is/was rated for transmissions. The loads and temperature will not be the same in the scooter, but they both have the same needs. Both are not going to see debris. So, what is good for a car transmission is good for the scooter.

Do you know what causes a cricket rubbing binding hoping noise from the tires that develops over time, we had the guy out and he said the tires just need to be cleaned and we saw him take the tires off and work the rubber of the tire around the hub cap portion, and the noise went away. Ron Malinowski, Jr. Sorry, I've haven't removed the rubber, myself. I suspect a bicycle tire removal tool would work to take the tire off. I suspect the noise is the rubber moving on the wheel hub while you drive. If I had this issue I would add some silicone adhesive to the hub when I put the tire back on.

@marc.newman
@marc.newman 8 ай бұрын
A connection loosened, and now electricity can't flow. The typical culprit is between the battery box and the sled. The battery is heavy and wobbles when you go over obstacles. This loosens the connections over time. I would look at the connections and squeeze the metal sleeves (in the connector) tighter with a pair of needle nose pliers (be gentle). The loose connection can be anywhere, but it's most likely going to be between two body pieces. The issue can also be in the brain, but that is far more unlikely. Also, be sure to check the fuse/breaker on the battery. It pops out when the battery is overloaded. Just push it back in.

Thank you very much for sharing your insights. I have new batteries (purchased in March) but my scooter keeps stalling out as if it's run out of battery. I'll turn the key, all the lights turn to solid green dots, I push the lever and it goes very quickly from all green dots to single red and dies. I used to take it to the Zoo, State Fair and miles around my neighborhood, but now, I can't even get out of the garage. I've had my batteries checked twice at Batteries Plus and was told they are fully charged. Went home, installed my battery pack, turned the key and shortly stalled out again as if the batteries were dying. Any thoughts? Thank you very much!!
@marc.newman
@marc.newman 6 жыл бұрын
If when your scooter dies, and recharging the batteries works for a short while, then the batteries are not holding a charge. It could be bad cells within the batteries. They'll show up as fully charged, when in fact, not all the cells in the battery are holding a charge. I have found that "Batteries Plus" have the worst batteries. I have had to return all the batteries I have bought from them. I would not trust them. Your best bet is www.monsterscooterparts.com.

I don't know which scooter you have, so I can't say which you should buy. However, here is a place to start: www.monsterscooterparts.com/mobility/mobility-categories/mobility-scooter-batteries/baboxas Find the battery box for your scooter and see if there are any larger boxes that fit your scooter. Then, find batteries that fit that box. You may also already have the largest possible battery box. Some scooters are sold with the larger battery configurations.

I am having problems to remove the seat on a GoGo for break down. Any suggestions?
@marc.newman
@marc.newman 5 жыл бұрын
I assume that you just mean that you're having trouble lifting the seat off the scooter. Yeah, it can be a bit sticky. Here's the trick: 1) Fold the back down. 2) put each handoff either side of the seat, facing the chair. 3) Make sure your hands are exactly in-line with the post below, and your body directly above the chair. 4) Lift. As you lift, rotate the seat. The issue is that if you put any lateral pressure on the post - it binds and it doesn't want to slip out. Meaning, if you grab the seat from the front or stand to the side as you pull-up... you will pull the entire scooter with the chair.

This is probably a loose connection. The battery/sled connection is the weakest link. It's possible to tighten up the connection a bit. If you look at the metal female ends you'll see that they're spread a little. You can squeeze them closed a little. Of course, this isn't really a fix, as the metal will just get weaker, but it will work for a little while longer.

How did you fix the lurking forward?
@HaoleDreamer
@HaoleDreamer 7 жыл бұрын
The lurching was caused by a bad connection between the battery box and the sled. At first I crimped the connector pins a little to make the contacts sit better. After a while the metal was just too soft, so now I put place little pieces of copper wire in the female-specific side of the pins. The correct solution is to replace the connector, but I don't want to spend a dime on the scooter if I don't have to. Just making the connection sit better is all it takes though. The other connection between the rear and the sled can also become loose. When it does the scooter simply doesn't start (it just beeps). When this happens I just remove and connect the back a few times until it begins to work. This is typically only an issue when I take the scooter fully apart.

Paula Hare The scooter is very reliable. Sheri uses her scooter 3 times a day. We pack it in the car 2 times a week (dismantle it). She does everything from grocery shop to taking scoots through the park(s). It's an extremely well used scooter. It has been thrown by baggage handlers, fallen over, dropped, driven through the rain and snow, and may other things. That said, doing quick math: You've used your scooter ~470 times in 3 years. Sheri probably reached ~500 uses of her scooter within the first 6 months. At 6 months - the GoGo had no issues at all. Sheri has owned this scooter for 6 years, meaning it's probably been used ~6000 times. If Sheri goes an average of 1 mile each time she uses the scooter - she has effectively gone across the United States and back on it. It's a really well-used scooter. We'd buy another one in a heartbeat, and now that I know the issues it has - the issues are very manageable.

Hi can you explain why my new battery's only last 1 hour when supposed to get me 10 miles please
@marc.newman
@marc.newman 4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, I can... but first: You're comparing miles to hours. If we're going to talk about the amount of work a battery can do, we need to stick to one unit of measurement. "How many hours can you expect?" is different from, "How many miles can you expect?" Each is a variable and each can be optimized to get the most out of your battery. Your expected range has everything to do with these factors; weight, model scooter, speed, battery type(s), route incline/decline. You will aways get different results than someone else with the same scooter. It really depends on what you're asking the battery to do. Driving on a flat surface at top speed, most scooters will drive for 1.5 to 2 hours (a few will go for 3 hours). So, if your scooter is is dying after a 1 hour of constant use, the question is if you are putting extra load on it? Is the train uphill, Are you carrying a lot of weight? It could reasonable that an hour of use, in those conditions, is perfectly reasonable. If not... then: I have found that new batteries are horrible. I have had a 50% hit rate with batteries. I have bought batteries from stores which died quickly or didn't take a charge completely. Batteries often sit on the shelf in a warehouse for years, and they are bad by the time you get them. I've given up trying to buy discount batteries. I've had the worst experience with them. Finally, the charger is also part of the system. It's possible that your battery isn't getting charged fully. If the charger has a fault in it (typically, the cable or connector), it can keep the battery from getting charged fully. I have several chargers, and swap between them to verify if the charger is the issue, or the battery. There are other reasons you may not be getting the performance you expect, but these are the most likely reasons.
