At the dentist part I was hoping it would be an actually funny scene where you see a closeup of the witch-doctor's face, then it zooms out and you see he has scrubs on and it's a proper dentists office.

I would like to note that the original books this was based on were _nothing_ like that. They actually started as a series of stories on a popular children’s magazine back in 1951, then turned into a book series that spanned several decades (1957-2014), not just one book. It was about a talking monkey, the eponymous Kofiko (from קוֹף _kof_ ‘monkey’ in Hebrew, plus _-iko_ which is the Ladino equivalent of Spanish _-ito_ even though the author was Ashkenazi) from some exotic island that somehow found its way to an average middle class family in Petakh Tikva (a city adjacent to Tel-Aviv), based on the author’s early life, and it chronicles his various shenanigans in various situations (basically every bit of mischief that was too embarrassing to attribute to an actual child). It was a classic here in Israel, it was adapted to a popular TV series in the 1990s and then got a revival in 2009 that lasted three seasons. Kofiko’s cousin Chipopo got his own book series as well, but it focused more on his works as a detective travelling the world and helping children in need. The author, Tamar Bornstein-Lazar, passed away just two days ago, at the age of 93, in the same neighbourhood she grew up in. People everywhere in the country are mourning her now.
